Thanks to all of you for your warm wishes for my two Marks! No new news on the car situation...the adjustor still has not looked at it.

Mark (DH) has a protruding disc. He is going to see a specialist tomorrow to see if they think that medication, therapy and exercise will help the situation and how long they should try that route and then if not whether or not he will need surgery.

I am sure that you are glad to know what you are now dealing with. It's the unknown that is the scariest thing for me. Please keep us updated when you can.

Glad to hear you have a DX,hope the therapy and meds will help...my couisn just had surgery she had relief almost immediatley...

I know you feel good to have a diagnosis. It is good he gets into the specialist quickly. Keep us posted.

Prayers continue.

Ginny

I'm glad that there is a diagnosis. Hopefully he can get it resolved without having surgery. Maybe now he can get on the road to recovery. :goodvibes

Thanks, Connie, Ginny, Tim and Lisa. I'm glad to have a diagnosis and now hopefully we can get him better. Mark usually handles everything with a grain of salt, but this is really getting to him. I went to bed last night, fell asleep and then heard/felt him at 2:00 this morning get up and go into the spare bedroom (in a very old, uncomfortable bed). Tonight we are going to go and get him a neck roll and see if sleeping with that might help a tad until we find out the next steps.

Just got the news that we'd been dreading...they've declared Mark's car "TOTALED." We'll know by Monday how much the insurance is giving us for the car. :sad2: Looks like 2010 will be a no vacation year. :sad1:

I know that is not the news you wanted to hear at all. That is too bad. And inusrance companies (my daughter would shoot me if she heard me say that) don't care. It is what it is with them. Will continue to hope for the better for you

That's horrible. I think that used car prices are very low now with all the incentives that dealers have been offering. I hope you get a decent amount of money for the totaled car. You might be surprised of what's out there and still might be able to do the trip. **crosses fingers**

I'll second that!!!:goodvibes :grouphug:

Kathy, so sorry to hear of all your troubles. Hope your dh can get straigntened around soon. It sounds like he is very very uncomfortable.

KatMark, maybe the insurance company will give enough money for a reliable used vehicle for your ds! It is important for him to have transportation for all of his school needs, but remember that he's almost done (from the sounds of where he is in the program) and will be able to buy his own car in a few years. ...you just need to get him a running and reliable car to get him to the finish line! (graduation and job!).

Thanks, everyone. From what the insurance company said to my husband when they called late this afternoon, because of the age of the car and the condition (a lot of rust, needed paint job, etc.), we might get $700. :scared1: I don't think that will pay for a used car.

Mark went to the chiropractor and they have referred him to a spine specialist. The chiropractor didn't know exactly what the spinei doctor would recommend, but in other situations like this (where the protruding disc is located and the amount of pain), they could do cortisone shots...but this takes a long time to ease the pain, or do surgery and scrape the protruding stuff off the disc.

For a chiropractor to refer a patient to a spine specialist, it must be very bad :sad2:. I hope you dh gets the help he needs so that he's not in pain! Since I had my dd, I've had lower back pain (it comes and goes) and it's the worst pain! I couldn't imagine having a protruding disc!!!! :scared1: I hope they have given him something for pain management until the problem is resolved!

Oh Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. It's like Murphy's Law! Anything that can go wrong, is going wrong. That's tough about what the insurance is going to give you for the car. Does Mark absolutely need his own car? Or can he share with you?

Optimistically speaking, September 2010 is a long way off.... you still have lots of time to save up for it! And heck, if you have to cut down the number of days and just stay at CSR, then by jove (sp?) you should do it! That's what I had to do for my trip in April. It was going to be a 10-night split stay at POP then CBR but the costs were just too high, especially when we factored in the cost of food (no dining plan) and airfare. We're only going for a week now, staying at POP then one night at Poly (shhh it's a secret). This made the cost much more manageable. Not to mention my sister paying for the one night stay at the Poly has helped considerably. Anything is possible, even if it feels like life is against you. I hope you can work something out

I wish he could...but he is 150 miles away in Dubuque, IA!

If you're doing the beach at Marco, I definently would perfer to begin and end the trip at Disney. (plus I enjoy flying out of MCO) AKL is so lovely and has great restaurants that it's earned the status of my fav disney resort tied with WL. CSR is a favored resort as well.

That stinks about the car but please do not cancel your room ressies yet....look what happened to you this year, you didnt think you could get away and you did!

You have a long time to go until Sept 2010 and anything (hopefully good!) can happen.

If anything else maybe you can get to the CSR and forget about AKL and then come and see me...

Kathy, I am so sorry to hear that the insurance company not wanting to pay more than $700.00 for his car. That totally stinks!

Kathy, I just hate that the insurance co is being so stingy. That utterly stinks. Finding a car for $700 is like buying a bicycle. And with winter coming on we know that won't work. Prayers will continue for your situation to improve.

Mark def needs to see a neurosurgeon about his issue. Don did get better with therapy and traction but not all cases work so easily. The surgery is such a simple procedure anymore. Prayers for you and your family.

Ginny I agree with this....Todd went to every single Neurologist, surgeon, physical therapist, hypnotist, chiropractor and acupuncturist and all different meds...lastly we were referred to a pain management Dr who did a simple 4 hour surgery and he is 100% pain free now.....14 months of nothing but wasted time and money and boom he is perfect now.

I worked for neurosurgeons for 17 years. They really can do good things in a short amount of time.
