What to make for Christmas Morning Breakfast

We always have cinnamon rolls. After I bake them I put them on a large tray in the shape of a Christmas Tree and then use Green and Red cherries to place in the middle of each one.

Can you send Mrs Clause to my house? :)

We open presents one gift at a time starting with the stockings - so DD will empty her stocking and we watch, GM will open hers, then Dad and then me. After that we take a break and eat a quick breakfast, DH and GM always want high-fiber cereal, DD oatmeal and I aways want cookies but I tend to eat toast. Then we go back to the front parlor and open presents - one at a time, so we have the opportunity to oooh and haaa over each gift. This year though, thanks to you guys, I am going to try the Creme Brulee F.Toast and the hashbrown casserole - then I am going back to bed because I will be too full to open presents. :rotfl:

Hey kid-at-heart, you are the only other person I've ever heard use "Front Parlour". At my house, we have a "Front Parlour" (excuse the "u" I'm Canadian) and a "Back Parlour" and that's how we always refer to them - but folks are usually puzzled by this

Pillsbury cinnamon rolls !!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I thought I was the only one doing this on Christmas morning !! Glad to hear I'm not a bad parent.

Saw the monkey bread recipe and I think I will try that this year. Having my parents and sisters family over about noon time. Just having light meal for lunch/dinner.

Question, if breakfast/lunch is called "Brunch", what is lunch/dinner called?? :confused3 :lmao:

We call it LINNER!

Thank you all for the great suggestions.

I have decided on the french toast casserole, bacon swiss hashbrowns, oven scrambled eggs, muffins, and fresh fruit salad.

We call it Linner as well!

I would love to find a recipe with sausage that I could make the night before and reheat in the AM.....

I don't usually revive an old thread, but I couldn't find one similar that was posted for this year. I haven't thought about breakfast this year, so I turned back to this thread again to help me out. Still not sure what I am making, but I'm going to search back thru this thread and hopefully get inspired. Hope this helps someone else too, especially if you're last minute like me! :goodvibes

Thanks. It might help me.:)
Everyone in my husbands family is coming over to open presents starting at 7:30 a.m. Christmas morning.
It will be 8 of us. I am under strict instructions NOT to make breakfast. Earlier in the year I had mentioned it was becoming a bit much to go the X-mas eve gathering with our kids until late.. get up and host a breakfast and head straight to my parents family gathering at 11am. Everyone is exhuasted by the time we get there and then my family is annoyed.:sad2:
So my inlaws have insisted we will just have donuts.. but that feels so wrong to have everyone over and not feed them.
I am going to search this thread for something easy.
Sorry for the novel:flower3:

grits casserole

has grits, eggs, cheese, and sausage

so easy and delicious!!!

I've also started making monkey bread - a PP posted a ink to a better recipe than the one I have, so I'm trying that one this year!

How do you put this all together - sounds so yummy!

Here is what we have every year. We made the pancakes last weekend, so all we have to do is pop them in the oven on Christmas morning.

Make Ahead Gingerbread Pancakes

1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp. ground ginger
4 cups buttermilk pancake mix, complete
2 1/3 cups water mixed with 1/2 cup molasses

Stir spices in pancake mix, then add the molasses mixture just until moistened. Heat lightly oiled griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Drop 3 Tbsp. batter for each pancake. Cook 4-5 minutes, turning once until puffed and lightly browned. Cool on wire racks, then freeze on cookie sheets until firm. Freeze in airtight containers with waxed paper between layers.

To serve: Heat oven to 350. Place frozen pancake directly on oven racks Bake 5 minutes or until hot.

We like to eat these with maple syrup and Reddi Whip. These pancakes are perfect for Christmas morning because all you have to do is pop them in the oven.

If anyone would share their hasbrown/egg casseroles, I'd apprecite it! Looking for something with eggs and not too much bread that I can prep the night before. Or the recipe where I think it is pillsbury crescent rolls on the bottom of the pan and eggs on top in a big square baking dish? Dh refuses to eat quiche, but he liked this when we had it somewhere!

