What to do for Birthdays at DL?

We're not exactly sure of our dates yet, but we're planning 5 days at Disneyland in late April or early May.

All 3 of our kids birthdays are around our travel time.

Austin turns 6 on April 27
Hunter turns 4 on May 9
Kiara turns 2 on May 11

We'd like this to be a birthday trip for all 3 of them - and would like to celebrate their 'birthday's while we're there (ie Austin on our 1st disney day, Hunter the 2nd, etc) even though the actual birthday days might not line up exactly.

What can we do special for them at Disneyland? All I know about is getting a pin at town hall.

Will the Disney folks mind that whatever we do (if we have a special lunch, or something) is not on the exact birthday?

Yes, get the birthday pins for all of them. You can get them at City Hall on Main Street OR at one of the Disney resort hotels. Don't forget the pins, and make sure they all wear them. The pins say, "Happy Birthday [fill in the blank]" and have little Mickey icons on them, but more important than that, your kids will feel like kings and queens of the park when they notice that everywhere they go, the Cast Members on rides, in shops, in restaurants, all over, wish them a Happy Birthday and call them by name. Furthermore, in restaurants like Carnation Cafe on Main Street, if you eat there for dinner, they will see the pins and usually come over and bring free (small) sundaes for each birthday pin wearer. In the morning, for breakfast, they will bring out free strawberries with whipped cream and sing to you. In Wine Country Trattoria (which has food for everyone, not just adults), they will spot the pins and generally bring out MORE pins for you (different ones). My friend got a free tortilla at one of the Mexican places, and we got something else free too. You just never know. The Cast Members are told and trained to keep an eagle eye out for those pins - and they spot them on even the darkest rides - and it is up to their discretion whether or not they want to give out free goodies, but we got plenty of freebies. Sometimes they will just break out in song and sing loudly to you. SO make sure they keep those pins visible at all times. Oh, and at the character buffet places like Goofy's and Storytellers, they will generally bring out a free chocolate cupcake with Mickey sprinkles and another free pin, and they will sing thier own version of Happy Birthday to the kids. It's great for kids and adults alike.

We went to Goofy's Kitchen on my dd birthday last year and they had a little bag full of stuff and balloons, of course you have to pay for it, but it was an extra for her. As well, the CM's all say Happy Birthday. On Jungle Cruise they sang to my daughter. Dumbo they announced it was her birthday over the intercom, same with Tea Cups. In DCA at the tortilla factory they gave her a full bag of tortillas.

We also did the Mickey and Minnie Birthday Party, it was $10 a person, a little less with our season pass. My daughter STILL talks about this. You all get your own little cake to decorate, the host, Pat E. Cake is great, Mickey and Minnie make an appearance for pictures. I really thought it was worth the $$$ for us, we all had a great time.

You can also get a birthday bucket. We got that as well, nothing all that spectacular but she liked it nonetheless.

They will not care if it is not the actual day at all, it does not matter, you are in the general time frame. Have fun. I have a May baby too!!!princess:

We celebrated my ds's birthday at DLR last May. We did brunch at Goofy's Kitchen and then did the birthday party at the Plaza Inn. My ds loved both of them. When we did the party, it was $10 per person but it has now gone up to $16 per person. Some people feel it is not worth the increased price, but I would probably do it at least once because the kids just love it and it is a great memory. Plus, you get to have your picture taken with both Mickey and Minnie who come to the party and dance a conga line with everyone. I have included a link to a page with some information on celebrating a birthday at the park. I hope you have a great time!

You get a pack of free tortillas at the tortilla factory in CA.

Also, at Autopia they'll sometimes hand the birthday person a special license that entitles them to a free Chevron car at the little shop outside of the ride.

Wow did not know about the price increase, but I would say we would still do it again. For our family it would only be $18 more and considering that she still talks about it almost a year later, it is worth it. Now do I think they should charge that much, no, but it is after all Disneyland.princess:

Does anyone know, can you make PS for the birthday thing?? We will be there on my daughter's 5th bday in March, thought this might be a cute idea.

You can, at least last year you could. And actually should. Last year I tried to add my SIL/BIL and family and they were at capacity already so they did not get to go with us.princess:

With little kids birthdays (or big kid's) go to City Hall for your birthday button or go back later in the day. They will place a birthday Phone call to Goofy (at least last I heard that is who calls) to wish you a happy birthday its free and lots of fun!!

Disney does not care if its your Proper B-day since many people travel. I did my Birthday trip to WDW two weeks before my b-day and had no issue. This year I did do DL on my B-day proper though and it was FUN!
