What's Next? Disney getting stingy with Pixie Dust!

:( That sucks that Disney is cutting back on those things that make celebrating your special occasions there that little bit more magical.

I hope for you all that there are cast members around that still love to spread the pixie dust to those of you who are celebrating Disneymoons, DFTWs, anniversaries and VRs.

I was a College Program CM this past summer and tried to 'pixie dust' every 'Just married' button wearing couple that came my way.

:)

I think there will still be plenty of pisie dust I mean it is the year of celebrations. They will do what they can.

Thank you for your part of the magic!

Re-reading what I wrote, I'm afraid I came off as stingy myself, or as having a sense of self-entitlement. I think I'm just really frustrated, because I've been planning all these extra "special" things...and yeah, the menu was something I was expecting, because it was something offered, not unexpected "pixie dust". I would never expect the little extras that the CMs and Disney are so well-known for at random moments. It's the things that we've come to think as "given", such as the personalized menus at CR, EMH, and things like that, that seem to be getting cut because of the economy that upsets me...even knowing deep inside there is a reason for it.

I'm also stressed because they are allegedly opening dining reservations for May on Dec 22nd, and they STILL haven't posted May hours yet. There are going to be an awful lot of double priority seating reservations made if they don't post those hours before then. :sad2: I tried to "guesstimate" the hours by last year's calendar, but last year they had the Pirate and Princess Party at the MK in May, so I know I can't really rely on that, since there probably won't be a Party in May this year. :confused3 Im in a dither!

You didn't come off like that at all. I can understand why you are frustrasted. I'm upset about the P&PP cause it was so much fun. The econoy blows.

Ok normally the parks close at 9 and 10 in May. I go every May trust me...Tracy am I kind of right?? LOL.

Thanks Lynn! What I really need to know is when/if there are going to be EMH. When Dec 22 comes, I want to know whether to make my PS for before we go to the parks, or afterwards, if they close early. For instance, we want to go to the Yachtsmen on our EPCOT day. If there's no EMH (evening) we are going to go after Illuminations....but if there are evening EMHs, we are going to hit FW in the morning, take a break, go to Yachtsmen for dinner in early evening, and then go to WSC in the evening until midnight.

I appreciate your responses! :goodvibes

I think they cut the divers and menus because too many people were requesting it. I have seen over on the trip boards people getting a diver for their "anniversary" that will be in 6 weeks.
They took the specialness away from it and it became out of control..people were leaving nasty messages and emails for the CR planner because at one point, she was on vacation and not responding. It sounded like she was doing nothing but fielding calls all day for divers and menus

I think divers will still be there to toss pixie dust as a CM selects a honeymoon couple, etc..

Oh no! you didn't come across that way at all - I was just hoping for you that even if you can't get those things which have been so freely available to people in the past, some cast members will go that extra mile to give you something else to enhance your experience.

I'm so sorry if you felt I was criticising your view, it was not my intention at all!

Pardon me for hoping in :)

I was wondering where I could go to view the "Celebrations" options?

I've seen the Disney Florist website, but not seen this one.

Thank you!

If they cut back Fantasmic & Illuminations, this could be difficult in planning a dessert party! Esp if its a last minute change. Could planning get any more confusing. lol.

:guilty: Grrrrrrrr, I'm getting so frustrated! Anyone else see on the Disboard Update menu:

The Coral Reef restaurant at Epcot will not be doing diver signs and personalized menus in 2009

I was so looking forward to suprising my future groom with this little bit of Pixie Dust on our Honeymoon!

Okay, I know that the economy sucks, and cutbacks abound, but please allow me this little rant. First of all, they STILL haven't posted May hours, which I desparatley need (even if I can't make dining reservations yet, which is another story!). Then, they cancelled the Pirate and Princess Party that we were going to enjoy for the first time. Now this!

:sad2: It makes me sad!

Is there going to be any Pixie Dust left in 2009? At this point, I'm afraid when they finely post May hours, that there's not going to be any EMH.

:sad1:

When I thought of the economy affecting my wedding, I thought about my own finances, not Disney's. The Coral Reef is probably my favorite restaurant at Epcot (Rose & Crown is a close second). I was really looking forward to this bit of pixie dust. BAH!!:sad2:

PS - I want the May hours as well!!

Yes, I read earlier this year that they were thinking of quitting the divers in 2009, and then I saw it posted.

I'm sorry you won't get to do it for your DH2B. We went in August for my DH2B's 45th b'day and I got him the divers and menu.

I don't know why they are cutting back when they are raising prices.

I need May hours too! I still can't book my reception lunch. :headache:

I would bet they are cutting back on the pixie dust on stuff like the Diver's because they want you to pay for the "celebrations" now for 2009. :headache: I'm bummed too! Dh and the kids would have loved the diver. I wonder if it will be come a paid option? I might consider paying for it, if it were offered. :confused3

Just to clear up this whole Diver/Menu thing. FYI. That was some unlisted "Dream" for a Year of a Million Dreams. It was solely by word of mouth and you had to know where to call. I scheduled ours in June for our August trip, before Disney was worrying out loud about the economy. I mentioned in my email to Coral Reef's manager that I was excited when I heard about this and couldn't believe it was free. Her response was that it only being offered for the Year of a Million Dreams and at the start of 09, it would be discontinued. From the way she spoke and our waitress the day of, they were getting more calls for it than they had planned. They were also filling up sooner and sooner. So by now, everyone would be askig for it for some reason or another, so it would be hard to accompany that many people even by charging. Would you want your diver holding your sign then pulling another for someone else? I think it would take the Specialness away.
Just to clear that confusion up

. . . couldn't believe it was free. Her response was that it only being offered for the Year of a Million Dreams . . .

1) Actually, it is a good story, but factually incorrect.
2) The divers and signs pre-dated the two "Year of a Million Dreams".
3) They wanted to halt the divers/signs at the start of 2008.
4) Unfortunately, too many complaints at the news.
5) So, they can now cancel with a good excuse.
6) They wanted to cancel in Jan-2008 because
. . . there were so many requests that divers couldn't get regular work done
. . . they ran out of capacity to fill all the requests
. . . people got ugly when they couldn't get a diver sign
. . . they got complaints if something happened to a diver and no signs
. . . it simply took up too much time of hostesses and divers

NOTE: WDW will frequently tell a story when they want to cancel something or lay blame. A good example is that CM's were told to tell guests that they had their rooms keys near phones or magnets or other credit cards when the room key became "demagnetized". it was a good story, but the problem was with the key and the encoders.

They may have offered it prior to the YoaMD, but it was then put under that category. And I was also told by other people months before speaking with the manager. That was why I did it then and not waited for our VR. They may have tried to stop in January, but they kept it up to finish up the YoaMD. Sorry to get you so flaming mad:furious:, but that was what I was told by someone online, the manager and the waitress. So Disney must have made a lie for people all around to tell me. Wow, I was only trying to help, not get my head bit off. :scared1:   :earseek: I will now unsub this thread and put on my :cool2:

I only skimmed this thread but I agree. I know disney can charge whatever they want, but they really will make more money if they lower their prices. Then people can afford to add more things.

A message for the disney faerie. Please lower your prices so we can all spoil ourselves more :)
