2025 CFB Champs & Bowls

Conference Champ should be automatic.
And then Miami obviously deserved their spot.

And if your conference wins this year, well, for next year, the SEC always used to claim that meant they needed extra spots b/c they were the best, so why shouldn't the ACC do the same?

After this year, I would. I'd never let folks forget my conference's team made it to the last 2, whether or not they eventually win. And they took down every titan doing it...
In my opinion… the conference champ should be an AUTOMATIC BID for play… both big 5 and power of 5. There should never be a situation like ACC Champ 2025 where even though Duke won, they still couldn’t go to the CFP. The conference champs should be a play in for those 10 conferences… and then should they go to 16 teams in the future there could be a wild card of the top teams not in conference championship games based off AP rankings of the week.

Conference Champ should be automatic.
The top 5 ranked conference champs are automatic. They just never thought we'd get a scenario where the ACC champ would be so bad they wouldn't be one of them. Maybe the ACC should reform its rules such that you don't have something like that happen again where their obvious best two teams aren't playing for their title. Miami plays Virginia in that game the winner would have had no problem getting in.

Because one team winning one year doesn't mean you have a deep conference.

I've never bought into the my conference stuff. To use an ACC example. Why should Wake Forest or NC St. give a rat's hind quarters what Miami does? It's not like it makes them any better.

I’ve never understood conference-related bragging. Conferences are typically where your school’s rivals are, and I was more than happy to see Texas wallop my school’s rivals last week. Not gonna see me chanting “B1G” unironically.

But I fully get the SEC ribbing right now. SEC is really the only conference that insists on its own superiority, to the point of making “it means more” into a slogan. Hence every other conference’s fans getting in on the mocking.

Guess Oregon shouldn't have been in the CFB either. I mean, if Alabama's credentials were questioned after losing by 32, what does this game say?

Miami Hurricanes: takes notes from Peach Bowl
I’m sure they did: I also have read week after week every team that IU dominates “shouldn’t have been there” was “overrated” blah, blah blah. We will see in just over a week…

Now, I’m heading to Bloomington in a few hours to watch some IU basketball where there is a decent chance we will get pounded by Nebraska on our home court.

If you would have told an IU fan 2 years ago that we could be a “football school” we would have said you might need a head CT.

While I'm rooting for IU, one season does not make a "football school", no matter how outstanding.
I’m also a Hoosier. I grew up going to the football and basketball games. When my parents moved full time to Florida, they gave up their football tickets but not their basketball tickets. That did not seem crazy 10 years ago. I use their basketball tickets much more than they do. Now, people don’t even know when basketball games are happening but everyone is talking about football. So, if you live in Indiana, IU IS being called a football school. It’s crazy!

I grew up in Indiana. I would have gone to IU but I wanted a smaller campus and to go a little further. I moved to Central Kentucky. UK (although I didn't attend and will root for any opponent of theirs) is a "basketball school". About 6-7 years ago the football gods blessed them with repeated winning seasons, multiple bowls wins, etc. Kentucky basketball was going through a slump. Fans talked about Kentucky being a "football school". Sure enough, after about 3-4 years of above average results, they're back in the dumpster.
If IU keeps up winning season (and I'm talking 9+ wins a season) for 4-5 years, then they can be called a "football" school.

I'm sure Hoosier fans won't want to acknowledge it, but a single successful year, no matter how outstanding, CAN be a "fluke".
