What's the point of a Birthday Button?

My son was surprised with a piece of birthday cake and they sang happy birthday to him at Mama Melrose. Not planned by us.

Some of my best times at Disney World was wearing my birthday button. Yes, by the end of the day you don't want to hear "Happy Birthday" anymore but it sure made me feel special. I got a few cupcakes or cookies from restaurants we visited.

But my favorite memory is from before they started magic bands. I was wearing a birthday pin and I was trying to get a fast pass ticket to Splash Mountain but it wasn't able to get a fast pass yet because it wasn't past the time frame. A CM saw me about to walk away and came up to me and handed me a fast pass that was good for my whole family and I could use it whenever and just smiled and wished me a happy birthday. I can't tell you how happy and special it made me feel. It's the little things.

I recommend anyone to wear it! It made my time even more amazing.

When I wore my birthday button at Epcot I felt like every CM wished me happy birthday, it caught me off guard lol Also when I was entering the American Adventure an older CM stopped me and told me I had a phone call when I picked up the phone it was Mickey and his friends calling to wish me a happy birthday.

I have been there for my birthday as well as my husband's once and both times we got lots of well wishes, free desserts, and a CM in frontierland pulled me up on the porch of one of the restaurants and yelled out to all of Frontierland that it was my birthday and made everyone stop and sing! It was so sweet and something I'll remember forever. When we went on our (dating) anniversary one year before we were married we got free cupcakes at a QS place. Sometimes if they see you're celebrating they'll give you front row on a ride or something too. On my birthday when I went to get my button they also called me over and played a message from Goofy on the phone. This was all for a 23 year old so they definitely don't do it just for kids either. I think a lot of it depends on the CM you get and on your attitude too. When we went to DLR for our honeymoon we got a few free desserts and a photopass photographer took some special time with us, we got a few signed pictures from Mickey and the gang at our hotel (Paradise Pier- nicest front desk staff EVER!) and at our Oswald meet and greet he made the biggest deal over us! It always surprises me when people say nothing was done for them because we always seem to have had such good luck! o_O

We always wear our buttons, it just makes the day more special. Lots of CM and other guest saying Happy birthday, Happy anniversary, or Congrat's.

Its also sort of an ice breaker, if you are doing family style seating like in Germany, or sharing a table at a quick serve or picnic table at one of the water parks and of course waiting in line which you do a lot of.

We have gotten a few cupcakes and other desserts at TS restaurants, some cards with the Fab 5 and other character signature, a CM sang happy birthday to my mom outside of Soarin, and the crowd watching joined in, it was her 70th birthday, so added pixie dust...

Its fun wearing your button, it makes you feel special.. on your special day, really that's what its all about..

Lots of Happy Birthdays from CMs and guests.

Things my DD has received when wearing hers....we've been for her birthday in July a few times and these are spread over many years...

Free parking at Epcot (attendent saw her button)
free soda at cart
free dessert at a meal
a bag of 'pixie dust' from a server at a meal

My DS got a signed birthday card from Mickey and the gang. Mickey also left my son a message on our room phone. This was 2 year ago and DS was 4, but he figured out how to play the message on our phone, and as soon as we would return to the room, he would go racing over to the phone and play it. Played it every time we came into the room and first thing in the morning when we woke up. LOL.

We have occasionally gotten free cupcakes for B-day celebrations. Lot's of B-day wishes from CM's.

The new buttons are really nice! ...but , if you're not into that kind of thing...skip it! No pressure.

I had the best time wearing my birthday button at Disneyland in 2013. CMs and other guests wished me the best and it was fun! Even the CM high up in a booth at IASM there could read it and shout down "happy birthday, Marion!"

I've gotten a few special phone calls both to my room and one in a line at a QS lol

Lots of Birthday wishes and a few desserts.

However I tend to feel weird with strangers calling out to me so I don't wear them often.

One morning a set of twins who looked around 5 or 6 years old got on our bus at Pop, and the bus driver announced "today is (name) and (name)'s birthday, and he started singing happy birthday and the entire bus sang along.
