I highly recommend Trupanion. They have saved me thousands of dollars and their payout is within two or three days. Our puppy broke her leg last week and required surgery to put a in a plate. The cost was astronomical and we are now considering pet insurance!
Ouch! Thanks for the heads up! Fellow Mainer here, and that’s my local hospital.$1300 for in-home nursing services. This was prescribed by my surgeon and approved by my insurance. It's run through the same hospital group as my surgeon, anesthesiologist, physical therapy, orthopedist, the hospital itself... all these charges were in-network and covered by my insurance. For some reason the in-home nursing service is considered out of network... but they are all NL/EMMC providers! I am going to have to check into this, as that $1300 was for visits during a 9 day period in June, and I have had more visits since then! I am just mystified how everything else through NL/EMMC is considered in-network but this is not. Heck, my $70K+ surgery only cost $225!!!
Not truly unexpected, but paying out of pocket for my daughter’s mental health care. Options are non existent with insurance.
I understand. And although this won't likely make you feel much better about it, just know the situation is very similar here, even with our public health care system. Here in one of the largest cities in the nation (not somewhere isolated with access issues), the wait-list for meaningful care is months and months and months long. OOP services can be bought within hours $$$.
