What's for Dinner Tonight? (recipe index in OP)

Thank you! Problem is, I'd go look at the first page or 2, see something I might like, and then go for it. Never paying attention one way or another. :headache:

I need to go through this very fast paced, moving thread and some how start copying recipes. I am finding a lot of good ones!!

I am in search of some pasta dishes... Aiden loves pasta and can eat veggies cooked really well with the pastas.
I give him baby fruit, but the veggies and meats look sooooo gross. :rotfl: I'd rather make him his own food.
Plus he is getting to where he wants to eat, what we eat (minus anything 'bad' like milk, peanut butter, nuts, ect...).
Or really any dishes easy for a toothless baby to eat. Pasta so far seems to be working the best for him. I just need to find ways to flavor it. He LOVES that Voila' pasta dishes... especially the garlic flavored one with chicken, carrots and broccoli. I'd like to learn to make it on my own.

I've got some of the recipes saved. I can help you out with some of them. Just let me know!

My son always loved pasta with peas when he was young...basically pasta, peas, chicken broth, a touch or butter and what ever spices you would like. I say a Giada De Laurentis show this past week and she made a sausage, pasta and peas dish and she actually smashed up the peas a bit. This might work for you.

Your baby is gorgeous!

We are going out to eat with some friends from church today so no cooking for me tonight.

WFD at your house?

Oh girl, you're killing me. Just killing me. You and your beautiful food.

Yes, it is 5 a.m. and I am DISing. I have been up all night. I went to bed tired but I didn't sleep at all. Finally around 4:20 I decided to just go ahead and get up. While putting in my contacts, it hit me what was wrong with me. I pulled out my birth control pills and realized Saturdays was still in there. I forgot to take my evening meds last night which include...

a muscle relaxer.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.

I am sick and feeling whiny, so I am going to whine to all of you! This morning I took my Mom over to the kitchen appliance store because her oven broke. I was walking around and looking at all of the gorgeous kitchen equipment and I just got so mad! I really want a nice kitchen with lots of high powered appliances, but my kitchen is just this rinky little closet with cheapo crummy stuff. I know so many people that have awesome kitchens and they don't even cook! GRR! Oh well....next house, I guess. I can't do a remodel here the way I would want it because it would be WAY out of proportion to the rest of the house. That, and I would not have a vacation budget anymore. Whine, whine, whine!

Becky, that is one reason I refuse to even allow the TV to stop on the HGTV channel. I would love a decent kitchen, and den, and master bathroom, you get the idea. But first we have to fix the house itself. It is an older house and needs several rennovations. DH has managed to trade out a car down payment with a roofer to have our roof replaced. It really needed it, but the most serious problem is the house needs to be "jacked up" on the foundation. One side is leaning slightly. Like enough that if I am measuring a liquid, I have to hold the measuring cup because if I leave it on the counter, the liquid isn't level. I haven't found anything to place under the baking pans in the oven that won't catch fire, so any cakes or brownies I make are thicker on one side or another.

So whine away girl. Whine away. But like Kathy said, if you can make what you do in your kitchen now, we'll all be blown away if you ever get the appliances you want.

The best part of this trip too is that we are going down to surprise my two DBs, their families and my DP. My parents will be at FW camping with my DBs.

Here are our ADR plans:
LeCellier - (I am craving duck, mussels, & pretzel bread. DH loves the mushroom filet)
Hoop Dee Doo- this is a surprise for my DP. Not the best food but DS loves to clap and dance to the music. My DP are going to love being there with him. (beer and sangria are a plus!)
Ragland Road- DH loves his beer, last time was a miss here but we are giving it a second chance.
Yaki & Yeti- this is a first, don't know till you try.
O'hana breakfast- character meal for our little man!
Kona- this is a family favorite, dying to try the Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop.
The Plaza- DH loves his burgers, it is one of our MK favorites.
Rose & Crown- another family favorite.

