What we do for our children...

Wait a minute . . . are people saying that they eat the eggs after they colour them? Is that safe?

Oh, sure. We don't usually hide the real eggs but plastic eggs filled with candy. The eggs come out of the fridge to eat during the day or for egg salad/deviled eggs.

However, it's only supposed to be about 36 degrees here in mid-Michigan on Easter. So, I'm guessing that hiding them outside would be pretty close to hiding them in a fridge anyway. :rotfl2:

:confused3 What can I say? I've managed to get through 39....um....uh.....I mean 29 years (yeah, that's it) without dying from the dyed eggs. I'm a thrill seeker I guess :teeth:

If you want to blow eggs, you're welcome to come over and blow mine for me but I'm way too lazy.

Love the picc, Jack Jack!

OP, it is amazing what we do for our kiddos! Mine like egg salad, and deviled eggs so we are lucky. Thinking about following your lead for quiche, though!

I have local brown eggs, that would be so pretty painted!

Do you store them in the fridge? How many days after the fact do you eat them? I know that we dyed eggs with our Sunday School on Monday. So that's a full week before Easter. I can't imagine eating eggs after that time, let alone ones with dye in them.

The dye stays on the shell unless the shell breaks while boiling them then alittle dye gets on the egg itself. It is safe. We eat boiled eggs regularly, I will boil a dozen, keep them in the fridge and we have eaten them past a week. They are fine and delicious. Mmmm

LOL I didn't even know you could do that. I don't think no matter how much I liked quiche, and I don't I could do that. You do rock I agree. I am sure your kids had a ton of fun watching you do that. That should be a memory they always keep.

I have never heard of blowing out the inside of eggs until I read this thread. :confused3
I hate coloring eggs too. My kids are going to be doing that with their dad then bringing them over to my house. I dodged the bullet with that one this year.:rolleyes1

You do like to live on the edge Lara, dont you???:lmao:

We dye hard bolied eggs and then unfortunately they go to waste bc no one in my house eats them or will eat egg salas. Maybe I can unlaod them on my ILs since they will be here but then my kids will only have the eggs to look at for two days.

MIL want to do it with them so I am going to let her. So now I just have to go get eggs

I get faint blowing up balloons. I can't imagine blowing out that many eggs!

We dye our eggs on Good Friday, make deviled eggs and egg salad on Saturday, and serve them for lunch and/or dinner on Easter.

We can't hide the real eggs for hunting or our dog would have a feast and there would be nothing left for us.

When I was a kid, we always hunted for the real eggs and then ate them later.

I might regret asking....but how do you blow eggs? I can only eat so many hard boiled eggs and we do 4doz dyed eggs as well.

I am another person that has made it thru 40 years of life, eating colored eggs at Easter time :) Now as an adult, I even use them for deviled eggs, potato salad etc. Still alive and somewhat normal

1. You might just want to go ahead and have a shot of vodka - you're going to need it

2. Poke a hole in the top and bottom of the egg with a saftey pin. You may need to make the holes a little bigger depending on what sort of "surprises" you find inside

3. Push the pin in the top and bottom holes and swoosh the pin around, breaking up the "yellow boogers" and antything else thats thick and oozy

4. (This is why you had the shot of vodka) Hold your head over a bowl (or toilet... you might need it after you complete this step) and press your lips firmly to the bottom of the egg. Blow hard.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 until you feel like a winner mom. I happened to complete 16 eggs (two of them cracked mid blow) but then again, I have some catching up to do on the winner points for the year.

Enjoy!

I do need some Super Mom points though...

Well I think I'll start with a dozen and see how it goes from there! :rotfl:

You lost me after Step 1.

No way am I blowing out eggs.

We just hard boil them and eat some (well...I eat some) and eventually the rest just end up in the garbage. I'm hosting Easter this year so maybe other people will eat them. We do put them in the fridge though.

We always ate colored eggs growing up -- I mean they are hard boiled eggs that you can eat without coloring them. The coloring is basically food coloring same thing I use when I decorate cakes & the kids eat that for sure!

We don't hunt the real eggs -- we use plastic eggs for hunts.

We will be coloring 4 dozen eggs tomorrow. I don't need 4 dozen eggs for anything but I have 4 kids and they each color 1 dozen eggs (more or less -- depends on how many crack while boiling!!! :lmao: )

Just make sure you are sticking a needle in (then shaking the egg around with the needle in it) to puncture the yolk. Makes blowing out the egg MUCH easier! LOL!
