That is the ONE place on earth they don't have to worry about being 'COOL'!

Kids seem to not like being seen with their parents after a certain age. The great thing about disney is that almost EVERYBODY is with their parents! This way they are on even ground.

Really at that age it was the only place where my parents felt that it was safe to let us just go on our own. They would hand us our id cards, tell us to meet them for dinner at a certain time and send of us on our way. We took off for the parks and rides we enjoyed and went at our own speed.

Rollar coasters, plenty of attractions, safaris, Disneyquest, tours and talks at AKL too many activities to say.

If this is a serious question... stacilee gave great advice! EVERYONE is with their parents, and luckily "everyone elses" parents aren't there! (you know, the ones that let their kids all jump off of bridges, stay out all weekend.. etc etc) It is Disney.. adults get to act like kids, and even KIDS are able to act like kids!

I have a note here on Disney and teenagers.
We went every year and it seemed that some years it was the ONLY place on earth that our sullen teenaged son still talked to us. All the animosity, angst, and hormones went on hyaitus (how do you spell that word) for the duration of the trip!
Debbie are you really THERE right now?
If so tell the folks at AKL I convinced him to come back and we'll be there in 38 DAYS!!!!
sad note: this is the first year our oldest is not coming with us.
Happy note: First year in a long time that we don't have to book 2 rooms!!!

I'm 17, and my most favorite thing that I did the last time I was there was go on my own adventure. I took a bus to downtown disney and hopped through every store, and then later took a bus to the magic kingdom, and took a ride on the monorail. The best feeling ever as a teen at Disney is to just go off exploring on your own.

If you want to do some together activities, the surrey bikes at the boardwalk were a blast! Me and my 18 year old brother, my mom and my dad had a race with another family that we just so happened to pass.

The Op doesn't give much info but I know one of the water parks offers private surf lessons. Now thats something I think a teen would enjoy.

My son and daughter (now 16 and 20) love the water mice!! It's also a favorite of my husband's, so the kids may not get to go it alone!!

They're a lot of fun when you're looking to do something outside of the parks!!

My son is 17 and we've been going to WDW for years. Most of the time we take his friend. They like to spend some time touring on their own. I used to only let them escape in the same park. Now they pretty decide what they want to do for the day and we meet for meals. We both have cell phones so I'm able to be in touch when I start to get antsy. They have their favorites in each park.

One of his favorite things to do is Disney Quest. We used to buy DQ annual passes when we visited several times per year. Now we visit US/IOA more often than WDW. I bought tickets for a day at DQ so we can all go in June. It's also one of my favorite things to do. It isn't only video games but virtual reality attractions, great food, animation lessons, and much more.

Neither one is interested in visiting the water parks although I have read posts of others who say their teens enjoy them.

Do the 13 & 17 year old get along? Maybe you can turn them loose in the parks and let them find their own enjoyment. I always remind the boys they need to compromise on the touring decisions so my son doesn't make all the rules. I also remind them to look for things they can find or do at home.

i also vote Disneyquest, my teens love it there. You can do an early show at PI. The The Comedy Warehouse was a favorite with mine. Whenever we go to epcot we eat around the world. What teens don't enjoy food and it makes then stay long enough in each country to maybe learn something. Try the beavertails in canada and ask the CM to sing the song. shaved ice in japan is wonderful too. Innoventions, great for teens, mission space
Mouseboats are also a good choice. Water parks. millionaire show at mgm, TOT, RRRC. fantasmic! Have your 13 year old collect crushed pennies instead of autographs. Gives them something to look for. Hidden Mickeys.
You know what I think they would enjoy everything!

I have a 16 1/2, 15 and a soon to be 13... and they all love Disney. We stay together as a family and just love the fact that we all like doing the same stuff together. If they are not happy than they must be trying not to! My kids all love it all and everyone of us love finding the characters and interacting with them. When the teens meet the villians they will play it up and the villians live up to their names. Our family cannot wait to go again and just be the five of us!!!! It is a vacation from everything but the joy we have raising them and all being kids together!

im 19 now and have just returned from disney without my parents....had a blast! but i have gone with my parents and had no probably staying with them...were going in january, but are bringing friends so i doubt ill see them much!

I'm taking my 13, 15, & 17 year old teenagers to dw next week!

When I first thought of going, I was afraid my 17 year old would be less than enthusiastic. She has a boyfriend, a car, and a part-time job, and this is the first week of summer vacation... so I expected a little reluctance on her part to give all that up for an 8 hour car ride and a week with the 'rents.

To my surprise, she was ectastic! If anything, she's even more excited than her younger sibs. Go figure.

Maybe part of it is that she's going to be a senior next year and she seems to see the end of childhood looming on the horizon. It's a great chance for teens to be kids again.

You are so right! The only thing my teenager HATED getting on was IASW. Not because he disliked the ride so much, after all, it is airconditioned and offers a nice opportunity to sit down and rest for a few minutes, but because the song would get stuck in his little sister's head for the rest of the trip and she wouldn't stop singing it!

That would drive him CRAZY!!!

Since IASW is going to be closed for rehab for the next nine months that is something we don't have to worry about on our upcoming trip!

Last year my kids were 12 and 15 in the outside world but once we drove through those purple gates they both became five again! They went to character meals, collected autographs and posed for a million pictures and were never ever bored for a single second. We are going again in less than two weeks and they are counting the days and hours. The only thing my 16 year old dd is not looking forward to is being away from her boyfriend for a week but she has some prepaid phone cards she's been saving up so that should get her through the week. My 13 year old ds is pumped about everything! He cannot wait to do TOT and RNR a few hundred more times. He's not at all concerned about leaving his gf for the week! Go figure
Anyway, my point is, as everyone else has said, there is no reason for teens not to love EVERYTHING at Disney, although I have to agree with Stacilee's son regarding IASW.