Other food and drink must for us will be Tangerine Cafe, Captain Cooks for dole whip, slushie in France, Kona for Macadamia pancakes and pressed Kona coffee and figaro fries. Anything taste good when I do not have to cook!!!!
I will worry about the calories later:goodvibes !

Ann, I think the surprise sounds wonderful! And your ADRs aren't so bad either. ;)

I love the duck and mussels at LeCellier too. And we went to Raglan Road on our November trip and really enjoyed it. We took my parents and I picked this restaurant for my Dad mostly. He loved the scotch flight, the band, and the dancer. The only part of the actual meal he commented on was the bread pudding which he said was the best he had eaten since his grandmother died over 50 years ago. My DH and I thought the food was good, but honestly, I would go again for the band and to watch my Dad enjoy it even if the food was terrible.

I know how you feel about your kitchen. I cannot even describe mine before we renovated. When we made plans Buddy said he thought that we should put the old stuff back until we saved more money. :headache: I wanted to shoot him and I would have gotten off if I was arrested! I whined to his brother and all he did was laugh. It seems he knew him better than me but I was one grouchy woman for a while! Then I wanted a professional duel fuel range and DH did as well.......right until he learned that the burners were gas. Oh well, I could have gotten him to acquiesce but then he would have spent every waking moment checking it so I gave in. It took over twelve years for a decent kitchen.

:rotfl: :rotfl: At least you know him well enough to know when to push and when you're better off. :rotfl: :rotfl: But in all honesty, if we were doing a big remodel and I couldn't get the kitchen done, I think I'd blow a gasket!

I am stressed about my Mom coming with us. She just doesn't seem to get it when it comes to what I do every day to make our lives run. As you know, she seems to expect a lot from me around holidays & such. And we haven't been on a vacation with her in almost 20 years either.

Sheryl, I understand what you are saying, but you can't stress about it. You need to look at it like she is coming on your vacation, not the other way around. And maybe, just maybe, because it will be more in her face, she'll come away with a better appreciation of your life (and Bob's).

BTW - the princess potatoes were very good. Please tell the princess we enjoyed them and thank you for sharing her recipe.

 No, they aren't brothers. Their moms just share the same philosophy that food should be unseasoned and overcooked. (Except in the case of beef, and then it is still mooing.) It was the usual meal at my ILs today...boneless chicken breast cooked in evaporated milk and topped with mushrooms. This was served over white rice. I am so in need of a snack later!

Aimee and Kathy, you really made me laugh with your reaction. It is especially funny because this is one of my MIL's better meals. This probably explains why my FIL has said that anytime I have any leftovers, I should call him and he will pick them up.

I don't blame the man at all! Poor thing. He's had a lifetime of that cooking. :scared1:

DH said that Greg is on track for planning on scaring the teenage boys! Although his recommendation was not dress unifom but fatigues while holding his weapon!

:lmao: :lmao:

Tom uploaded some pics for me! :cool1:

Here is the chicken and dumplings I made a couple weeks ago...it was soooooo good!

familyroom011.jpg

Here is a self portrait of me with my ear muffs and face shield on. Sorry, no make up...scary right??? We were using a 22 calibur nail gun so that is why we needed safety stuff.

familyroom010.jpg

Awww, thank you! I was hiding my double chin that I just realized came back today...after I have been eating horribly today...and drinking beer...I was the beer and bullet b**ch!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Love the pics Lauren - especially the one of yourself. At least you are maintaining your sense of humor during this remodel. I think that is probably the hardest thing to do.

I hope your day gets better.

Kathy - we loved the Saucy Steak last night. But I am an idiot. I read the part about cutting the slits in the bag, but totally forgot to do it. I jumped up after it had been in the oven for about 30 minutes, but no worries, the bag made its own slit (or huge gaping hole) by then. It was good anyway. And the meat was really tender.

