What would you do?New years trip in jeopardy

My DMIL suffered a brain hemorrage last week. 5 days later she is still on a ventilator, but doctors are optimistic she will recover slowly with minimal damage. We have ressies at BCV for our family and DH sisters family which need to be cancelled starting tomorrow. But we probably won't know till later in the week at best what her situation will be. I hate to cancel, because if she comes out okay, we will really need a break by then and there are three other siblings around to help. Truly I hope this doesn't sound selfish, DSIL and I are the ones at the hospital everyday as we don't work and are able to be with her. The trip is a Christmas present to that DSIL's family. So my question is if we need to cancel, how easy do you think it would be to rent these points 3 weeks ahead of time OR due to the high demand for this time, do you think MS will make an exception if they can fill the rooms from the wait list? How easy/hard is it to use points in reservation status? They are points from Dec 03 and 04 use year.

WE had a similar problem 4 years ago. We finally decided to keep the vacation, because we had others traveling with us. We decided they could still use the unit even if we didn't get to. Everything worked out just fine. I agree with your assesment of the situation. I would be inclined to keep it and just know that you MIGHT lose out. We decided to take that gamble.
