What to do.....

I homeschool my children, so it is a non issue for us.
My parents ALWAYS took us out of school to go. Plan ahead, get all the work done before you go.
Disney is so expensive, to have to fight crowds and it can be such a wonderful experience in the off season.

I would have no problem taking my DD out for a vacation as long as it did not cause her any problems. I would love to be able to go during an off season (if there is such a thing at Disney, we went in October before dd started school and it was more crowded than I have ever seen it in the summer). So many people home school now, I have several friends that home school and they can actually count vacations towards their required hours if it could be considered educational. Our school system has really been cracking down on being absent this year so they would probably frown on it, it dosen't seem fair within reason as long as it is not detrimental to your child you should be able to make these decesions not your school system, I guess that is why so many are chosing to home school now. :sad2:

We took our DD out of 1st grade for 5 days in early Dec. I have no problem with taking your child out of school for family vacations. I wouldn't take them out if they are having problems and need to be there, but if your kids are doing good in school and they can make up the work go for it. We had all my DD's homework and schoolwork the week before we left, so she had it all done before we even went on our trip. I will only take her out of school until 4th or 5th grade, so we will plan one more trip, maybe when she is in 3rd grade. If I am spending $2000 on a vacation, I will certainly take it at a less crowded time of year and get my money's worth. Even if it means taking my child out of school.

We took them out for five days in first grade and three days in third grade with no problems. If they didn't do well in school or were in high school, that would be a different story, but it has not been a problem academically. They were far from the only kids to be taken out of school for a vacation.
