What to make for Christmas Morning Breakfast

Praline Baked French Toast

My family loves this, especially on Christmas Morning!
And, the best thing is that you can make it the night before & then pop it in the oven in the morning!

Praline Baked French Toast
6 tablespoons Butter
1 cup Light Brown Sugar
2 tablespoons Light Corn Syrup
1/2 cup chopped Pecans
2 Eggs, plus 3 Egg Whites
1 cup Orange Juice
1/4 cup Sugar
1/3 cup Milk
1 teaspoon grated Orange Rind
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 (16 oz) loaf French Bread, cut into 12 to 15 (1 inch) slices

In a microwaveable dish, combine butter, brown sugar & corn syrup. Microwave until the butter has melted & the brown sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Pour the mixture into an ungreased 3 quart oblong baking dish or a 13 x 9 inch pan. Sprinkle with pecans.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg whites, orange juice, sugar, milk, orange rind, cinnamon & vanilla.
Arrange the bread slices over the brown sugar mixture & pecans in the dish. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices. Cover & refrigerate for at least 4 hours to overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Bake for about 30 minutes or until toasty. Serve immediately, each piece with some of the praline sauce that forms on the bottom of the dish.

French Toast Casserole (very good)

place 1/2 of the bread into dish
cut/cube the cream cheese...spread this on top of the bread
place the other 1/2 of bread on top...I usually place it making sure to cover any holes etc
Pour mixture of (eggs, milk, vanilla syrup) on top of the bread
Push down with a spatula making sure no bread is left dry (it will raise again)
Top with cinnamon
Cover and leave in the fridge over night

Bake @ 375 for 45 minutes UNCOVERED

This is soooo easy and very yummy! Enjoy!

You know, we never know what to make Xmas morning, and I would love to start a tradition like this. And my whole family looooves French Toast. Thanks so much for this!!!:goodvibes

I found this recipe at Foodnetwork.com. I made this on Thanksgiving morning and everybody loved it!!! It was so good, I made it for breakfast on Saturday :thumbsup2 .

I didn't have any apples or bananas so I substituted a bag of frozen peaches. I also substituted Texas Toast for the Challah bread. YUMMY!!!

Upside-Down Baked Apple French Toast
This French toast may remind you of a perfectly caramelized tarte tatin, the luscious French upside-down apple tart. Prepare the toast in advance by layering all the ingredients in one pan. When you're ready to cook, pop the pan into the over. The French toast will come out moist, succulent, and adorned with a fragrant melange of apple and banana. Serve it just as is without any additional fruit, butter or syrup.

Ingredients:
4 tart apples, such as McIntosh or Granny Smith
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3 large ripe bananas
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup (firmly packed) light brown sugar
1 tablespoons maple syrup
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 to 5 slices challah bread (1-inch thick)

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Peel, core, and cut each apple into 3/4 inch thick wedges. Place the apple wedges in a large mixing bowl, and toss gently with the lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Peel the bananas, and slice them crosswise 3/4 inch thing. Add the bananas to the apples and toss to coat evenly with lemon juice. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the fruits and toss well to combine.

Man, I'm getting hungry thinking about it :rotfl:

As an Aussie living in Toronto I will be making a batch of scones (lemon currant) with whipped cream and raspberry jam. Of course, with a nice pot of tea.

I will make the scones up a few days in advance and then freeze them and bake them off on Xmas morning. Then on Xmas morning I will just have to whip up the cream and pop the scones in the over for 20 mins.

We have English muffin breakfast sandwiches & orange juice--eggs, bacon or sausage & american cheese--YUMMY:santa:

Peel the bananas, and slice them crosswise 3/4 inch thing. Add the bananas to the apples and toss to coat evenly with lemon juice. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the fruits and toss well to combine.

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fruit and saute until tender, about 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar and maple syrup and cook until the sugar is dissolved, 30 seconds longer, remove from heat.

Pour the contents into a lightly buttered, non-reactive, 9- inch round baking dish. In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs, then stir in the milk and vanilla. Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture just to moisten (both sides), then place them over the fruit in a single layer in the pan, making sure to cover the fruit entirely. Pour any leftover egg mixture over the bread. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes. (This can be prepared up to this point in advance, covered and refrigerated overnight)

Bake the French toast, uncovered until the top is golden, 30-35 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes. Place a serving tray over the pan, and carefully turn them over to unmold the French toast. Spoon any syrup or fruit left in the pan over the bread, and serve at once.

I also forgot to add that the second time I made this with French bread and we liked it even better than the Texas Toast.

Happy eating!!!!

I scramble and cook sausage. Drain. Beat some eggs, shredded cheddar, milk, onion powder, salt and pepper. Pour into deep dish pie crust and bake at about 350 until set.

