DH and I will be in the Twin Cities in a couple of weeks picking up DD (16) from music camp. We are planning on staying from Friday to Sunday. Last year when we did this we spent Saturday (our free day) at the Mall of America, which we enjoyed. This year we want to see IKEA (don't have one here in Denver) but were wondering if there are any other "must dos" as well. We'll be staying in Bloomington and will have a car. We'll be in Northfield on Thursday and Friday with DD.

Any ideas of a few good things we should do to get to know the Twin Cities better(or surrounding areas?) Appreciate any input.

Valley Fair for the kids, Science Museum in downtown St.Paul., Great eating all over town. Do a search for Minneapolis-St.paul and you'll get alot of info. There are caves on Harriet \Island that are really cool. I am in Minneapolis all the time but I am always doing Soccer Tournaments, flying out somewhere, etc... Somehow I never get to do the cool stuff. The Gutherie Theatre or the Orphium have fab shows. Also look for the Minneapolis Triibune(paper) will have tons of good ideas. Hope you have a great time.

When I saw Music Camp I thought, I bet she is at St. Olaf. Have you wandered around Northfield yet. The downtown is cute and some fun shops. My DH grew up in Northfield. Stillwater is another fun town to visit, a lot of antique shops, many old Victorian homes to see. There are a lot of museums, etc around the twin cities. Red Wing would be another town to visit. What kinds of things do you like to do, that would make it easier to give suggestions.

Fort Snelling is fun if you like history/Civil War type things and that is right next to the airport, so very close to MOA.

The Zoo in Apple Valley. ValleyFair (amusement park) is just outside the metro area.

Science Museum has this cool Body Worlds exhibit. You don't have to pay extra, but you have to make a reservation as they limit the number of people in the exhibit at a time.

Saint Paul Saints are the minor league baseball team in town. Tickets may be available, or not. They are pretty popular. Lots of antics and entertainment at the Midway Stadium.

Near the Mall of America, there's this new water park...I think it's called something real creative like The Water Park of America. I know there is a giant water slide that comes outside the building and goes back in.

I'm not into Valleyfair but here you go http://www.valleyfair.com

Stillwater is a great place to check out if you like antique shops and stuff. Depending on the time you are coming, there's a really fun apple orchard called Aamodt's Apple Farm there. Great family business, good apples and other stuff. They also have the Saint Croix Vineyards on property...Minnesota wines. They have a couple good vintages there.

Speaking of that, there is a new Minnesota Wine Trail that was just being publicized...kind of a way to have people visit all the wineries in MN, or at least the southeast section of the state. You probably won't have time for the whole shebang, but see if you can find info on that...you might have time for something in Stillwater, or something close to Northfield.

Again, dependent on when you are up here, we have the Taste of Minnesota, which usually ends around the 4th of July. It's a giant food fest with bands and vendors and stuff usually at Harriet Island in St. Paul.

Check out the MSP Convention and Visitor's Bureau. You can probably get an idea on what's happening on the dates you are here from them.
