My daughter is bored, and driving me up the wall. Her 13 yr old sister has a friend over, so she is being shut out. The neighbors can't play, babies are asleep and she's "sooo bored shes going to die"...

We've made flipbooks, we've made food, we've played on Paint, she has veto'd a movie..

Ideas?

just bought a little time for ideas... she's loading the cookie sheet with chocolate chip cookies as I type :goodvibes

Read a book..
Write a book..
Have her "publish" her own newspaper..

Is the weather nice out? Is she safe in the yard alone? Make a list of things for her to find outside - a scavenger hunt.. Actually, you could do that inside as well..

A board game - or a card game with you?

Wish list for her birthday?

Old magazines she can cut up and glue pictures in a notebook? (Pick a theme: animals; people; babies; flowers; food; etc.)

Count how many blue things she can find in the house?

Play school with you?

Jigsaw puzzles?

Play Cinderella and have her clean something. ;)
lmao...right, like THAT'LL happen! Everytime she says she's bored..I tell her she can clean... she said she wants something "FUN", not cleaning!! :lmao:

Can you tell I'm a "grandma" (DGD will be 11 soon) and there have been many times I have had to keep her entertained with whatever popped into my head? LOL :rotfl:

threats of having to clean their bedrooms usually make them find something to do. Mine are playing the wii. How about webkinz does she go on webkinz?

Let her clean the all the windows and any glass doors. My two younger kids (8, 11) LOVE to do this!!! If you don't want her using windex, mix some vinegar and water in a squirt bottle. It might not be the same job you would do, but it gets done (to a degree) and she has fun doing it. Or run the vacum but since you said babies are sleeping I guess that is out.

Ohhhm, hunny...

I have 3 kids, now 23, 16, & 14. I remember those days well. In my house there is a rule--if you complain of being bored you are required to do some housework. Not that I won't help you do something fun later, but the housework comes first. This is not a bad thing, though. I find that kids actually like to do chores, if you work with them. There is nothing better than washing dining room chairs on the back porch or hanging out laundry to dry.

Summertime is kinda tough because the kids' friends are away on vacation, the schedule is topsy-turvy, and sometimes our kids are at loose ends. They *do* feel bored sometimes--but that isn't my problem, or yours. By the time a kid is 7yo they should be capable of entertaining themselves for large portions of the day. It is not our job to provide entertainment all day long, all summer. That's their job.

I keep my craft shelves well-stocked with paper, scissors, paints, popsicle sticks, glue, clay, chennielles, etc. I keep craft books and language books around. The TV and computer are off! Library once a week and all the kids were expected to check out enough books to last a week. Sometimes the kids will still say "I'm bored." But I'll give them a moment to think about it and they nearly always say, "nevermind. I'll find something to do, Mom."

Put your child in charge of her own entertainment. :flower3:

"I'm bored," in my house growing up was usually followed up with being handed the tools for weeding the garden.

Maybe you could go to the park or something with her. That's what I enjoyed doing at her age.:goodvibes

I wish my kids enjoyed washing windows and vacuuming!! When they were about two they thought cleaning was fun, but no longer.

OP: I can relate. It helps to have her do something new and different sometimes. Make homemade play-dough, or bake something, get out the craft box (we keep a big box full of various craft items), video game, puzzles, games, sorting through pictures, scrapbooking, etc... or, perhaps give you a pedicure or manicure????

Same here. :lmao:

Mine knew better than to whine to me about being bored. I'm not here for their entertainment! I always told them to go clean their rooms or read a book. For some reason they always chose the book. :lmao:
