We're going berry picking!! We're bound to pick more than we can eat, so what should I do with the rest? Freeze em? Make jam?...What can I make with frozen berries besides smoothies?

We have tons of strawberries too! I am freezing them for smoothies! But, you can also make freezer jam and our favorite is strawberry pie! And, my son likes to eat the whole dipped in fat free cool whip for breakfast!:rotfl2:

Freeze them, make jam. I just made trifle the other day so good. Watching my waist so I used a sugarfree angel food cake broken up. Made 2 small boxes of sugar free vanilla pudding. Large tub lite cool whip. Mixed lots of cut up berries together -I used strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

Layer in a large tall glass dish. 1/2 of Angel food cake on bottom of dish. 1/2 pudding smoothed over cake. 1/3 of fruit and then 1/2 the cool whip. repeat layers and end with berries over the cool whip. It looks and tastes good.

Yummmm! freezer jam...enjoy!
we used to make it every year...until last year when a late freeze played havoc w/ local patches...no berries this year either.:sad2:

We went strawberry picking yesterday! We mostly like to use them for strawberry shortcake ( with angelfood cake and fat free cool whip). I cut and sugar the strawberries, then separate the mixture into ziploc bags and freeze so that we can have shortcake for a long time to come.

Where in the world are you picking strawberries in Hoosierland??? We have just a few teensy tiny ones here in the northwest corner!

We heat them and add a bit of sugar and corn starch and put them on pancakes or waffles.

Awesome! thanks for the link!!! I love going there to pick strawberries! If it is not raining tomorrow, maybe we will go! :thumbsup2

Maybe I'll see you there..... If you take Allisonville Rd South remember that Stoney Creek Bridge is out!

We come from Westfield, so we take 161st street all the way there! Don't need to go on Allisonville, thank goodness! Takes us about 10 minutes to drive there! Hope these darn tornado watches and rain go away tomorrow so I can make some fresh jam!!! :thumbsup2

I had some at a party recently and it was delicious. I am trying to get the recipe, but no luck yet. There are lots of variations of the recipe online. We went strawberry picking on Sunday. I thought we had alot of berries too but they are almost gone!!! They were delicious!

Ok ... I'm a huge fan of strawberry pizza ... but I can't remember the whole recipe.

I take a roll of sugar cookie dough and roll it out. I bake it, let cool. I think it's two things of cream cheese that I cream with a little bit of sugar :confused3 . Then I spread a thin layer of strawberry glaze and add cut up strawberries on top. Sometimes I mix it up with chopped bananas, when I can get them for 5lbs for $1.

I'm sure you could find a recipe online ... but it's yummy.

Besides smooties, you can use frozen strawberries for yogurt...my kids love when I make hem a dish of yogurt, then frozen berries, the top it with cool-whip.

Cobblers. Shortcake. Put a few over sure vanilla ice cream.

Sure wish I had some strawberries.

Strawberry Soup from 1900 Park Fare. Yum!

http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec_straw.htm

2 lb., 8 oz. strawberries (frozen variety, thawed with juice)
16 oz. heavy cream
2 oz. sour cream
3 oz. plain yogurt
8 oz. fresh strawberries

1. Mix first four ingredients.
2. Beat slowly until well mixed and a smooth consistency.
3. Chill; shake well before serving.
4. Add fresh strawberries as garnish.

It's the same recipe as zucchini bread, just leave out the zucchini. Crush the strawberries.