This is what I'm making for Christmas morniing - I make it every year along w/cinnnamon buns (pillsbury) and fresh fruit.

Brunch for Six

1/4 cup butter, melted
8 or more slices white bread
2 1/2 cups shredded extra sharp white cheddar cheese
1/2 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled
8-10 eggs
2 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dry mustard

Butter bottom of 9 x 13 pan.
Trim crust off of bread and brush both sides w/melted butter.
Cut each slice in half and cover the bottom of the pan.
Sprinkle cheese over the bread.
Sprinkle bacon over cheese.
Mix eggs, milk, salt and mustard and pour over bacon.
Cover and refridgerate overnight.
Remove cover and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until knife inserted in
center comes out clean.

This is soooo yummy and leftovers can be reheated in microwave. I do let
it sit on the counter for about 30 minutes to get to room temp before baking.

We use to have country ham, sausage and gravy to have with biscuits but that became so demanding since I host lunch for the entire family that now we just pop open a can of Pilsbury Cinnamon Rolls. It is just too hard to have "Santa" and then cook that breakfast to turn around and have the first set of IL's come to open more gifts. Sometime in there I have to be able to cook lunch and have 3 sets of GP's come over to do Christmas presents. All 3 sets like to have their own special time of opening presents with the kids. YIKES makes for a hard Christmas on me. lol This year my FIL and Step MIL decided to have Christmas this past Saturday. That will make things a bit easier this year. We are even thinking of allowing the kids (teenagers) have their stuff late on Christmas eve so we all can sleep in.

This sounds a little like my "Christmas morning wife-saver" recipe we've used at my church since the dawn of time. It uses ham instead of bacon, with a crushed cornflake "crust" on top, but it's a great make ahead to let mom (or dad) enjoy the morning with everyone else. By the way, last year, my kids woke us up at 3:30 a.m. to open presents!! :scared1: We told them to go back to bed...and not wake us up before 6 a.m. I'll make sure I remind them of that rule on Weds. night before I go to sleep!!! Have a beautiful Christmas Dis-ers!!!! :santa:

I can't have too much bread, but I was looking for something to do the night before. I found this on allrecipes.com, and I'm thinking of trying it:

Amish Breakfast Casserole

INGREDIENTS
1 pound sliced bacon, diced
1 medium sweet onion, chopped
6 eggs, lightly beaten
4 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups small curd cottage cheese
1 1/4 cups shredded Swiss cheese

DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, cook bacon and onion until bacon is crisp; drain. In a bowl, combine the remaining ingredients; stir in bacon mixture. Transfer to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until set and bubbly. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting.

I'm thinking I'll bake it the day before then reheat - sounds pretty good.

We always have Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. They've got to be Pillsbury. :) That was DH's family tradition growing up, and he brought it to our household. My tradition is banana splits on Christmas eve. Yum!

This year, though, I'd like to make a French toast casserole. DH says he doesn't mind...I hope he's not lying! I'm going to make it with homemade bread the day before and just bake it in the morning while we open our stockings. I'll probably cook some bacon, too (I cheat and microwave it.).

We always have baked eggs and sausage balls. I can remember my grandma making them, and now I do. I also make Monkey Bread.

Baked Eggs

Use a muffin pan and spray well with cooking spray. Use a fresh loaf of white bread and cut the crust off. Place one slice of bread in each muffin tin. Brush with melted butter. Crack a small egg and fill each bread (tin) with the egg. You may have extra egg white which won't fit. Don't overfill. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Bake at 350 for about 10-15 minutes, depending on how your like your eggs.

Sausage Balls

1 pound bulk sausage
1/2 pound shredded cheddar cheese
3 cup Bisquick

Mix together until well blended. Roll into 1" balls and place on foil lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.

We also make pigs in the blanket, but we use homemade biscuit dough for the blankets. Yummy!!
