What's the latest you've changed rooms for a reservation?

Wondering how close to their reservation people have changed rooms...perhaps even in the middle of a split stay?

Never mid trip but I’d say a week or so ahead time once.

Most of the time, by the time I am that close, I have the resort I want…which 99% of the time is RiV or VGF!

I switched to a BWV Boardwalk View about 10 days from our stay. It was still during COVID times though so availability changed much more than it does today.

Changed the front end of a split stay like 4 days out from a stay during a hurricane so we didn't have to move resorts on the day the hurricane was supposed to hit Orlando.

I have changed my reservation mid trip. I was traveling solo a couple of years ago. My initial reservations were 3 nts BLT, 2 nts BCV, 3 nts BWV pool/garden, 3 nts BWV Boardwalk view. While I was sitting on my balcony at BLT, I was checking availability and 3 nts at PVB popped up for the exact 3 nts I had at the pool/garden view at BWV. I modified my reservation right then, and I’m so glad I did! I had never stayed at the Poly before. I had a great time trying out studios at different properties.

I think it was like 10 days or so this last trip. I was still looking to change day before we left!

When the PP mentioned traveling solo, it reminded me that I changed rooms, but in the same hotel once with no notice. It was way back in 2001, when AKL was new and I'd gotten a deeply discounted rate to stay there for 2 nights. The first night I was on the fifth floor on the Sunset Savannah. The next morning I decided to see if I could try a room on a lower floor, different savannah, just to try out the hotel from different areas. It wasn't long after 9/11, so tourism was down and rooms were available in this brand new hotel, so I spent the second night on the second floor, Arusha Savannah. Didn't leave the hotel for those 2 days.

I'm assuming these are the exact type of circumstances that would allow a mid trip change like that...split stays with short durations...then a room opening up that is more desirable at a different resort for the exact same days...and the points are more since you wouldn't want to abandon any points...although maybe at that point who cares if the room you're getting is something better than what you currently have.

Availability starts to disappear about 3 days out I believe and you need to call. Did you experience that or am I misremembering as its been a while since I worried about it that close.

A few years ago (pre-COVID) we upgraded a spilt stay and switched resorts while we were in the EPCOT member's lounge. They had MS staff at the desk at the time and helped us make the change. It was for more points so we went with it. Definitely wouldn't do it if it would put points in holding.

This would be awesome lol. Staying Poly for part of our stay next month and of course as a 7 monther only longhouses available to book. Would LOVE to try the tower and still hoping rooms just magically appear as we're getting closer to check in. Our family actually loves the longhouses and I bet if we tried the tower studios we'd still prefer the longhouses but you know how that works...
