What to do when Southwest lowers your fare?

We bought our Southwest tickets Nashville to Orlando a few months ago. The same tickets, on the same flights, are now a total of $250 less (about $65 per ticket).

Anything I can do about that? Any way I can get that $250 or am I "stuck"?

They will give you a credit that you have to use within one year of the original purchase date. If possible we try to go someplace within that time frame. At one time you were able to transfer credits to others. But that ended January 2011. You can try calling to see if they'll credit your charge. Worth a try. Good Luck.

You can get a credit back. It used to be the credit could be transferred to anyone, now it can only be used on the same person0. And it must ve used within 365 days of the original date you bought the tickets.
So plan another trip, anywhere and consider it a discount.

I usually rebook when I find a lower fare but we are maxed out for vacations for the next year so I know I wouldn't be able to use the credits. Now that they've changed the Rapid Rewards to the new system, the amount of points earned from flying is based on what you paid for the seat, I might as well earn more points than have credits go to waste.

If you go on the SWA website, scroll over the "Air" section, and from the drop down menu click 'change reservation'
You will need to enter your confirmation number, and then choose the same flights you were originally booked for.
When you're finished it should tell you what you're credit amount is.

Yes. Now I have a $232 credit on my account. That is on top of my nearly $700 savings from last week when free dining came up on our week on October. After calling WDW (and waiting on hold for an hour), we upgraded from All Star Sports to Caribbean Beach, got free dining and saved $700 on our week's package. Not bad work. Thanks, Dis buddies.

How did you save $700? Was there a special code? Please share the details.

Does anybody know if this credit policy applies to other airlines as well? Does it apply to Continental? :surfweb:

As far as I know, Southwest is the only one that does this. They also have no change fees for changing your flight plans all together. They are the only airline in the industry to do that. We almost always fly southwest. On a WDW trip about 3 years ago, we got slightly cheaper tickets flying with another airline and booked with them. In the end, we needed to change our plans. The other airline wanted to charge us a $150 change fee per ticket each way. We had only paid $99 for the tickets in the first place!! Needless to say that we have gone back to Southwest and will never fly with the other company ever again! Southwest is amazing to work with!! LOVE THEM>

How many times can you get a credit? If fares drop more, will they give you further credit? to tell you the truth, Im certain fares will plummet even further considering we are at the brink of a second recession and oil prices are dropping like a brick.

Not a special code. We had our planned for October and booked in the Spring. We booked a package with tickets, All Star Sports, bought the dining plan, etc.

Then last week free dining was offered for dates that included our check-in day. The regular dining plan (which we wanted) required a moderate hotel. I called WDW, upgraded from Sports to Caribbean Beach, therefore getting the free dining and the cost of my total package actually went down nearly $700.

Nice.

That make sense?

Airtran does it if you call but they do not advertise it. I have $75 credit and they say I can use it on luggage for November trip or to book another flight.

You can rebook for additional credit as many times as you'd like. Your funds will stay contained in your confirmation # and you can apply those funds to future travel. Just keep in mind that the credit will expire 365 days from the day that your original flight was booked.
