I have only posted three times on this thread. I tried to avoid posting anything other than light remarks. I checked this morning to see what I missed yesterday afternoon and overnight. Something that was written by another poster here (I think carries) made me feel that I needed to post something.
My DDs play soccer. At the end of the season party last May, my youngest DD's coach threw a party for the players and their families. The kids were able to eat and then swim. During the time that the kids were swimming the parents were able to talk and visit with each other and the coach. During this visiting time we got into a fairly deep conversation with the coach. When he found out that DH and I were Christians, (We didn't force feed him our faith. We didn't witness to him. I am sure that we just casually mentioned God in our conversation.) he told us a story about his life. He told us that about 6 years ago his DW and he were in separation and he had moved out of his house. He was missing his wife and kids. He was feeling alone in the world. (He wasn't in rehab, prison, recovering alcoholic or drug addict.) He said that he went to a fast food restaurant drive through one day and a dollar bill that he was handed as change caught his eye. Someone had written "Jesus loves you" on the dollar bill. He said at that moment God got his attention. He knew that God was reaching out to him to let him know that he was not alone. He said that he felt that was the turning point in his life. He ended up going to a local church (Christian Bible-believing) and learned more about Jesus. I will not go on except to say that God did a marvelous work in this guy's life. He is now a Christian and working with kids. He and his wife reconciled. He has his family back. He is telling others what God did in his life. As a matter of fact, he kept that dollar bill to remind him of what God has done. He pulled it out of his wallet and showed us!
So I say all of that to make a point that we never know who needs that message. This coach needed it. His life was changed for the better. I believe that is what the skywriter is doing. He is trying to help that one.
It also reminds me of another story:
The Starfish Story
There was a man who lived along the ocean. One morning, at about 5:00 a.m. when he could sleep no longer, he decided to take a walk along the beach. It was a foggy morning, and the first rays of sunlight were slipping above the horizon. The man enjoyed the walk. It was as if the beach belonged to him. He glanced down on the beach and saw a figure that seemed to be dancing. He wondered why anyone would be on the beach so early; his curiosity caused him to quicken his pace. As he drew nearer, he realized that the figure was that of a young man, and he wasnt dancing he was throwing something into the water. As he drew very close, he realized that the young man was picking starfish off the beach and was tossing them back into the water.
Why are you throwing starfish into the water?
The tide is going out, the sun is rising, and the starfish that are left on the beach will surely die, said the young man, continuing on his task.
But thats such a waste of time and energy! There are so many starfish, and there are miles and miles of beach. What difference does it make?
The young man thought for a moment. He reached down to pick up a starfish and said, It makes a difference
.to this one."
Sure, you may not believe it, you may not need it. However, someone else may.
