OK - I need some advice. We are looking to add-on approx 30 pts.
We want to add on so we specifically have the 11 month window for F&W festival. We purchased a 50 pt. add-on at BCV a few months back with the intention of using it for spring breaks, not F&W. Now, would you add 30 more BCV points or go for a small BWV contract? I am torn because I know the additional points at BCV give us a potentially larger group of points if we ever need them, however, BWV have the standard points and BW views.

Any advice?

TIA

Ellen

You don't have that many points, and it sounds like you want to conserve them as much as possible in order to get the biggest bang.

I'd go with BWV because Standard view points are less, and it's important to have the 11-month window to get those rooms during October.

Also, having points at two resorts, you can use the 11-month window at each by appropriate banking and borrowing. Go to BWV one year, and BCV the next.

I like the fact that at BWV you can choose a lower or a higher point option (standard vs. preferred views). For me personally, I like the additional flexibility. However, if you will always choose preferred views, then either resort is absolutely lovely.

Have fun deciding!!! :flower3:

While Caskbill and Buckeye make flawless, logical sense, I just couldn't bring myself to vote for BWV.
No doubt it's world class resort, but as they say, "It's just not my cup of tea." :smokin:

Do you plan to go to the F&W every year? Every other year? Every 3rd year?

A SV studio October - December (excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas week) is 9 points per week night. 30 points gets you 3 nghts - is that enough?

If you go every other year, you could get 5 weeknights, but you'd have 15 left over. Assuming you could use those somehow for another trip. But if you don't buy from Disney and get the same use year, you could have trouble with "stranded points" (can't use 'em, can't bank 'em again, can't transfer and maybe not enough to make a whole night's reservation at 7 months to link to another reservation). Keep in mind that if it isn't a true add on, you can only transfer points once per use year between our contracts, so trying to make use of those points could be a problem.

You could stay a whole week and maybe only have 3 -5 "stranded" points if you went every 3rd year.

So if you can 't stand the thought of "stranded" (lost) points, be sure to buy directly from Disney so you can get the right use year.

I think if it were me, I would add the points at BCV - less chance of losing points. FWIW, I don't think managing multiple small contracts at different resorts is as easy as some would have you think - especially since the new transfer rules went into effect. JMHO. YMMV.

We are teachers so we can only go on a long weekend in Oct. It would include 2 weekend nights and 1 weekday night in a studio. I believe totals are 58 pts. preferred and 51 points standard. We are hoping to go every other year.
Now, the thing I am not sure of are the stranded points. We are planning to buy from Disney so it will be the same UY. If we are definitely planning to come to Disney more than once a year, can we not use our extra points toward another vacation at a different resort (7 month mark)? Or is it considered a transfer if we use, let's say, BWV pts. for SSR at 7 months? All of a sudden I got very confused.

Also, what constitutes a true add-on?

You all know SO much more than I understand!!!

Thanks!!

Ellen

I voted for BCV since 30 points is really a small add on and the advantage of having them all at one place would be good if you wanted to invite someone or get a bigger unit in the future.

I voted for the 30 at BCV. My concern would be that F&W is a 'busy' time and not sure that you'd be able to get standard view at 7 months for any lenght of time (since you'd get only 30 points, doesn't go that far). So get BCV and have a bigger pool to work from, make the reservation at BCV at 11 months and if you can get in to BWV standard then just switch.

I just called our guide today, and he added us onto the BCV waitlist for 30 pts. It only makes sense to add-on there to have a larger pool (no pun intended) at BCV. Plus I didn't want to risk stranded points.

Thanks for all of your advice!!

Ellen

I voted for BCV because as others stated, 30 points at BWV is not going to go very far. I hope they come in for you soon!

BCV is the way to go. Better IMO but more importantly, you want to consolidate your points with that small number of points.

BCV to build sufficient points to book every year in the 11 month window. It is also the smaller of the two and likely the more difficult to wait list into.
