What would you do?

A friend has asked if we would pet sit her cat over the Christmas holidays at my house. Our friends are in the process of moving from Italy to VA and want to go to GA to spend the holidays with family without kitty. The problem is my landlord does not allow pets and has on occasion made visits to the house unannounced and I don't want to get caught with an animal. Additionally, it will be during the holidays when my house is decked out and I have an extensive ornament collection and I am afraid the cat will do something to my tree (I work full time and would be gone 10 hours during the day). What would you do?

i would also refuse, would not risk an unexpected inspection , and risk my lease on a friensd cat, could the cat stay at thier house and you check onit?

Def say no - a friend would understand when you say no pets allowed in the building. If your landlord kicks you out would this friend take you in? Not worth the risk.

Can't you go to her house and feed the cat?

Definately say no. We have been on the "other" side of this coin....and I am very happy when the pet sitter says no rather than to have Barkley be an issue. I think your friends would understand and appreciate your honesty. Good luck!!

I would also ask if you could check in on him once a day at their home. Cats usually do better in their own environment. If their litter box is cleaned daily and food and fresh water are given there should not be a problem.

Just tell her no and let her know that pets are not allowed where you live.
She could always put her animal in the shelter for that time.

They are just moving here and don't take possession of their house until January 1st.

in that csae could you help research the area kennels and see if there is an option that would allow you to check in on kitty for them?

That is a good thought and I most certainly could. I just feel so guilty/bad telling her no when she really needs my help.

I took in my bf's cat soon after we first met and it was a disaster! The cat was really anxious to be somewhere new with strangers and I was nervous that she would rip up my furniture.

If asked again I would recomend a good vet where the cat could be boarded. It's really nice of you to want to help out like that though.

I would also say no, and offer to find them a good kennel, or maybe someone else who would be willing to take the cat.

Good luck to you!

I agree -- in this case, say no and help them find a vet who will board the animal, or a kennel that the vet recommends.

Just in case you were still wondering. ;) I'd say No. lol

You could ask your landlord. Tell him it's for a short time and as a favor for a friend. It's worth a shot, and even if he says "no", I don't think you'll feel as bad telling your friend "no".

I would say yes - I would cut back on my ornament collection and make sure the house was cat friendly - I would take my chances with my landlord, and report her for unannounced visits (they are supposed to give you 24 hours notice).

But that's just me - I also let a friend and her dog live in my house rent free for 8 months.
