What to do with candy canes on sale

Last year I bought a bunch of candy canes on sale and then the kids took two, made a heart on some paper and that was there Valentine's for school. They were a big hit.

You can also crunch them up and make ice cream. Candy canes come in so many flavors, you don't even have to stick to peppormint if you don't want to. And homemade ice cream is always a treat.

We used them to make "Peppermint Bark" last year for Valentine's Day. Just crush the canes & stir into melted chocolate - we used dark & white. This was soooo good!

My Mom used to buy them for 10 cents a box and freeze them. Good as a stirrer for tea or cocoa, too.

Break off the hook and use it as a toilet paper holder.

Drill tiny holes in the tops and thread wire through for funky new earrings.

Glue them to the bottoms of Simba's feet for kitty skis!

Stuff them down the disposal to give your pipes that fresh minty fragrance.

For children:

Suck the ends down to a very sharp point for jabbing your little brother in the eye. (Don't try this at home, my kids are professionals )

Stuff two in your nostrils and ask mom if she has any Kleenex.

Pin the Cane on the Gerbil.

I once watched a program about a candy cane factory (I think it was in Texas) and the owner said that candy canes have the BEST flavor AFTER they're at least a couple of years old..

Pop them in the freezer and use 'em next year..

Also - off topic - ya know the red and green Hershey's Kisses? Buy them on sale now and seperate the colors - then put them in the freezer.. For Valentine's day get a bag of silver ones to go with the red ones and use the green ones for St. Patrick's Day!
