I forgot to say we are having Mac n Cheese, baked tilipia and something green. I better go figure that part out the fish is almost done.

I thought you all might be interested in this "long thread" update from Webmaster Alex. This is what he has to say....

The experiment with removing the long threads surprised even us! As you can see the boards are flying and there were no other changes made. Because of that we need to find a way to deal with this issue. We want to see what happens on Monday, which traditionally is our busiest day of the week.
I want to assure everyone that we will be bringing back the posts in those threads, we just need to work out the best way to do that and keep the performance of the boards where it is now.
In the mean time please feel free to start a new thread.
Alex

I thought I would pass this along it came by way of a friend who happens by another long thread I visit the Chicago Disers, also soo not a clique thread.

I have to tell you that I made the chicken from hell with my dad originally-I lost(I know I didn't really lose him-I know exactly where he is..lol) my dad on July 7, 1999-but I still laugh about him "smoking". I know for sure he is on the 19th hole-with my much beloved uncles and cousin-smoking up a storm..lol-I love you Dad

Count me in as another who was too shy to barge in on the last thread though I lurked there often. :) I'm a vegetarian and a foodie though tonight is take out. I love seeing all the pictures and reading the recipes. I'll have something more interesting to report next time!

chicken from hell....
5 lbs boneless chicken breasts(cut into small indecerneble pieces)
2lbs bacon(cut into halves) like 6 inch strips
1/2 a container of creole seasoning(like tony cachere's)
about 10 jalapeno's fresh cut in strips(depending on how much "heat" you can take)

these are addictive-be forwarned..lol

Bacon....Tony Chachere's.....there must be some Southern in there!!!

Here's the Mac n Cheese recipe from the other night. Granted, it's more like a casserole because it has ham, but my blue-box orange cheese eating sons gave it two thumbs up. Guess this'll be a keeper.

Smokin' Macaroni & Cheese (lifted from So. Living mag)

1lb elbow mac (cooked)
2 Tb butter
3 Tb flour
1 cup milk
12 oz can evaporated milk
2 cups (8oz) shredded smoked Gouda
3 oz cream cheese, softened
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground red pepper, divided
8 oz smoked ham, chopped
2 cups cornflakes cereal, crushed (I subbed smaller amount of breadcrumbs)
2 Tb butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350. Melt 2Tb butter in saucepan over med heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk & evap. milk; cook 3-5 minutes (whisking constantly) until thickened. Whisk in Gouda, cream cheese, salt & 1/4tsp red pepper until smooth. Remove from heat & stir in ham. Combine pasta & cheese mixture, and pour into a greased 13 x 9 baking dish. Stir together crushed cereal, melted butter and 1/4 tsp red pepper. Sprinkle over pasta mixture. Bake @ 350 for 30 min until golden & bubbly. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Maybe we will need to investigate other web methods of filing our recipes? :confused3

Welcome! :goodvibes Come back soon!

I am not having a good day at all! After my coffee debacle this morning, I was getting ready to fix cheese grits for dinner tonight. I bumped a whole cup of dried grits with my elbow & knocked it across the whole kitchen!

Actually-I used to use a Paul Prudhomme cajun seasoning-but I can't find it now. The ones I find now have wayyyy too much salt-and I live for salt but they are too much so be gentle. And no-I am not southern by birth, but definitely by taste..lol...Sue

Welcome to the new posters!!!

We wound up having frozen pizza tonight since we did alot of errands together today and went to Friendly's for lunch...boy, do I LOVE that Reeses Pieces Sundae! No wonder I cannot lose weight! :rolleyes1

We put a down payment of a gas insert fire place today!!! It really is nice. We have a wood burning now and felt this was more efficient.

So....we also had to go to the jewelry store in the mall since I knocked my diamond loose in my e ring and I am walking past Glamour Shots photography and look at what was in the window.......it's me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I had to take a pic with my phone to share with my friends.

Happy birthday

:lmao::lmao:

I found you, I found you!!!

Good thing too! We need you here!

Janice, thanks for letting us know. I have not been able to get online much today and missed it

Count me in as another who was too shy to barge in on the last thread though I lurked there often.

No need to be shy. Please stay and post often.

I am not having a good day at all!

I hope that tomorrow is better. Sometimes it does not pay to get dressed, much better to stay in your jammies, have some tea and read all day

Buddy sends his thanks for all of the birthday wishes. He was surprised all of my friends would take the time to think of him today. I also wanted to let you know his Aunt is okay, she was just scared. Now my Aunt is failing. She is losing her memory and yet she want to stay in her home. She is 94 and it is so hard to see her vulnerable.

Now I want to know where all those birthday pictures come from. I am stuck using the smilies here, but I love those images that you all find.

