What words are hard for you to pronounce?

I read a series of books when I was little and one of the characters is Evadne. I'd never known anyone with that name (still don't) and never heard it pronounced (again, still haven't), so I'm fairly sure that I'm saying it incorrectly in my head (something like E-vad-knee).

That's how I've heard it pronounced when studying Greek mythology.

I teach middle school science and when we study animals, this example from the cnidarian phlylum always messes me up.

Haha. Also a middle school science teacher here and I sound just like Nemo when trying to say anemometer. The kids always laugh at me and one of them just says the word with ease.

Rural is such a stupid word! It's impossible to say without sounding dumb.

My favorite joke on the show 30 Rock was when Jenna did a movie called "The Rural Juror". LOL, no matter how you say it it sounds like you have a mouthful of marbles.

I loved that episode. I walked around for days saying "The Rural Juror." So funny!

They sound like Harry Potter spells. Every time I pronounce one right I half expect the table to start floating away!

Executrix, the trix being the feminine and pronouncing the x sound after the hard c sound make it difficult. I always have to think about it so I don’t just say executress, which is so much easier to say and a more commonly used feminine suffix in English.

There's a Rural Road in my community and a traffic helicopter pilot kept mispronouncing it. Just think of it as rhyming with curl, and you're fine.