I consider it a breakfast quiche. I am sure you can add bell pepper or onions if you like those. I have never followed a recipe. It just always turns out pretty good. Sometimes I make a hash brown casserole to go with it.

Monkey bread is always good too. I just like doing something that is easy. I may try the monkey bread that is in the freezer section this year.

This is the recipe that I use for French toast casserole.
I use cinnamon bread that is thicker than regular bread though so I add an additional 1/2 cup milk and 2 eggs.

1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 t. cinnamon
6 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
2 t. vanilla (my addition)
1 loaf white bread

Melt butter and pour into 9x13 pan. Add your brown sugar and cinnamon and mix well to make a paste to cover bottom of dish. Layer 2 layers of bread over sugar mixture. Beat eggs and milk and vanilla together and pour over bread. Cover and let stand in fridge overnight. Preheat oven to
300-325 and cook uncovered for about 45 minutes, Cut into squares and flip over onto plate. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. (Doesn’t need the sugar though)

My family loves these. I take two crescent rolls, they form a rectangle. I lay in a piece of cheese, some crumbled bacon, and 1/2 of a hard boiled egg in them. Crimp it together like a pop-over. Cook by the directions on the crescent roll package. We call them Scottish Bundles.

I make these the night before and cook them in the morning. I serve coconut cake, oj, cocoa, coffee and tea with them.

I am planing on making a strawberry french toast bake but these all sound good as well

I too, got tired of the fabulous breakfast casserole that my family always makes and I created another one. I used english muffins, sliced ham, shredded cheese , eggs and milk . I layered them like a casserole and poured the 6-8 beaten eggs and whole milk over them, cover with tin foil and put it in the fridge over night. In the morning I put it in the oven at 350 for one hour. I make Knorrs Hollendaise sauce. We cut in in pieces and pour over the sauce. It is soooo yummy!!!

We do the same thing every year and we love it its not very christmas specific but its our christmas morning ritual.

We have your standard coffee, tea and fresh squeezed oj.

I pick up fresh bread usually a french or biscuits if they have them they make different stuff almost everyday you can never know and he is open christmas morning but onlt from 6-9am hehe leave it to bakers.

We then set up an omelette station kinda do it your own no little kids in house anymore so everyone makes there favorite omelette.

We do fresh bacon I pick it up from a local farm its really nice and thick cut very different from what I get at grocery store.

and set up fresh fruit platter with yogurt if anyone wants and some honey.

I could do without the omelette but thats just me I'm not a big morning protein person.

I have the inlaws over for presents & brunch every christmas morning. I make caramel french toast and amish breakfast casserole. MIL brings bagels and we have a great meal. Since I cook the night before and then throw it in the oven there is little clean up.

Can you share the recipes?

(Sorry.... I didn't get the quote right, but I am commenting on the Creme Brulee French Toast)

DD (12) made this recipe in home ec this year (minus the liquor, of course). She liked it so much she made it for extended family while we were visiting at my brother's house in PA and we all LOVED it! Maybe I will have to con her into making it for Christmas morning! It is so YUMMY!................P

I make caramel french toast and amish breakfast casserole.

What recipe do you use for the casserole? I did a google search and didn't like the ingrediants in the first few, but then I saw some completely different ones.

EggNog Croissant French Toast, Lil Sausages, Fruit Salad(Satsuma Oranges, Red Grapes, and Kiwi), Cranraspberry juice. It looks pretty together. Family tradition since our kids were babies.

Hi All- I'm newly diabetic so my usual cinnamon rolls are out this year- anyone else have a casserole that does not involce bread or potatos?

Would you mind sharing your recipe for the scones? They sound sooooo good! :)

Mrs Clause has always left breakfast for us!!!;) She leaves homemade cinnamon rolls, hot chocolate and spiced oatmeal (left over from the reindeer's oatmeal as the story goes) She leaves it on the counter-the oatmeal hot in the crock pot, the rolls rising and the cocoa made on a carafe (we think she makes it when she turns on the tree lights.:santa:

Can you send Mrs Clause to my house? :)

We open presents one gift at a time starting with the stockings - so DD will empty her stocking and we watch, GM will open hers, then Dad and then me. After that we take a break and eat a quick breakfast, DH and GM always want high-fiber cereal, DD oatmeal and I aways want cookies but I tend to eat toast. Then we go back to the front parlor and open presents - one at a time, so we have the opportunity to oooh and haaa over each gift. This year though, thanks to you guys, I am going to try the Creme Brulee F.Toast and the hashbrown casserole - then I am going back to bed because I will be too full to open presents. :rotfl:
