What Would You Do?

My husband and I are planning a trip for the first week in May 2017. It will be our first time at Disney. We are trying to plan out our week. Given the choices below what would you do?

Ultimate Day of Thrills Tour
2 days in Epoct
2 days in MK

Choice 2
Ultimate Day of Thrils
1 day in Epcot
2 days in MK
1 day at Discovery Cove

Choice 3
Ultimate Day of Thrills
2 days in Epcot
1 day in MK
1 day at Discovery Cove

We also have a full day in AK and HS each as well as a rest day at the resort.

Which would you choose?

If my math is correct, you are looking to fill 8 days, four of which will definitely be:

1. Ultimate Thrills Tour Day
2. AK Day
3. DHS Day
4. Rest Day

That leaves you trying to fill four days, and you are leaning toward three more Disney days plus a Discovery Cove Day; or four more Disney World Days. If I have that right, my honest answer would be "none of the above". I think that the Ultimate Thrills Day will get you to enough attractions such that you will only need one more day each at Epcot and MK. You will have tackled much of Future World at Epcot on your tour day, and the rest of FW plus World Showcase can be done in a day. Same with the MK. The Tour will give you a huge headstart such that one more day will probably be sufficient. So instead of planning three more Disney Days plus a Discovery Cove day, I would plan two more Disney Days and use your other two days for a two-day pass at Universal. That would be a better use of my time and money than Discovery Cove.

None of the above. If you're paying to do Ultimate Day of Thrills, and you're a couple without kids, you can cover the rest of MK in 1 day having hit the big rides with long lines on the VIP tour.

That you've picked the Ultimate Day of Thrills VIP tour suggests that you like intense rides, you're adults, and you're at Disney in May. With your remaining 4 days, I'd suggest:

1 full day MK
1 daytime Blizzard Beach (thrill-heavy) or Typhoon Lagoon (more relaxing)
1.5 days Epcot (use the night of your waterpark day at Epcot)
1 day left open for your choice of park, resort dining, Disney Springs, or whatever else you'd want to do. Discovery Cove if you really want, but a second semi-rest day isn't a bad idea. Or with Flower & Garden going on, a day split between Epcot and resort touring (walk to the Epcot resorts or monorail to the MK resorts) may be wanted. But generally, I'd leave a day open for you to choose what to go back to.

If it's just you and your husband I would choose 3. MK is great, but a lot of kiddie rides. I think you could do that in one day. At EP you could spend one day on rides and one day on World Showcase. And there's no way on earth I'd pass up a chance to spend a day at Discovery Cove if I had the means to do so

I wold go with #2. You really need 2 MK days to see and do much of it. There are so many shows and shops and things to look at. 2 days will let you be a bit more leisurely with your touring.

Discovery cove sounds like a dream and is on our vacation bucket list.

Ah. I thought it did. However, it does appear that the tour spends more time in DHS than I thought it would:

"Then, brace yourself—this adrenaline rush is just getting started! At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can take off on attractions like Toy Story Mania!, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue."

Given that, I wouldn't allocate a full day to that park as one of your other days, and would free up that day so that you could do two days at Universal. Given the choice between a second full day at DHS after having done everything described above as part of the tour, or using that day to go to Universal, I would choose the latter.

Without kids, I wouldn't do more than 1 MK day. Of your listed options, OP, I'd go with no. 3.

I would also go with Choice #1. It will give you lots of time to really enjoy the Disney parks and all that they have to offer. To some, 2 days in MK without kids sounds like a lot, but as it is your first trip, you will probably need two full days to experience the rest that the park has to offer (on top of all of the rides that you would experience doing the Day of Thrills). Not only that, but it will give you the opportunity to ride your favorite rides a couple of times.

Take your time and explore, there is so much to enjoy! One previous poster did suggest trying a Water Park too. If you have a half day somewhere, I would check one out. I have very fond memories of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon and can't wait to go back as an adult (our kids are to young to bring to a water park right now).

I would do Option #2 and get park hoppers and throw in an extra evening or 2 at Epcot for some of the better dining options.
