Whats the scoop on the DVC snakes we see?

i only know of one country that does not have snakes. that is new zealand.

wdw is a man made world of beauty and wonder and excitment, but as long as it is not inclosed in plastic wrap the snakes as well as other living things will be there.

if you look just as closely at home where you live when not as wdw you will see them there too.

We saw 2 snakes in 2003. One was on a miniature golf course and the other fell from a tree. We were waiting to catch the boat from Hollywood Studios back to Boardwalk. We heard something in the tree and tourned expecting to see a bird or squirrel and a big black snake fell to the ground.

aren't those big black snakes the most marvelous creatures? they are beautiful and so helpfull. i have a lot of them on my property and they keep the poison snakes away.

I've had the unfortunate pleasure being one of those "intercepting" humans. It was back in my younger years while I was in the Army. We were conducting a night partol (training) and were getting close to our objective when low and behold a bat flies right into my chest then darts straight up. It then manages to wedge itself between my head and my helmet. I can verify both of us were freakin out at that point and I am sure it was a site watching me flopping around like a crazy man.

This story still brings my wife to tears

I never knew that the biggest weakness in our national defense was a bat. Shhhh... don't tell Wolf Blitzer... he'll alert the enemy.

that fossel was amazing! i really would be frightened if i came across a live one of those on my property. that was a dinasour of a snake.

I can honestly say I never saw any snakes or gators at Disney BUT one night coming out of DRULING PIONAS I seed dis big PINK object on the boardwalk trying to fly across the lake and this loooong necked creature jumped up from the water and grab this pink thing and it exploded
I guess it was just an elephant and nessie was hungry. Man did I need a drink after that

Since DW and I spend a lot of our WDW time on the golf courses, we have seen a lot of wild life over the years. A few years ago we were teeing off on the 7th at Osprey Ridge when a rather smallish gator walked across the fairway in front of us to get to the pond on the left. We had seen gators before on the courses, but this was the first one that was actually out of the water. We've also seen some snakes on the golf courses, but the most memorable wild life we saw was on the old Eagle Pines course. We ran across three bobcats on one of the fairways on the back 9. The cart lady said they knew they were out there but sightings were very rare!

Then of course there was the very aggressive racoon who followed us on the 10th and 11th hole of the Palm trying to get our lunches off of the cart.

Sorry but snakes are great climbers, personally I think snakes are great I can sit and watch one for as long as it lets me. Plus they eat rodents ...

...and word on the street, WDW is home to the world's greatest mouse!

i have seen a lot of little (and sometimes big) wild mouse looking creatures lurking around wdw for the last few years. i never heard of one hurting anyone. in fact they seem down right friendly! there is a really cute one in a hole in a log in the vwl lobby, you can see it if you sit in the chairs by the fire place and look up at the logs. he is really great. of course, that big one that you see in the parks is my friend. and yours too i bet.

if you see a big snake in the mk or other park, he is just looking for his grandmother. i know he is looking around remembering the swamp where his grandmother lived.

I had to take up golf to finally see a gator in Florida! There were three on the Magnolia course: two smallish females and one large male. A course ranger was parked by the ponds to keep an eye on them and the golfers. I also saw a fairly large turtle on the Magnolia. My ball landed about a foot from it. It was very hard to make my shot because the turtle would move every time I made a practice swing and finally just sat there looking at me. Finally, I decided "To heck with it- I'm not a good golfer any way," and just hit it enough to clear a creek and get away from the turtle. It amused the rest of our party to no end!

One of the oddest animals I saw at WDW was a white frog that had stuck itself to an outdoor light at SSR. I took a picture, but I don't have it at the office. I just did a little research and learned that it was probably a Cuban Tree Frog, and reading about what those do makes me wish I could go back in time and squish it.

We live where gators are common. I'd love to know how to tell males from females.

In the first about 20 years of going to WDW I saw 2 snakes. one at the now defunct River Country, 1 at Typhoon Lagoon. However, at BCV in the last couple years, I've seen about 4, including one at the bus stop that was waiting to "greet" us as we got off the bus. The lady in front of us screamed and let out with some very un-Disney-like language (before she clapped her hand over her mouth in embarrassment at what had come out of her mouth). The CM standing nearby came over, picked up the snake and tossed him in the bushes. Although it was dark, I could almost see the CM rolling his eyes at the panicky tourists! I hate snakes.

Easiest way imaginable- the ranger told me. Of course, he could have been making it up, in the manner of MK boat crews discussing plans for BLT pre-sales announcement.

I was just reading a thread about 2 renters, Dani & Stacey who had problems last year. You mentioned you could email or PM info.
I am currently in the process of renting from someone who I am afraid may be the same person.
I am brand new to the board so I don't have rights yet.

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy.

It's actually quite simple, but you have to understand that alligator sex organs are all internal.

1. First, you select an alligator. Any alligator will do, but if you do this with a baby alligator, you're going to need tweezers. The larger the alligator, the sportier the exercise. Any alligator over ten feet earns style points.
2. Turn the alligator on its back.
3. Between its back legs, you will see a slit.
4. Stick you hand into the slit.
5. If you feel something, it's a boy alligator.
6. If you don't feel anything, it's a girl.

One caution -- alligators tend to object to this procedure.

So you might want to leave it for folks who sex alligators for a living. And yes...we do have such folks.

ON our last trip (August) to OKW we had a small 6 inch black snake in one of the bathrooms (2 br). The cast member who came to remove the snake brought a cloth sack and a long rod with a loop of wire at the end. He picked up the snske with the sack and said that it was a harmless common water snake and that he would set it free somewhere outside, it is pretty common. I do not believe that Disney would in any way harm or eliminate any animal on it's property, nor would I ask that it be done. They did however fix the door to the villa so there could not be a recurrance of the visit.

Snakes are a phobia.. I freak out.. and I would haven't been able to stay in that room..
