What types of codes come out?

I have scanned over this board for hours and can't find an answer.......

If I book CBR or CSR today for late January and a code comes out, I understand I can apply it to my reservation. However, what are the codes ususally for? Just certain hotels? A % off a vacation package? I know they all differ but I am looking for examples of what I can expect.


I have a hard time picking out lunch, figuring out this first trip to Disney for my kids is keeping me awake at night LOL

I have finally picked a date, I just need to pick a hotel and decide if I should go through AAA or a disney TA!

There are several kinds of codes, and not all are always available. The most consistent is the Annual Passholders (AP) codes. Those are for a dollar amount off of a room-only reservation. Currently, there is a package discount for Disney Visa cardmembers, and a general public package discount. There are also AAA discounts for room-only and packages. I'm not a AAA member, so I can't comment on the specifics of those.

You can make your reservation now, and when codes come out, IF they are available to your resort, you can apply them to your existing reservation. They aren't always available. For example, I made a reservation for the Wilderness Lodge at rack rate several months ago, and I'm an AP holder. Well, when the AP rates were released last week for October, I wasn't able to get the AP rate applied to my existing reservation. Seems that the WL is sold out at rack rate for my timeframe, so they aren't offering a discount there. That was a bummer! But, if you're willing to switch resorts, you might get a good deal elsewhere. I ended up switching to a standard room at AKL and saved $348 on a 3-night stay. It was worth it to me to save the $$$.

I check MouseSavers.com regularly. Mary posts the codes as soon as they are available -- often a day before you can actually book them! She also has a list of historical info with dates that codes have been released for certain timeframes. Plus, this board is also a valuable source of info. I think for these last AP rates, someone posted here before Mary had it on her site. It takes awhile to get the hang of codes - when they're available, what the discount is, when to book, etc... You're asking the right questions, though. Just hang in there & you'll figure it all out!
