What's with the Jesus skywriting?

Protestant religions generally don't believe in such outlandish things (next thing you know, people will believe a lump of pasta is almighty), and several even encourage free thinking and questioning of the bible.

Every church I've belonged to (all Southern Baptist) took those stories literally.

I think most evangelical christians do take the story of Adam and Eve literally (as well as Jonah and the fish, parting of the Red Sea, etc), I don't believe catholics take it literally and I'm not sure about non evangelical protestants.

I take the story of Adam and Eve literally, and the parting of the Red Sea, but I don't take the "7 days" literally, and I'm not too sure about Jonas. I am an evangelical protestant, but I go to a non-denominational church which is composed of people from varying backgrounds who may not all agree on what is literal and what is not, but we do agree that every story has some deeper meaning that we are to take from it. In the end, it really doesn't matter if the whale was real. I also was raised Catholic, so I'm sure the basis of a lot of my beliefs has a Catholic tinge to it. I learned evolution in Catholic school biology class, and that the 7 days wasn't literal in religion class, and those two theories do fit together nicely and to me make sense.

I'm sure you know that plenty of religious folks believe that AIDS is god punishing gays. (Apparently god only dislikes gay men. Gay women are less likely to get AIDS than straight women...) I'm glad that you don't feel that way.

You're preaching to the choir here.. I've been told more than once that I was being punished for something..
Why do virus exist? That's a scientific question . I'm not good at science. Hhistory is my thing. They are just there , like all living organisms..They need to stay alive and reproduce just like humans..They evolve like all other living things. They don't exist to harm,that's just a by product. One could say we humans are a virus and destroying the planet in the process

I don't know if I think it was a literal 7 days either, although that is my church's opinion.

The bible says a day with God is like a thousand years so I can see his days being longer than our 24 hours. I just don't know the answer to that one.

Only if you feel the bible/tanakh is to be taken literally..If you view it in a cultural and historical context as mans attempt to understand G-d and the world around them then it's not so hard.

Both of those things fit in with my beliefs. I don't see embarrassment in my future. (At least not about that. )

I think all texts are null and void. that's where religion goes out the window for me. the ten commandments are up for question in my world. I'm pro-choice and all for capital punishment, but believe not murdering is a good thing. not stealing is good, everyone covets.

I'm still not sure if I'm athiest, agnostic, or what does it really matter. organized religion is going to be the eventual end to our time on this planet.

You said you fear God. I am just trying to figure out how you can love someone you fear. It sounds like an abusive relationship.

Like Aidensmom said, doesn't change my beliefs. It is possible the garden is an allegory of man just turning away from God at one point throughout our history. Or it did happen, and God did it REALLY REALLY slow because he felt like it. Or Satan changed the fossil record and all that fun stuff. (only the first two are holding water for me right now)
