I am going to WDW Dec 12 -18 and coming from a cold Northeastern climate. What should I wear to the airport and on the plane? I was thinking layers like a T shirt with a hoodie sweatshirt , jeans and my converse sneakers and then keep flip flops in my carryon...any other ideas?

Be sure to have that sweatshirt out on the plane. We just about froze this past August when we flew down. Layers seem to be the way to go, you can always take off layers, but you can't put them on if you don't have them with you:) Good luck

I agree with the layers. I am coming from cold weather we usually come down in March but are heading out this time in November. I wear capris, my tennis shoes and socks, and a sweat shirt. The kids are wearing their spring coats. We are only going from the airport van to the airport and on to the plane. I hate carrying around the bulky winter jackets. This has always worked out for us.
The kids I usually pack a change of clothes for warm weather because you never know when you will get your luggage. I also pack swim suits in my carryon. Put your sandals in your carry on too!

I did all the things you listed plus a puffy vest for my February trip. Don't forget that you might have to walk around outside or wait for shuttles at the airport. Sadly, it was so cold at WDW...thank GOD I had brought these things because I actually needed them in Florida

December is so unpredicatable. It can be very warm during the day, just cool sweater like weather at night. It can also be bone chillingly cold during the day and freezing at night. Do the layer thing and shoes other than those flip flops in case you need them, you will be fine.

I am tent camping the week before, will have a heater in the tent just in case. I have been down there several times around these dates and found it to usually be quite pleasant with little to no rain.

Florida is like Tennessee weather, if you don't like it, wait 5 minutes!:rotfl:

We will also be there Dec10-18th, we go this time every year. In December, it varies from morning to evening, what I have found to be the best & most comfortable & water proof is the Adidas or Nike wind/polyester suits (jogging suits). These are great for if it rains, riding wet rides, sitting on sidewalks for parades, & just all day comfort. I also change my shoes from my Nike Shox to Disney Crocs Beaches during the visit. I wear a tank top under my wind suit in case it gets warm during the middle of the day & since the Adidas suits are very light (but warm), they are not too heavy to carry or roll up in your bag. If it is really cold, I also take an addl jacket & gloves to keep warm during the evenings.

Those Adidas & Nike wind suits are GREAT. They don't take up much space in your suitcase, they weigh nothing, & the are waterproof !!! It is all about layers in December so you can shed during the afternoon & reapply them in the evening when it gets cold. I hope this helps !!:santa::santa::santa:

I am going on my first January trip this year, and I have NO clue what to pack.

I am going for 7 nights, I think I will pack

4 T shirts

4 Long sleeved T shirts

2 tanks

3 hoodies

1 fleece jacket

2 pairs of gloves

2 hats

lots of scarves ( I love scarves

1 lightweight windbreaker

4 pairs of jeans

1 pair of shorts

1 pair of capris

2 pairs of sneakers

1 pair of flip flops

underwear, bras, socks, and PJ's

I hope this will be enough. I will wear the windbreaker, and fleece on the plane as we will be leaving NH in January * brrr* as well as have a scarf, hat, and gloves with me. I will pack lighter weight stuff, a change of undies, a hoodie, and my bathing suit in my carry on.

How bout a different approach. Bring the layers, do what you can, but leave it at that.

The worry of not having something will ruin your vacatkion if you let it. Assume the weather will be awful, so when it is not so bad, you will be fine.

The worst florida weather at that time will be better than where your coming from. Plus since your not in the summer, the chance you will get drenched daily, prolly won't happen.

I am not really concerned about being in Florida...I have been in December enough to know to layer. But I am used to driving.this year we are flying and I am trying to figure out the best outfit for the plane that can be comfy ,warm leaving PA but cool enough if we arrive in a hot Orlando.

We have our first December trip coming up. December 20/25. Thanks for the great information on this thread!
We have been in the spring, summer and fall. As usual I'll be keeping my eyes glued to the 10 day forecast as we prepare for this trip!

I'm going to do some looking for those wind suits! I did track suits for our spring trip and they worked out so well!

i am going the same time as you, We are coming from Buffalo, so i know we will be wearing lots of warm cloths, and gloves :)

However, i will really watch the weather forcast the week we go, and although subject to change, if the weather week appears cold then MOST of the summer cloths stay home, and vice versa. But i know i will have more warm then not.

In answer to your original question about what to wear on the plane. I think your layers plus a hoodie option is great. The only thing I would change might be not carrying the flip flops. Just wear some sneakers that you can do the park in that day...
Are you taking a warm coat?

Yep, I am sure it will be freezing cold when we leave PA, and the longterm parking lot is a long way from the terminal..So I will be bringing my winter coat.I have a lightweight Northface one that is very warm ,yet very light .

I'm planning on taking my very warm but light Northface jacket as well! Plus gloves!

I go in February and I live in RI....New England wintes are verrrrry cold. I leave my winter coat in the car in the airport parking garage. It's too much of a pain to carry around the airport and on the plane. And it's a short walk into the airport. I usually go into the airport in a T shirt, a hoodie, jeans, and sneakers. I always have a pair of shorts in my carry on and change at the airport in Orlando. Then when I'm coming home I seem to always forget to put my jeans in my carry on so I end up walking to the car in shorts :lmao:

Just back from a trip October 8-20. What a temperature swing! Went from record-breaking heat (90+ every day the first week), to record-breaking cold temperatures (dropped more than 30 degrees in a couple of days)! I hadn't prepared for the cool, windy weather, and just about froze. And this was mid-October!!

Sooooo, my advice is to bring a little bit of everything. Definitely bring a hat, gloves and scarf for everyone - they don't take up much room in luggage, and you'll be so glad to have them if the weather's cold. Be sure to bring long socks -- that was my problem on Sunday. It didn't even reach 60 degrees, and was very windy -- even wearing long sweatpants, my legs froze because all I had brought were short "sneaker" socks. I hunted and hunted and finally found some socks in the Japan pavilion at Epcot. Wish I'd had a hat and gloves, too!

Also, be sure to have a warm jacket (with a wind-breaking feature, not just polarfleece). If it's windy, like at Epcot, that wind can cut right through even fairly warm clothes.

Have fun!

When my sister and I left New England in January we had sweatshirts, layers, and sneakers on. We left New England in August with a sweatshirt on too (the plane was so cold) and didn't take them off until we got to our resort room. The A/C was so cold. We hadn't used A/C all summer and found it cold in the resort lobby. When we got off the plane coming home in January my parents met us with winter jackets, mittens, etc. It was snowing and freezing! Our truck's trunk was actually frozen shut it was so cold. The temperature in January went from 70-80 during the day to 40-50 at night. We definitely needed sweatshirts when watching the fireworks.
