What would you have done?

The current threads on this board would drive people away in my opinion. I was surprised to find out that a lot of the regular posters on this board don't even go to WDW. I'm not one of them I enjoy some of the planning boards and cruise boards, but you know after so many trips there is not much to plan anymore.
As I said, that's my theory on why they shut down threads. I don't know if that's the case or not. It's also a belief I don't hold. I agree that we've lost more people (whether leaving on their own or "forced") because of the moderation than we've kept because of it. I am one of those who haven't had to plan a Disney vacation in decades but enjoy (some) of the conversations on the Community board.

I'm sure there are plenty of other boards any of us can go to if we don't like the limitations put on us here.

I asked my DH this morning, how many people
we personally know who died from Covid? He quickly named 8 people. How many do we know still battling long Covid health issues? 4
How many do we know with serious vax side effects? 0

Got our 2023 boosters on Monday.
I had a bad case of Covid just before vaccines were available, as I have mentioned here several times. Since then I have noticed changes in my general health. Nothing alarming, but general body aches, borderline BP where it used to be on the lower end of average, things like that. And I know plenty who died from it.

I have a new job working in hospitals sitting with patients. I have no medical training. I am hired to help patients who get agitated or who may be fall risks. I also sit with people on suicide watch. Last week I was assigned a patient on the floor where I spent 6 days as a patient myself. It gave me chills. I’m thankful to have vaccines available and I’m reminded of that frequently.

Because for the majority of vaccinated people, if they do catch COVID, it makes the disease less severe. So hospitals have more beds available for people with other medical needs.
While I get this for adults, I really don't understand why babies, toddlers, and school aged children are being told to get the vaccine.

I am vaccinated and boosted.

But I would not be taking my children to get the same if they were 6 months old. Or a 5 year old. The majority of children do not get very ill from Covid, let alone have to go to the hospital for severe Covid.

Disagree. 1. I listen to my doctors. If my child’s pediatrician was recommending vaccination then I would be doing it. Just as I would for all other health decisions. My DD was in the first group to be recommended for HPV vaccines. The right wing super Christians showed up then too speaking out against it. I listened to her pedi and she got
It. The years following have borne out the positive impact of that vaccine.

2. My nephew is a PHD student doing medical research. He says that It will be years before we know the impact of Covid on kid’s overall health. He highly recommends vaccinations for kids. I’d respect his measured research based opinion over the politically based opinions every day and twice on Sunday. If I had minor children, they would be vaccinated.

Great example of not being able to leave politics or religion out of a discussion.

My former doctor told me the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was perfectly safe, even when I told him I was reading it was not the best and could cause blood clots. He didn't want to hear anything other than "Me Robot. Me listen to you. Me never question you."

I see absolutely no reason to give a 1 year old a Covid vaccine. Unless, of course, they have underlying issues that perhaps they couldn't fight off cold like symptoms.

My decisions are absolutely not politically based. But, I do not have young children. So for me, it's not even an issue. I just know, at this point, I see no reason to give a baby, toddler, or school age child the Covid vaccine.

Well, the AAP does recommend CV vaccine for children over the age of 6 months who don't have contraindications for the vaccine. So, a pediatrician who is a member of the AAP is going to follow their recommendations.

As a nurse, I believe that people should make informed decision about their health. For the most part, as long as people understand the consequences; they have a choice for their medical care. And we often will have patients sign a refusal of treatment form to that end. Any consequence of their decision is their responsibility, not ours.

The majority of adults don't get severe illness either. And there have been children under age 5 that have died from COVID complications.

The key word here is "informed." Many people think they are informed because "they've done their research." I'm sorry, reading Facebook posts and looking up a couple of articles on the internet is not research. I do appreciate people who try to find information; however, social media is problematic for several reasons, and most people don't know what to look for in articles to determine what is a credible source, statistically significant, etc. (or they don't care).

It’s always a treat to hear about people’s ”sources”. I‘m pretty sure that I’ve legit slow blinked at people before, 😂.
Sadly you can sometimes lose people if you are too dismissive in person, so I always make sure that I emphasize the consequences for their action or inaction.

My goal is not to belittle, but to ensure they understand what could happen if they choose to refuse medical treatment. And there are always exceptions. For example, a mom can refuse to take a drug test but she cannot refuse the drug test on her newborn baby. Your mileage may vary, but that is the law in my state.

A total of zero kids age 0-18 died of COVID in Los Angeles County. ZERO. My kids are done getting COVID boosters - unless of course a variant come around that DOES harm kids, in which case the current vaccine will not stop it. The school shutdowns were far more damaging to kids than COVID and that is without debate.

I personally never got sick, never even had any sort of symptoms that would compel me to get tested. I am similarly done getting boosters.

Pretty sure DW got COVID in 12/2019. That's before COVID was even a thing. We think she had it one other time but nowhere near as bad. She got the booster with her flu shot last week.

You do what you want, but if you support any of the school or business shutdowns, past or future we cannot be friends.

And that very thought, having a different opinion or thought automatically negating people from being friends, is one of our country's big failings in very recent years. Divisive, corroding the ideals of our country that we can have differences of opinion, and still be friends. Very sad where we've arrived in so very few years.

While a child may not have physical complications from COVID, they may still be affected by having COVID.

I have more than one former student who took COVID home from either school or from a friend's house or just being out in public. They then transmitted the infection to a parent or grandparent who would have serious complications and then they passed away.

The guilt they are living with is horrible.

I know that a child can take a regular cold or the flu home and someone can contract that illness and pass away, there is just something with COVID that is hitting these students hard. It may not affect them physically, but we have the psychological affects as well.

Well, sorry Dan, that's just the way it is. For me personally, this has NOTHING to do with a "corrosion of ideals" or a "difference of opinion". I saw what the school closures and forced isolation did to my kids. They have a long way to go before they recover mentally and nobody is even acknowledging it. Not over it - not by a long shot. I don't know if you have kids or what their situation was, but I would certainly not expect you to feel any differently.

I personally would never wish for anybody's kids to be put through what my kids went through on the off chance that it might keep me from getting sick. Nope - don't ever do that on my behalf.

This doesn't make sense - these students went through the same school closure your children went through. Maybe not as long, but they still went through the closure.
