What types of rooms did you stay in prior to DVC?

I never stayed in a Disney resort until I traded into some DVCs with RCI Points. Prior to that I stayed off-site at one of my timeshares, usually HGVC. I have elite status with them and would book a Penthouse unit at Parc Soleil where you can kind of see the fireworks off in the distance. That said, the rooms there are really nice.

We first stayed at CBR in 2017, came back to YC for our honeymoon and fell in love with deluxe resorts in 2019. Bought resale at AKL immediately on returning and haven’t looked back. So far we’ve done one AKL stay and one AKL / Poly split. Love the flexibility of it!

We always rented points and stayed in studios. Did three trips that way until we decided to take the plunge and buy a resale contract.

We usually stayed in Values (Pop or ASMovies) or Moderates (CB, CS, POR, POFQ). We had never stayed Deluxe until my in-laws purchased DVC in mid 2000. After they purchased, if we vacationed with them, we stayed Deluxe (BLT & SSR - their home resorts). If we went with my folks, it was Value or Moderate. My in-laws have now added our names to their deeds as they are older and not confident enough to travel alone, so thanks to them, it will be Deluxe for us from now on.

We started out in our early 20's staying at Value Resorts. Once our first kiddo arrived we started renting DVC points. Ocassionally we would stay on cash reservations if we found a good deal (like when you could stack Orbitz discounts with Disney discounts). When the second kiddo arrived, we started regretting not purchasing into DVC earlier and finally bit the bullet. We then started travelling with my mom and she fell in love with DVC and purchased her own contract. So now we're spoiled with 2 bedrooms on every trip, LOL!
