Whats coming soon??

When I was there last week I noticed them doing some construction work and digging behind the sign. I think the 3-d thing is looking like a real good bet right about now. I left on Friday and nothing was done or up behind the sign...

How about horse drawn carriage rides @ SSR?
I have to agree, that if it were to be a DVC at the CR
that Disney would indeed have a press conference!
The bottom line is that no one knows but Disney!

And those that "know" Disney. ::yes::

Another way to look at it is that it's not a "billboard announcing a billboard." It's a partially completed billboard.

First, the billboard structure was erected. The next step will be to add the "message" elements.

Instead of leaving a plain, empty billboard until it can be completed, they decorated the billboard and added the phrase "coming soon."

Folks on this board have posted that it will be fancy 3-D billboard (which makes sense if you think of other on-site WDW billboards, such as the Tower of Terror billboard). In any case, this won't be a simple, ugly outdoor advertisement such as wireless service advertisements along urban freeways.

Some people on this board are convinced that "coming soon" means "this billboard will announce something that will be coming soon to DVC." My opinion is that it simply means the rest of the billboard is coming soon.

That's doesn't mean that I don't expect news about another DVC resort. In fact, I think there will be a press release this year announcing the next DVC resort. But I don't expect a billboard advertising something that nobody can buy yet.
Exactly right, and that is basically what the DVC guy at DTD told me last week.

And he told you correctly. :chat:

I hope you are right Sammie (and knowing Disney myself I would tend to agree with your assessment, although the kid in me wants something a little bigger) or you will be eating a lot of crow on here. ;-)

I still say it is simply going to be a new 3D billboard with generic DVC advertising! That's what I was told by a reliable source in DVC management, and I'm sticking with it.

You know what they say, "One good billboard deserves another". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If I have to eat crow, I will be serving it first to someone that definitely should know what is going on, ;)

No worries. Having dined on crow many times, I can tell you it's not so bad. Tastes like chicken! :)

I think the big date is January 18th.... I forget why... lol but I think that is the date.

If they've been digging behind the sign, the new billboard should not be far behind. :)

My best guess is that it is the announcement of the newest DVC resort on the island of Kauai.

That may not be the announcement, but I have it on good authority that the "shoot" for the brochure is going on over in Hawaii this week. They are getting pictures of grandpa/granddaughter; family pictures; pictures of kids on surf boards etc. Sounds like to me that the DVC purchase of the resort that they are going to renovate is complete and they are moving forward with the next phase of getting ready for announcements.

What resort on Kauai did they purchase? Is it a current timeshare property that just needs minor renovation, or something that requires a complete overhaul? I never even thought about Kauai when the Hawaii rumors first started...I just assumed it would be Maui. :confused3

I hope this is true as it would be an awesome location for a tropical getaway!

Oh Please!!! From your lips to DVC's ear! I would be jumping for joy and adding on if that's the case! Kauai is my second favorite island too!

I agree.... I'd say no more than a few feet :smooth: :rotfl:

But what advantage is there to DVC to buy an existing timeshare in Hawaii and renovate it? There would be nothing for them to sell...they would need to honor the contracts of the existig owners, all it would do is give them access to the DVC WDW resorts, and us access to their resort, if it is brought into the full DVC system. Also, as most "older" timeshares were a "forever" type purchase, it would obligate DVC for much longer than the 2042/2054 expiration of DVC.

I would be more willing to believe it would be an entirely new resort..but costs in Hawaii may be prohibitive...the selling price per point -or the point chart- wouldbe extremely high and out of line with other DVC resorts.

However, if they are planning to start on a DVC at CR they would likely have to announce it pretty soon. And they can start selling points at CR even though they are still selling SSR. Most likely, the CR points would cost a bit more than SSR and would have no promos, which would still be incentive for people to keep buying SSR.

Only time will tell...

Ya know, maybe they built a DVC inside Everest!
:cool1: , a Yeti Concierge Floor!

Fingers still crossed for Contemp. Villas, can't imagine what the point cost would be, surely more than what's charged for the top DVC's now.

Not to throw a red herring into the mix...but, yesterday was pricing out DCL for 2007 & CM indicated that a lot of the dates for the Magic haven't been announced as of yet (but wouldn't speculate as to why)...something else brewing?

I had a long conversation with my guide last night as I was doing a SSR add-on. While he may be full of hot air he seemed very sure of his information. During our conversation he stated the following:
-The present being unwrapped across the street from Bonnet Creek is indeed a billboard that will kick off a new advertising campaign.
-The site location was chosen because DVC has had many new Fairfield owners tour DVC and state that when they bought Bonnet Creek they were unaware of the existence of DVC. The billboard is to help with the awareness.
-The next DVC resort on WDW property will be Eagle Pines.
-Both Contemporary and Polynesian have been discussed but nothing has been signed as of yet.
-SSR is about 2 years from selling out and they won't announce another resort until it is about 1 year from selling out.
-The current Friends and Family promotion will be the best offer available to current members in the next year or so (ie. we won't see prices this low anytime soon), but has been MUCH more popular than expected.
-The next offer will probably be $8 off per point and/or a combo offer of something tangible (like tickets, addl vacation, etc).

All may be true or none.

I really have a hard time believing that the Fairfield buyers were unaware of DVC with all of the advertising taking place at the parks, on the busses, vans, etc., but I guess it is possible.
