I'll try to make it short, LOL!

A friend of mine used to belong to a bulletin board for breast feeding moms. It was a support group of sorts, with lots of advice and many members.

Anyway, 3 of the members there became best of friends, sharing their family websites w/each other, calling each other, lending support, sending cards and gifts, etc.

Somehow, some way, there was a miscommunication or a misunderstanding and two of these women had a falling out. They became downright nasty towards each other.

One of these women threatened to send my friend's baby's photos to a child porn site! She can't prove that it ever happened, but ever since that threat, she has been receiving child porn spam. Coincidence, or is there something more going on?

I don't know what to tell my friend (well I do, but I can't post it here!)

How would you handle the woman who has made the threats? And what are her legal rights, if any? Isn't child porn illegal?

She'd have to have some sort of proof of the threat, I'd imagine. That, and the website that the picture was possibly posted to might help.

I don't know what I'd do, but that is simply horrible. Even if the woman never intended to follow up on her threat, it's still completely disgusting.

I'm hoping that the spam is coincidental, or maybe that the woman did go so far as to give your friend's email address without submitting the pictures. The alternative is too sad to even think about. (Likewise, it's just as sad that people would consider breastfeeding pictures as porn. :()

I'd cut my ties and be thankful I no longer had that "friend."

The porn is coincidental...I get porn spam every day.

Kermit, she didn't have any breastfeeding photos on her website, YIKES!

Just cute little photos of her baby on a bearskin rug (fake bearskin), photos of the baby on the pottychair (nothing exposed) photos of the baby in a little baby pool for the very first time, etc.

It could be that she just sent her e-mail out....I'm hoping that's all there is to it because I can't even fathom someone stooping so low as to violate a child like that!

She might consider changing her email address.

If the picture was sent, then unless she could find it... which would be an arduous task, I can't think of anything she can do.

that is gross that someone would even threaten to do that, but if i were your friend, i would cut my losses, and move on, without the "friend."

TLK-she has already done that...and so far...so good in regards to the porn spam.

I just feel so badly for her.

I know how violated I felt after I saw my photo on a troll site (along with several other DISers here.)

The sad part is, I couldn't delete it because it's stored on the old wdwinfo.com family site, and nobody has access to that anymore.:(

if the threat was made over the internet in a chat room of discussion board she can notify the persons intrernet company. AOL has very strict rules, as do some others. It could be worth a shot, and who knows, they may be able to find out if the picutures were sent. Not sure of the technology or if they would, but I bet someone with skills could find out for sure.

Sorry, I don't have any advice for you Blondie.

I just cannot believe that there are people in this world who are so vindictive and so hateful. People like that should be laying on a shrink's couch!

Very sorry for your friend.

If the threat was made via email, and you still have it, you should forward the email to your ISP as well as the ISP of the sender. I do not recommend contacting the person in question, they probably sociopathic and will just make matters worse for your friend.

If the threat was made on the BB, she should contact the BB's administrators and forward some of the SPAM.

I would also suggest that even if she no longer has a copy of the threat, she contact her own ISP with what she has and ask for their assistance.

There are a lot of sick, twisted, angry people out there. I certainly hope she doesn't sit back and do nothing. More people need to follow up and report this type of harassment.

She may want to post something about it on the BB they both participated in, to see if others are having similar issues. Or better yet, ask the sites administrators to post something. If you are all able to compare stories and share evidence maybe something can be done. Legally, if there actually was a picture posted somewhere, you may have recourse. Of course, the hard part is collecting valid evidence.

Another reason to be very wary of what you post in public. You may think someone is a friend and they very well could be nothing like how they presented themselves.

ByTheSea, I think that is wonderful advice....

I've recently had an experience similar to this, but it had to do with blackmail and threats - would you recommend sending the information to the ISP in that type of situation also?

BTW, I think that anyone that would threaten to send baby pictures to a porn site is just too sick for words...

That is just sick Blondie. I cannot imagine threatening someone's child in that manner.

I hope she gets that person locked up....to even make a threat like shows a frightening level of instability.

I know the feeling. I didn't realize your pic was from the old family site. Maybe one of the mods can help you out with deleting it.

As for your friend, I'd have her tell that idiot that child porn is illegal-and threaten legal action if necessary. Sometimes just the threat of legal action is enough. And I'd severe all ties with that idiot, if I was her! I hope the email she got from the porn site was only coincidental.

Isn't blackmail when someone is holding something over your head?

If this individual is continueing to harrass you and does something this horrendous then yes by all means report them. First go to your isp and then theirs. But make sure that you have the proof to back yourself up. They can't go by he said, she said, they will want to see what is going on. They need proof.

been there, done that, AFR.

blondie, the situation you describe is horrid. I get porn e mail all the time, and I just delete it. but your friend might want to change her e mail address just to be safe.

Porn sites: Don't ask because you don't wanna know how I came by this info.

Tell your friend who been threatened with having her child on a baby porn site that it's unlikely to ever happen, so she can breathe easy.

1). Porn sites typically do NOT solicit pictures from the general population because they prefer to have control over the content. They wouldn't purchase or post a single unknown pic due to the legal ramifications involved.

The only caveat to this is "amatuer sites" and I can vouch for the degraded quality of porn on those sites. True amatuer sites rarely stay in business for long because there's a very limited audience for what they think is tittilating. If there's a child porn amatuer site, it won't be there long because amatuers do stupid things, and child pornography is against the law.

2). Porn sites that DO solicit photos from the Gen Pop, want them in batches of 20-50 so they have a choice of photos to select. Sending in one photograph will generally get a nice rejection letter, so your friend's pics of baby in tub, on rug, in pool probably wouldn't garner much interest.

From what I've seen, this type of pornography wants children naked (genetalia exposed) in erotic situations, be it outdoors, on a bed, whatever. Typically the girl child is in makeup. There would be little market for a toddler sitting on the potty with no genetalia visable. Maybe the scat market would like it, but the scat market generally likes grown women preferably of Asian decent actually in the act of voiding.

3). Porn sites prefer actors. Period. Any porn site, especially one operating very close to the edge of the law like child porn, would NOT accept an out-of-the-blue pic from an unknown. It could easily be a police sting operation sending it in and waiting for it to be published.

I hope this information gives your friend some peace of mind. As I said at the top, though, please don't ask me where I come by it. The story is way too embarassing! :D

Blondie, that is sick. If you can prove it somehow, you really should take legal action of some kind.
I can't imagine someone that used to be a friend doing something like that though. :(
