What to expect XMAS-NYE week

...
We also did MK on the 30th and it was busy but nothing like NYE. I don't think I could stand MK on NYE. Epcot was packed to where you couldn't even walk. I can't imagine what MK would be like.

Do you remember what time the fireworks were at the MK on the 30th? Were they at Midnight?
Thank you.

Fantasy in the Sky starts at 11:50pm and runs right into the special midnight fireworks at 12am. I believe it lasts until well after midnight.

We did NYE for the first time this year. Let me tell you, I TOTALLY underestimated what the crowds would be like. IT was NUTS.

Conversely, MGM (sorry DHS) was practically dead come 1:30am. We hopped over there for EMH after DTD's fireworks.

Great! Traditionally, the last CP seems to be held on the 30th, and we really want to go to that first before heading to MK. Do you think that the MK's gates get closed due to capacity on the 30th?

Yup 11:50pm. Its pretty cool. The count down fireworks are all around you if you stand in main street. Were ever you look. Then the same for the fireworks at midnight. They have them at the castle and at the train station at the entrance.

I went in around 10pm and stayed until 4am. It was a Sunday and they had evening EMH. We hopped from MGM (DHS) and went there around 6pm.

We never ran into closed parks during our NYE trip. But then we also avoided MK on the 31st. We went to EPCOT instead around 6pm that night and left at 9pm. We also kept to nightowl hours and planned our park days around night EMH. I think the only day we saw a park in the daylight was EPCOT on Jan 1. The whole trip everyone kept telling us about how crowded and closed parks were before we arrived. But to us, the crowds were even with MNSSHP events or F&W weekends at the busiest. Come 1-2am, they were practically dead.

Jade1- that 1st picture is beautiful- I hope you don't mind if I use it as my desktop!

We went this year 12/30-1/5. I stayed away from the parks on NYE. I thought the crowds weren't too bad overall. We did MK on the 30th- entered the park around 7pm and walked on to several rides: Pirates, Aladdin, Jungle Cruise, PhilHarmagic, Buzz, Small World... There were waits for BTMRR and Space- but I thought it was very managable- and those midnight fireworks were the icing on the cake. I had no idea they were doing a countdown NYE test run. It was really wonderful because we planned on skipping the parks on the 31st- but this way the kids still got their fun midnight countdown/faux NYE party! We ate at Chef Mickey's on NYE and met a lot of nice people on the monorail who had escaped MK- saying it was miserable- you couldn't walk or move it was so crowded. I was most surprised at the crowds later in the week- MK on Jan. 4th was twice as crowded as it had been on 12/30. Overall it was a total blast and I would definately do it again! To all of you getting ready to plan a NYE trip- have fun!
