Whats coming soon??

I think the news will, in fact, be the announcement of the beginning of construction of the DVC at the Contemporary Resort.
This board has always forseen most news developments at WDW. Everyone thinks DVC-CR is coming sometime in the future.
The positioning of the sign is such that the news has to be able to persuade timeshare buyers not to buy outside of DVC. A new promotion is not likely to do this since DVC will still be more pricey that Fairfield. Access to a monorail resort might be about the only thing that could stop buyers in their tracks.
I am betting money on this guess.

I'll second that. Don't have any money to put down on the betting table though...just spent it on an add-on.

Let's see, they could announce a new resort by:

a) putting up a billboard in WDW

or

b) hold a press conference, have a press release, email existing DVC owners, put it on disneyvacationclub.com, put it in Vacation Magic, have a mass mailing to DVC members, and/or have guides call existing members that have expressed interest.

I'll put my money on b)

FWIW, none of the existing 7 DVC resorts have been first announced on a billboard.

The billboard does not preclude them from doing the rest (press conference, email campaign etc.). I would expect that if this were the annoucement of a new DVC resort that the billboard would not be the first announcement. Instead I would expect a press conference with the other events, including the unveiling of the billboard, to take place shortly there after.

This has also been my guess all along.

I would agree with this. We just got back Friday night and I had dinner on Wednesday with two CM's. Both mentioned the DVC rooms at the Contemporary Resort in passing conversation. One of the CM's works in product developmemt and the other in travel. They indicated the wings would be DVC as well as one floor in the hotel.

One floor in the hotel? That's exciting.

I think it will be an announcement of some new sales promotion.

Or a) and b) and a change in new DVC resort marketing.

It just isn't logical that they would put up a billboard advertising a new resort that won't be open for 2 years or longer while they are still actively selling SSR!

Also, 'coming soon' is hardly an accurate description of something 2 years off.

I still say it is simply going to be a new 3D billboard with generic DVC advertising! That's what I was told by a reliable source in DVC management, and I'm sticking with it.

However, if they are planning to start on a DVC at CR they would likely have to announce it pretty soon. And they can start selling points at CR even though they are still selling SSR. Most likely, the CR points would cost a bit more than SSR and would have no promos, which would still be incentive for people to keep buying SSR.

Only time will tell...

Ya know, maybe they built a DVC inside Everest!

Hopefully not a lot of money, as you will be losing that bet. :)
It is only going to be a billboard to promote on property awareness of DVC, it is not going to announce any new developments. ::yes::

The billboard there may be replaced with something more elaborate but it will not announce DVC at the Contemporary.

The last day of our trip (last Tuesday), the guide at the DVC kiosk in DTD said the billboard was there to announce the coming new DVC billboard. In other words, it is a billboard announcing a billboard! I think that makes sense, since it's placement is right across from the entrance of the Bonnet Creek property.

How about horse drawn carriage rides @ SSR?
I have to agree, that if it were to be a DVC at the CR
that Disney would indeed have a press conference!
The bottom line is that no one knows but Disney!

Horse drawn carriage rides are now available at SSR. I was there on Friday evening and Prince and his "driver" were on the street near the boat dock waiting for passengers. The fare is $35.00 for about a 1/2 hour or hour ride.

Another way to look at it is that it's not a "billboard announcing a billboard." It's a partially completed billboard.

First, the billboard structure was erected. The next step will be to add the "message" elements.

Instead of leaving a plain, empty billboard until it can be completed, they decorated the billboard and added the phrase "coming soon."

Folks on this board have posted that it will be fancy 3-D billboard (which makes sense if you think of other on-site WDW billboards, such as the Tower of Terror billboard). In any case, this won't be a simple, ugly outdoor advertisement such as wireless service advertisements along urban freeways.

Some people on this board are convinced that "coming soon" means "this billboard will announce something that will be coming soon to DVC." My opinion is that it simply means the rest of the billboard is coming soon.

That's doesn't mean that I don't expect news about another DVC resort. In fact, I think there will be a press release this year announcing the next DVC resort. But I don't expect a billboard advertising something that nobody can buy yet.
