What's open 24 hours?

the adult district is open until 2 AM. I think it is. So that's late enough for most people probably.

but i would really like a cafe or buffet open all night. What can i say - i like to sit over coffee and a snack at all hours. Probably weird, but it enhances the experience.

i have an idea - open the kids clubs to adults in the middle of the night - so we can play with the floor.

As a fellow night owl, I don't think that's wierd.

I'm not an experienced cruiser at all. We've done a 3-night on the Wonder 11 years ago (pre-kids) and a 7-night on RCCL's Freedom of the Seas in Aug 2009 (it was the Nickelodeon Family Cruise). On that cruise, after the kids and DW (not a night owl) went to sleep, I would hit the casino for a while. When I was done there, I would go up to the Promenade where the pizzeria is open 'til 3am and the cafe is open 24/7. I would get a little snack and a coffe and take a walk around the top deck before heading back to the room. Obviously, I can't do that on our upcoming cruise on the Dream. Oh well...

I would also love something open 24 hours but for the opposite reason of most. I'm an early riser (usubally 5am) and having to wait for 7 for some of the venues to open up is not ideal. Can't order room service as my husband is the late sleeper in our cabin.

I delivered my FE gifts in the wee hours of the morning.

I've also delivered my FE's in the middle of the night - very peaceful and I don't worry about anyone taking them during the day.

Hubby and I are both night owls and we love to either sit on our veranda and watch the water or we go up on deck and just relax on one of the pool chairs. We'll order room service and have a late night snack. Sometimes the "quiet" is SO enjoyable!

The beverage station is open 24-hours. You can have a beverage and sit on deck....very pretty at night.

Thanks TinkBell. That's useful info for me. DH and I are night owls. And pretty late into the night we usually have a small snack with our pills; we hate that feeling of having them stuck in your throat.

I will be bringing snacks on to the ship, but since Disney provides drinks, I'm not going to haul drinks on with me. So, when I realize at 1:00 in the morning that I need a drink, now I'll know I don't have to call room service. :thumbsup2

Awesome. :)

and you shouldn't call room service for soft drinks - it will cost you money if you do. Room service food is free, but the soft drinks cost money. But the beverage station is free.
For a pill, you could just drink tap water from your bathroom. It's potable water.

But it's not nearly as yummy as sugar and chemical filled goodness. :drinking:

And thank you for letting me know room service drinks are not free. I did not know that.
Interesting that the food is free, but not the sodas.
But that's cool since the beverage station is always open. :thumbsup2

Can't wait! :sail:

There is generally a nighttime adult event going until about 2am. Once that breaks up, the ship is eerily empty. I used that time to walk around and take pictures of the ship with no one in them. It was also a beautiful time to be out on the deck or sit on the verandah --- with a drink from the beverage station. :goodvibes

seriously? you think a beverage station is the same as a cafe/buffet?

for that matter they can order room service and take the tray out on deck and eat. geez.....

DCL is weak in this area. All the koolaid in the world won't change that fact.
No one ever said it was the same. The OP asked if anything was open and correct information was provided.

no one is up because DCL doesn't have anything available not because no one wants it.
If DCL builds it, we will come. other cruise lines have 24 hour eating venues and people are there at all hours of the night. The same would be true on the disney ships if something was open.
My understanding from staff is that there is the belief that there isn't a high enough demand.

I delivered my FE gifts in the wee hours of the morning.
Haha! You and I both. I was walking around at 2am certain that an officer was going to question me at some point about what I was doing. "While you were sleeping - DCL style" :lmao:

most of the food from room service is free.
but i think they also include on the menu snack trays that cost money - i think.
i can't remember. like nuts and candy. in any case, that sort of thing also costs money. They also sell that by the movie theater. So some people bring candy on board with them.

but they have very yummy cookies from room service that are free. Those big cookies. In fact, you shouldn't miss out on that. If nothing else, order some of those cookies from room service. Remember that even though the food is free, you should tip the person who brings the food a dollar or two.
it's good to bring a bunch of single dollars with you for that purpose.

Being a teen....we always stay up till 3-5 am.

We usually order room service in the hallway, then we take it up to the top deck to eat it, then we aren't bothering anyone in the hallway, and go up to get our drinks from the drink station. In the past we have brought games/cards to play. Another thing we love doing is going out to the top deck at night, it is windy but often times you can see lights in the distance, or other smaller ships/islands.

Other than that.....not tooo much is available. :confused3

On the longer cruises they will do this. I remember on the transatlantic they had late night flubber making. But this was also a cruise with a large proportion of adults vs children.

Try the cake of the day also.

there is always demand for good food. At any time of day or night.
While we agree with this, there just might not be enough demand as even the late night dessert buffet that they used to have has been canceled as far as I know. We would go sometimes and it would be packed, and then other times we would go and it would be dead so all the food went to waste.

wow, i am new to the board but that was a little harsh. I think they were just answering the question of the thread. take a deep breath

on princess they have a regular buffet open 24 hours, not a dessert buffet.
I'd rather have a regular buffet open round the clock than a midnight dessert buffet.

As mom used to say when I tried to extend my curfew in high school "nothing good happens after midnight";)

After the clubs close down it's pretty much dead all over the ship. We are night owls too (even our kids - even when they were little). We'd walk the decks and admire the little Disney touches, or enjoy the upper decks free of people.

Our favorite pasttime was playing Ping Pong, but I thought I'd heard they took those away. Guess they were sick of leaving a trail of ping pong balls for the dolphins to play with.

I think it's an incorrect assumption that "most" cruisers are families with young kids. There are plenty of adults without kids or adults with older kids cruising on DCL. We've all been Disney fans for a long time and not all of us "grow out of Disney" when our kids grow out of the Princess phase.

As far back as 2003 there was no late night entertainment so if they tried it and no one was interested before then, it's been a decade maybe they need to try again.

DCL could rope off a small area of Topsiders/BBB/Cabanas or Cove Cafe and have some food available late at night.
But the downside would be that there would have to be a reduction of CM's from some other area during the morning/day/evening to staff it (cook fresh pizza, serve it, clean up etc)

If enough people request it, they might trial it on one of the ships, and if enough people utilized it then roll it out on the other ships.

Ex Techie :)

Edit to add:

Again if enough people request it they might trial it.
There would be a noise curfew for music on the Classic's as there are enough noise complaints from RBD/Wavebands as it is! lol!

There are many drinks that you can order at no cost from room service; juices, coffee, tea, lemonade, milk, chocolate milk.
On the room service menu it will be listed if there is a charge for an item, basically it's the packaged goods such as canned sodas, candy.
