What's too young?

I took my daughter to walmart on the way home from the hospital. We were also out every day for her blood tests or other errands. my mom babysat her when she was less than a week old when I did "Grease". She was 8 weeks old when the show openned. She would either come with me, stay with daddy or stay with my parents. Heck my parents still have her overnight at least 2 nights a month. Its great! Its nice to know that i can leave her overnight and she is comfortable enough to sleep there without a problem ( unlike my mil's)

My wife had our baby induced so we could hit a 72 hour sale on the way home from the hospital. We really needed a new bed spread.

My dd was born on a Saturday morning. She was at the mall the following Friday night, lol. Then I took her to church on Sunday. It was in January too. I was young and inexperienced, I'd probably stay home longer if it were now. Of course if it were now I wouldn't feel like shopping six days later either, lol.

My oldest went to his first horseshow at age 3 days - it was only for an hour at most.

This reminded me... my oldest went to her first NHL game at 3 weeks of age. She attended games regularly from then on, and still loves them.

I had a c-section and was in the hospital for 5 days. So, technically she went out on the 5th day b/c we had to stop at the store so I could buy granny panties :rotfl: She went to church with my mom a couple of days later (without me!).

We had both our kids out in the boat the day after they each came home from the hospital. And had the usually group of BIL and 3 of his friends staying in our apartment 2 nights later with my only concern being no one sleeping in the rocker at night. Nothing like having to breastfeed at 2 am after stepping over a sleeping 19 year old.

But on the other hand my BIL & SIL had their baby in May and she read in a book that the baby shouldn't go out until after his first checkup. So she literally would not let him even go outside the house. Not even to sit on the deck!! But the day they came home from the hospital she had a friend & her husband and their 3 young kids come stay at their house for the weekend. And for the kicker......SIL later found out BIL had had an affair with that very friend. I feel so sorry for that baby!! Today he's sooooooooo fat. He literally has rolls of fat because everytime he starts to fuss they feed him. She must have missed the chapter that discussed talking to and playing with the baby.

Pretty much as soon as they came home from the hospital we were out and about. I wasn't much for sitting around the house. DD #1 was born July 2, so on the way home from the hospital on the 4th we stopped by my DH's grandparents where they were having a cook out, we ate, everyone saw and help the baby, then we went home. She also had to go to the hospital everyday for blood tests, jaudiced baby, so we were out all the time, she was at the airport at 3 days old picking up her aunt and uncle, she went to the place I worked the same day, malls by 1 week. The other 2 dd's were born in December and February, so it was almost 1 week before we headed out to the malls, mainly because I hate the cold and didn't want to go out.

Mine were out at the mall and or grocery store at 3-4 days. Especailly with the last one I was on my own with 3 kids and had some errands I had to do. They all got their pictures done with in the first week (hate the hospitals) so there for that too.

I slinged my girls and no one touched them including the photographer. ;) I am a grem freak too but life does go on and no one at home to baby me and the kids. Dh only had a week off with the first 2 and a few days off with Ashley.

I had a c-section too but I had an easy recovery so we took dd out in public at 5 days old. She had a touch of jaundice at birth so we really didn't have a choice since we had to take her back to the hospital for a checkup then. But afterwards we went w/dh while he got his hair cut and then we did some grocery shopping. I wouldn't have been comfortable taking her to a restaurant that young though but that's just me. What others do with their baby is fine as long as they don't endanger them.

And I haven't read any of the replies so I am sorry if this has already been said but I always cringe when I read about others judging new parents. In the OP's case she knew the baby was only 4 days old but there are so many people that see tiny babies and just assume they are only a few days old when they may actually be several months old and were just born prematurely. Besides as long as the baby is healthy and the mom isn't putting it in any real danger then I don't think it is anyone else's business anyway.

Holy cow--you were in a show at 8 weeks postpartum...

:worship:

IOW--that's AWESOME!

DS Now (14) was out at about 4 days old for passport photo and his first Transatlantic flight at 2 weeks

Shelby was about a week old when we first took her out, and that was just for a trip to my parents house. I wouldn;t have taken her to a restaurant or anything like that, infact we still haven't been anywhere other than the mall and Costco! :)

My DS was at my office's Christmas party at 2 days old. We only stopped in for a few minutes, but I had promised my coworkers I would bring in their favorite cookies that I make no matter what.
I also had him at the mall seeing Santa when he was under a week old(he was born 12/18). He did fine. :)
