But what advantage is there to DVC to buy an existing timeshare in Hawaii and renovate it? There would be nothing for them to sell...they would need to honor the contracts of the existig owners, all it would do is give them access to the DVC WDW resorts, and us access to their resort, if it is brought into the full DVC system. Also, as most "older" timeshares were a "forever" type purchase, it would obligate DVC for much longer than the 2042/2054 expiration of DVC.

I would be more willing to believe it would be an entirely new resort..but costs in Hawaii may be prohibitive...the selling price per point -or the point chart- wouldbe extremely high and out of line with other DVC resorts.
How about the CoCo Palms? It has been empty ever since the hurricane in '92, and last time we were in Kauai, the rumor was that someone was in the process of buying it to turn it into a timeshare...... OH I HOPE it is DVC!!! :goodvibes

I had heard, I don't remember where exactly, That DVC was in the process of buying the Ko-Olina Resort on Oahu. there is already many condo style rooms on the grounds as I understand it. It is also not a current timeshare. I thought that I heard this from a CM at epcot. I also heard at Christmas from a CM that a new park was 18 months to 2 years out and will "blow away" all existing parks. For what its worth.

I have to say that if what pinmaniac says is true, it is very disappointing. If it is Eagle Pines, I don't think that will appeal to most of the existing members as an add-on. I dare say those who have decided that they want a downtown disney resort have already added on at SSR or bought small key west contracts on resale.

:cool1: , a Yeti Concierge Floor!

Fingers still crossed for Contemp. Villas, can't imagine what the point cost would be, surely more than what's charged for the top DVC's now.

Not to throw a red herring into the mix...but, yesterday was pricing out DCL for 2007 & CM indicated that a lot of the dates for the Magic haven't been announced as of yet (but wouldn't speculate as to why)...something else brewing?

We booked our 4 night cruise for July 8 2007 with a travel agent that only books Disney vactions. Originally we wanted late June. When she got back to me she said that Disney was blocking out large periods of time where they were not selling cruise dates. She was told that Disney is thinking about doing a cruise to Europe. Who knows if it is true. Only time will tell. But she did say it was strange that Disney was not releasing prime dates in June but released other dates.

Hi Neighbors,
As I said some time ago.... I have a very good guess, of which I have been trying to contain. For I don't want to needlessly get everyone over excited if it is not entirely true yet. But here it goes......

It is true that Disney will be expanding their "Adventures By Disney" segment of the recent test marketing that was done last summer to Wyoming and Hawaii. I'm told that it was a huge success and that the destinations will be expanded to other locals. This will be taking place this summer and Disney has not yet kicked off the marketing blitz. So I don't know exactly, but the timing of all this makes it extremely interesting.......
So my GUESS is that it will "ultimately" be available for points. :rotfl2: :Pinkbounc :rotfl2: Remember the points part of this is just a GUESS! :confused3
But wouldn't that be GGRREEAATT!!!!

Unfortunately, I came across an article from Feb 2005, that indicates that current plans aren't DVC but another developer :(

http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2005/Feb/02/ln/ln21p.html
From other articles, I agree that a Coco Palms Kauai DVC resort is extremely unlikely. However, just because another developer is involved in a resort project doesn't mean that DVC can't also be involved.

There are a number of Marriott Vacation Clubs in which Marriott works with another developer. The developer provides the location and financing. Marriott brings the name recognition, reputation, marketing, sales, ongoing management, and inclusion in the MVCI network of resorts. In such resorts, Marriott may or may not have an equity role. Presumably, the developer and Marriott both make money, and Marriott doesn't have to come up with all (or any) of the money for land and construction.

Along the same lines, I could see DVD/DVC working with another developer. In fact, in any future off-site locations, I think such a partnership is actually more likely than DVD doing everything themselves.

I recently posted Could this be the New DVC Resort in Hawaii?, speculating that the developers of the Grand Ko Olina project at Ko Olina on Oahu are likey to want a timeshare partner for the timeshare part of the massive resort complex -- and a DVC resort could be a good fit for the developers and DVD/DVC.

That doesn't exactly mean, "DVC was in the process of buying the Ko-Olina Resort on Oahu." But there will be newly built timeshares at the Ko Olina Grand (in addition to the Marriott timeshares at the south end of Ko Olina). It's likely that the new timeshares will be branded with a trusted, recognizable brand. Maybe, just maybe, that brand could be Disney Vacation Club.

We were hoping for a Hawaiian cruise to be offered...of course, we probably couldn't afford it but, it's always nice to dream.:flower:

That is interesting since I subscribed to the free monthly Mousesaver newsletter I remember months ago that they were looking for Disney people to test out a new concept in Wyoming. The price to participate in the test market was expensive. I believe it was a Cowboy ranch concept. Maybe something is finally happening with it.

...we were fortunate to be one of the participants in the Wyoming Adventure, and wow what a blast it was! So here's hoping that there is good news on the horizon!!!!!! :sunny:

I would love to hear about your experience on this trip. It sounded really great! Did you do a trip report on another board?

What resort on Kauai did they purchase? Is it a current timeshare property that just needs minor renovation, or something that requires a complete overhaul? I never even thought about Kauai when the Hawaii rumors first started...I just assumed it would be Maui. :confused3

I hope this is true as it would be an awesome location for a tropical getaway!

That's funny... I heard the rumors and Oahu was my first thought. I figured they would hit the place with the most to do.. vs the less touristy places like Kauai and Maui. Interesting where our minds jump.

Yes, I did a trip report. It's on the rumors and news board. Just do a search for "Adventures By Disney".
They will be expanding these adventures this summer to : Costa Rica, Italy, The Canadian Rockies, and France/England, as well as continuing the Wyoming and Hawaii trips. ;)

ok I think they have had their fun. What is coming soon. Please I have quite a few points left and I need to know what to spend them on.

There is a party going on downstairs and half my guests don't even know where Orlando is!!! Come on give me a break what is coming soon????