I'm up kind of early today myself, not because I wanted to be however. Add Hailey now to the stomach virus list. She started last night and had three baths before we were finally able to get her in bed. She's been up since 5ish and so far, so good. I hope she does like the other kids and it is only a 24 hour type virus. And did I mention that Kenny now has the stomach virus on top of the other crud? I'm thinking of running away from home.

Dinner tonight is the million dollar question. I guess it depends on how the rest of the family is tonight and if I get a break in nursing duties.

Good morning ladies,

I took a picture of dinner last night now I just have to get my DH to work his magic and post it. Dinner was good, I could have eaten a plate of the roasted asparagus alone!

Not sure WFD yet.

Ann

Gretchen I hope you didn't have a mess to clean up. :lmao: Don't run away to the Midwest, at least not today. Right now it's minus 4 with a wind chil of minus 29.

I think I'm ready for the beach this winter is killing me.

Today we are meeting some friends for lunch at Rainforest cafe. It think I'll make a walk over to the Cheesecake factory for dessert for tonight. I'll need the calories to stay warm.

Lindsay I hope you have a good day. A night of no or little sleep for me usually brings a migrane on.

Morning all. I think I've finally beat this bug. All except for the nagging cough. So, tonight, I think I might venture cooking. I've got all the stuff for making moraccan chicken thighs with couscous. DH is leaving town tomorrow on business and will be gone most of the week. So, since it's gonna be just me and the kids, I'm sure we'll be feasting on Mac and Cheese with nuggets on the side.

/
Gretchen - You sure have your hands full with both Hailey & Kenny sick, hope they both shake it today.

Steph - Glad to hear you're feeling better!!

I'm making Spaghetti with Bolognese sauce today. Sides will be broccoli/cheese casserole and a salad.

Morning All!

Gretchen, Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Stepahnie, glad you are feeling better.

Lindsay, hope you feel better soon too. I have been forgetting my thyroid medicine alot lately...mostly at night. What a pain, right?

We are having ham steak, Princess Potatoes and Corn...maybe some bisquits. I am really loving this market day stuff I ordered...

We decided that I am going to make this for Valentine's Day! :cool1: It was a toss up between this and the Saucy Steak...we are having that Tues. :)

I have been looking but am not seeing the saucy steak recipe everyone is mentioning. Would someone please post it for me? Is it tender? DH is not a huge fan of beef unless it is like butter.

WFD-DH has requested ranch shake & bake pork chops, apple sauce, rice pilaf, and peas. Nothing gourmet tonight, I will be opening a few boxes:goodvibes !

Thanks,
Ann

I had to find it too! Page 42...Kathy did say it comes out very tender.

Ann - like anything else the better your cut of meat the more tender it will be. I've used cheap sirloin cuts and they still come out tender because it cooks so long.

Gretchen, I don't know how you manage to retain your humor on days like this. I hope Hailey and Kenny feel better really soon.

I think I'm ready for the beach this winter is killing me.

I second this, and the weather here hasn't been nearly as awful as where you are.

Lindsay -- Take it easy today.

Stephanie -- I am glad you are doing better.

Unfortunately, I have to add Caili to the list of sick people on this thread. I am not sure what she has yet because she has been in bed and asleep most of the morning, but she has a fever and she said her stomach was bothering her. I'll know more when she wakes up.

This means we miss out on our usual Sunday visit with my family. That also means I have a meal to prepare that I was not anticipating. I'm not sure what that will be yet, but it's a good bet that it will be some kind of pasta.

Janice, I won't gross anyone out about the mess, but Hailey just doesn't get the whole run for the bathroom thing. The first time though, she was in her swing and just held up her arm for me to rescue her. The next two times, I was prepared with a trash can. She won't do anything in the toilet except sit on it, but she knows what to do with the trash can - guess she may be ready for college after all.

As for your weather and running your way, I'm not completely crazy. This southern girl couldn't hack your temps. I admit it. I'm weak like that. So I guess I have something to be thankful for. Our weather is beautiful. I spent yesterday in shorts and probably will again today.

