What's on the DDP for those who can't eat sugar?

We have never done DDP before so all this is a little overwhelming. I have reactive hypoglycemia so sugar is an absolute no-no for me. As far as desserts go, is fruit an option? It's not a big deal if I don't have dessert - I can't usually eat it anyway - but I was just trying to figure out if there were healthy options for me.

There's sugar free jello.

Seriously, at a table service restaurant you should notify the staff of dietary restrictions. No doubt they will do something for you.

At counter service you might have to get the jello. If they have a fruit cup you might be able to get that on the adult plan, or maybe they'll let you have the kids' jello if you want it.

I hear ya! DH and I don't eat sugar or any type of artificial sweetener, so no dessert for us, ever. I'm not going during free dining, but I wonder if the DDP is worth it for us if we're not going to eat 1/3 of each meal, right? :confused3

LIke the OP, I'm also interesed in knowing if there is fresh fruit available (not fruit cocktail :rotfl: ) or even a cheese selection for dessert. That would make it perfect for me! I have checked the menus at allearsnet but there is nothing suitable listed.

Many of the restaurants do list cheese plates as an alternative and since my husband and I are both diabetic (he's Type 1 insulin controlled, I'm Type 2 diet controlled), we are very careful with sugars. We've never had any problem requesting something and having it made available. They are great at acommodating dietary restrictions. You may want to check out some of the menus listed on wdwig to see what is offered at each place. Good luck and happy eating, :thumbsup2

Many counter service restaurants offer grapes as a choice for children so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get those as your dessert (especially with a brief explanation of "I can't have sugar").

Thanks for your input! I heard that TS restaurants were very accommodating; however, when I looked at the CS menus I didn't see any fruit or healthy choices for dessert. I'd rather have a salad than a slice of cake any day! I guess that makes me a little odd, :upsidedow but sugar just makes me soooo sick!

Grapes. Red grapes, on the stem. When we were on the dining plan we got 2-3 orders of grapes with every CS meal. I was so sick of grapes by the end of that trip.... Unsweetened applesauce is also an option - but no one in our group could stand the applesauce. Applesauce and red grapes are also the only gluten free options.

I think that there are a few CS locations that have a sugar free brownie. Cosmic Ray's at least did last time we were there. They all have grapes though. No explanation needed usually, btw. "And grapes for dessert" is all that we ever needed.

I'm sure the sit down restaurants will accommodate you. Just tell them of your special dietary needs when you make your """reservation""" Most of the parks have at least one vendor that offers fruit for a snack option on the DDP. I believe all of the resorts would offer the same in their quick service restaurants. You can also get popcorn or chips for a snack. Most of the buffet meals have a great fresh fruit selection!
