What words are hard for you to pronounce?

Colonel.

For a long time I thought it was a separate word from "kernel" and my brain still wants to revert back to childhood's "col-lone-ol".

It really sounds nothing like how it's spelled- that's my biggest trip-up with pronunciation in general.

There are more than just a few words that are confusing to me but right now the only word that comes to mind is subject and I often tend to pronounce it in a weird way. Same with mirror, it just has too many R:s.

Why is Colonel pronounced with a R?
Colonel comes from Old Italian colonello, commander of a column of troops, which in turn derives from colonna, column. English usage followed Spanish practice (also a French variant) and spelled the word "coronel," pronounced the way it looks. Eventually this was corrupted to ker-nel.