And if you get really wishing for the beach. Because the daughter of a co-worker lives in Chicago, I know that AirTran runs some really good deals between Chicago and Myrtle Beach or Charleston. If you and Alex decide to run to SC, let me know.

Morning All!

Gretchen, Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Thanks for the well wishes girls! Neither of my sickies have gotten sick yet today, so...so far so good. But Hailey is much smarter than Kenny. She is drinking juice only and hasn't expressed an interest in food. Kenny, however, just made a run to McDonald's for coffee and is planning on getting himself a burrito. :sad2: I swear, if he makes himself sick on that, there will be no sympathy from me. None at all.

Oh no. I'm so sorry about Caili. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

I'm thinking pasta tonight too as I have plenty of that in the house. Probably with chicken and pesto maybe.

The baked spaghetti is REALLY tasty but also really watery. Is that normal? I figured it would be more like lasagna but it was a little soupy.

Mine is not soupy but I have to warn you, I never am able to follow a recipe so I may have...read that I must have...monkeyed around with it. I'm sorry.

And now, to counteract my sister's horrible dinner, here are photos of mine.

Yummmmmmmmm!

Aimee and Kathy, you really made me laugh with your reaction. It is especially funny because this is one of my MIL's better meals. This probably explains why my FIL has said that anytime I have any leftovers, I should call him and he will pick them up.

After hearing that it is no wonder the poor man does not move in with you!

I need to go through this very fast paced, moving thread and some how start copying recipes. I am finding a lot of good ones!!

I use word, copy and paste onto a blank document and then I have a folder on my desktop that is "filled" with subfolders. I was not as diligent as I should have been with the old thread and now I am lost without my favorites but I have been copying these every day.

I think that little guys love pasta and potatoes so I would agree that any casseroles or pasta dishes that you can mush up will be what your little guy likes. I always tried to give my kids what we were eating as well.

It really needed it, but the most serious problem is the house needs to be "jacked up" on the foundation. One side is leaning slightly. Like enough that if I am measuring a liquid, I have to hold the measuring cup because if I leave it on the counter, the liquid isn't level. Oh Gretchen, you are not catching a break are you? Your poor little one  and you DH are having it rough so I hope that 24 hours goes by fast.

I feel your pain about your remodel. Our home was a cottage originally and it was just tossed together with whatever, but Buddy could not "see" that under the additional Sheetrock etc. He had to jack up the floors to try to even the house out but it was a nightmare. We ended up having to "unlevel" it at one point because it was causing issues elsewhere so now as he walked over our new floors and watches balls roll downhill he cringes.

I always have to tease him about the kitchen though. He wanted to remodel for 25 to 30 K. The architect and I both told him a brand new kitchen was going to run that but he was sure it could be done. Well thank goodness we had been saving for years because I did not know who I was married to for a year. To this day he has asked me not to tell him how much we spent ( his poor heart could not stand the pain) and to this day I always thank him for being our money manager. I cannot save to save my life and if I save for kitchen appliances we would have had a new toaster over and a wine cooler. He saved and I got more than I had ever dreamed of.

I think I'm ready for the beach this winter is killing me.

You need to run south, my friend! We are getting a watered down version of your weather and I am sulking, I have no idea how I would manage what your neck of the woods has had.

Kenny, however, just made a run to McDonald's for coffee and is planning on getting himself a burrito. :sad2: I swear, if he makes himself sick on that, there will be no sympathy from me. None at all.

:scared1:

I agree with Laura, your humor is astonishing!

Oh no! Poor kid!

Lindsay- Take it easy and try to rest today.

Lauren- Love the Pics!

I am not really cooking today. Last week I had bought a lot of chicken and it was gross. I think the oil had broken down from so much frying but I called and let them know. They were good and told me I could have my money back or new chicken one day this week and I opted for the chicken. I am afraid to make fried chicken and Kathy is a little too far away for me to crash her kitchen for lessons, so I am stuck with buying it until I get braver. We are just going to enjoy hanging out today and eating snack type foods with the chicken.