Dinner was really goos tonight. I did buy two European layer cakes from Big Y though. I am not sure about tomorrow yet.Have a great evening all!

Aimee- the DIS has been slow and I have the attention span of a gnat so if you posted about the other night I missed it. How did everything go? Are you feeling better?

I posted right before we lost our big thread, no worries! Yes, everything went perfect - it was an amazing experience. My only regret is that I didn't stick a voice recorder in my bra so I could hold onto the things said to me during the laying on of hands. Though that probably would have backfired on me somehow...

I am feeling much better, drugs are good! :lmao: I usually try to let my immune system try a crack at beating down whatever I have but I just didn't have the time to do that this time. =(

What do you guys think about starting a blog for the recipes? I do a blog for my ministry and it's SO easy to keep up with, plus you can organize the recipes by ingredient or meal type and add pictures. I'm happy to help if we want to do that. Then we could keep the link to the blog in the original post so people can just click to it to get recipes and pictures (if we want).

I use blogger.com, it's free from Google, though there may be other blog sites that are better.

Tonight's dinner was Red Lobster. I got 4 hours sleep at the retreat last night so I crashed for a couple of hours when I got in and didn't do anything about dinner. Their coconut shrimp is so dang good.

Yikes--so I'm away from the thread for a couple days and it disappeared on me!!:scared1: Glad I "found" ya'll again. DH and I had a nice date night last night. I had a wonderful pork tenderloin with a pineapple bbq sauce, creole creamed corn, and a spinach feta crostini. Yummy! Tonight was burgers and dogs at a house warming for my boss from the pharmacy. We finished the night with DD in the bathroom w/the barfs. Ugh! Working again tomorrow, so we'll see what DH comes up with for dinner.

My DH made his own seasoning years ago because of the salt in all of them. He had made 5 gallon size bottles that has lasted our extended family a few years. Unfortunately he used seafood seasoning from a local market that has not reopened since Katrina. I am down to very end of my last little shaker now! Don't know how I am going to cook without it?! If we find a substitute and can fix it again, I will post a recipe.

Girlfriend! OMG, that picture of you is smokin!!!:worship: I'm surprised we hadn't seen that pic before! If I had a pic of me that looked that good, I'd post that sucker all over the place!!! :goodvibes

On the fireplace, are you taking out the fireplace & replacing it? Or adding a gas starter thingy?

Yeah today got off to a bad start! And it does sound like some of the days you have had! I'm sorry my friend that you have these kinds of days very often!!

Aw, thanks! I feel right at home again! Glad we're all together again!

You are Home!!!

Nancy, Today would have been the day to just stay in bed! I did crawl back in & take a nap after I cleaned up the coffee! Only to get back up & start cooking and make another mess!

Glad Buddy had a good birthday! And I always buy b-day cakes, so don't feel bad about that! I can make a cake taste good, but you DON'T want to see what it looks like!

I know absolutely nothing about blogging. But would be willing to give it a shot with the help of you guys. I really do thing we need to consider somewhere else to "hold" all of our recipes.

Glad you found us too!! Thank goodness I had saved your pork vindaloo recipe in my file! DH would be REALLY upstet if I had lost that one!

Sorry you have a little one sick. Hope she feels better real soon!

BECKY, I showed my DH your breakfast pic. He said " That looks like it's straight out of a magazine!" Wow, I don't know how you make poached eggs look so absolutely delicious!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Nancy I use photobucket and bestsmileys.com for pictures.

I think we are having Glynis' famous roast which is one of the recipes I saved :woohoo:

2 boneless chuck roasts (2.5 pounds each)
1 envelope Ranch dressing mix
1 envelope Italian dressing mix
1 envelope brown gravy mix
1/2 cup water

Place roasts in a slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine mixes and water. Whisk together. Pour over roasts. Cover and cook on low 7-8 hours until tender.

I always add some carrots and onions with this.

Morning All!

We are having grilled NY strips tonight...not sure about sides.

Please send more pixie dust for A...he had Little League tryouts this afternoon. I am just nervous since he is probably not as good as the other boys since he has only played for 2 years...AND, the way his bday falls, he is on the 10 yr old team rather than 9. :scared1:

Sheryl, I am pretty proud of that pic. We actually went there for engagement pics and wound up doing that one too...all it took was one shot. It was such an uncomfortable pose...we have it hanging over out bed too.

As far as the fireplace, that is an actual box that gets inserted into the fireplace and they kind of close up and insulate the chimney. We (Tom mostly) is going to reface the whole thing with some kind of stone veneer. The unit really throws alot of heat.

Nancy, Prayers for both of your aunts...I am glad that Buddy had a nice birthday.

Aimee,

Glad you are feeling better and that things went so well for you on Wed.!
