the turkey legs???? I always see everyone walking around eating them like barbarians...lol..are they any good????? Maybe I'll have to try one next time.

I've never had one. I think they smell positively wonderful whenever I pass the carts where they sell them but I haven't ever taken the plunge and bought one. I don't like turkey all that much but I'll probably get one eventually just because the smell will keep driving me nuts until I actually have one.

They smell better then they taste! They are VERY VERY HOT. However in WDW during the rare cold days....they are GREAT!

My friend doesn't consider it a trip to WDW until he finds the cart selling them!

:earsboy:

They are yummy and my wife and I will make it a point to have 1 while we are down there. However, for me, it is too much work and too messy for a serious meal. Yummy and quite a bit of meat, but messy. We had a bird watching us very closely at AK while we ate the leg.

personally I love turkey but these were just ok...not bad, just not that great.

I agree that they smell better than they tatse... however with that said I will also add the I am addicted to them as well. I can't stand to watch other people eat them as it does look barbaric as you stated, but I am not afraid to tear into one of my own :) Try one next time :)

We are glad we tried one, but wouldn't buy one again. The outer skin was too hard to bite through and to me the meat tasted like ham.

After finally trying a turkey leg, my DD's insist that we get one every trip. They are messy, but sure are yummy! ::yes::

and this is the #1 reason while I'll never eat one.

I like turkey and all...but I don't like eating anything that I have to pull off a bone...grosses me out personally...

sorry, but IMO, barbaric is a perfect word to describe them

I thinkit tastes like ham, It must be the smoking that makes it taste that way to me.

Stinkerbelle....I wonder if this is the way "Shrek" would taste???

Love the pic in your post...Showed it DH and he loved it too...Very cute dog.

We also hear that they were emu legs...Does anyone know for sure? We are trying one on our next trip but we're just curious.

duh...Shrek tastes like onions! (layers? heheh) Dogger has a dopey look on her face in that pic...she usually photographs better!

I don't think they are emu legs...i just watched the WDW Unwrapped on Food Channel last night but wasn't paying attention during the 'turkey leg' segment...I'll see if my Tivo recorded it...if not, it's being replayed this weekend I think...I'll check for it!

Never tried on. To much food for a snack. Besides, it's alway to hot to think of eating a hot turkey leg.....

According to last night's Unwrapped show, the turkey legs are real turkey from 40 to 50 pound turkeys raised in the US. They (the legs) are injected with a brine to keep them juicy and slow cooked in a smoker.

The thing is, you see, that they are Smoked Turkey Legs. What that means is that they taste and look like ham. The same pink color inside and honestly after the first bite you would think that it was a small ham instead of a large turkey leg.

That being said they are quite tasty and very filling but difficult to eat and not make a mess. I have had one in the three decades I have been traveling to WDW and that wasn't until my last trip in March. I tried one out of curiosity more than anything else.

I might have another sometime but it isn't on my priority list like Mickey Bars and Dole Floats are.

I've read about turkey legs on these boards for years. Then a few months ago they were featured on a Disney World program on tv, so we tried them on our last trip. Got them at TL for lunch. Yuk, yuk, yuk! Hard, greasy skin, and both filled with sinew. At least we can say we tried them, but never again.
