What "theme" is screaming out to be made into a DVC resort?

I'd love to see a Coral Reef type resort. All rooms would have outside entrances with small adjacent patios or balconies - inside the other end would have a big window view into a huge aquarium.

A Pixar-themed resort would be great! Different Pixar films as the theme of each floor of the resort, maybe 4 or 5 floors total. One floor would be called "Monstropolis", one would be called "Toy Story", one would be "The Deep Blue Sea", one would be based on Cars, and maybe one for The Incredibles.

In this Pixar-themed resort would be a restaurant that would serve a character breakfast and a character dinner. The breakfast would have Mike & Sulley from Monsters, Inc. and Woody the Cowboy & Buzz from Toy Story. The dinner would have superheroes from The Incredibles and Lightning McQueen & Mater from Cars, although those would be tough going table to table, maybe the Cars characters would just have to be in the lobby for photos. I don't know how they would incorporate the fish from Finding Nemo but it is Disney and I am sure they would find a way. These characters could also be at the dinner.
I agree with you:banana: my kids would love that  Something like Nickelodeon has right now I have heard people loved it I have never been always staying on Disney property
The pool could be themed like the sea in Finding Nemo. The quick-service restaurant could have themed menu items like "Shark's bite fish sandwich" or something like that. There could also perhaps be a signature restaurant, or even a Dinner Show based on the Pixar films, getting the audience involved as well.

Maybe this would all be too cheesy for a DVC resort, I don't know. I know they have All-Star Movies as a Value resort already but I still think this Pixar idea for a DVC resort would be cute!

I agree with you:banana: my kids would love that  Something like Nickelodeon has right now I have heard people loved it I have never been there always staying on Disney property.:)

What I think would be fun is the idea for a wine country type resort. Think CA napa valley idea. That would be gorgeous and who knows, maybe they could have a vineyard somewhere and bottle an exclusive wine that is featured there. lol and I don't even drink wine.

This is actually a great idea! Disney loves "upscale". Napa is all about the upscale and the good life, not to mention the region is loaded with charm.

I would also jump all over a GF DVC

DVSea

Got two really big boats on their way??

My dream is to retire on a cruise ship - DVSea is something I would take out another mortgage on my house, sell my car, sell off all my stock, cash in my 401k put all my clothes on consignment, sell every misc. random piece of anything in my home and never have cable or eat out again - for!! I would live bare bones to own on a Disney cruise ship. That being said - I hope they don't do it too soon because I need more time to save!!

I think the Black Hills Forest in Triberg, Germany themed resort, would be beautiful. With a House of a 1000 Clocks, and a nice German resturant.

I'd love to see a sleek art deco resort.

See BLT then. It's very sleek and classic art deco with a slightly modern executive feel.

Personally, I'd like to see that old Venetian resort idea resurrected. You know, the one Walt originally envisioned for the sinkhole near TTC?

Marriott's Grande Vista is a lovely Italianatte resort in Orlando. The walkways along the lake were absolutely gorgeous for early morning walks and late nights.

Barring that, I'd go for a French villa type ala the Marriott resort near EuroDisney. Imagine the resort center being like the set of Lights, Motors, Action! with a bistro and pastry shop.

I'm betting we'll see more existing hotel add-ons before a standalone though. GF is more elegant than Poly. It gets my nod.

In my blue sky idea, I'd jump at a chance to stay at a Beast styled enchanted castle.

I think they will do the opposite and try a value dvc, possibly at Pop Century as it has the unfinished section that just seemed to have stopped for unknown reasons when everything else around it continued to complete. Pop would be the ideal location with the vast majority of the infrasructure already in place. My guess is that the "value" option at the AKL is the test for a value DVC resort. Then again I could be completely wrong...

This is an very interesting idea, however how would it be done?
Would points cost the same and just stretch further? Or would the fact that it is next to a value resort make the point cost lower? If the point cost was lower how would that work if the owner wanted to stay at BCV or BLT, or trade in to RCI?
If they were the same price what would make the decision to buy there vs AKV, which has some value rooms avail?

Man I'm getting a headachelol. I am definately thinking about this one WAY too hard!
Seriously though, I think an additional CA timeshare will be announced prior to another one in Florida.

OMG was that unexpected and hilarious! I laughed out loud!!! You know, it may not be that far fetched! I hear Holly, Bridget and Kendra are looking for a new home? :confused3 ;)

To answer the OP's question, I think they could do a cool place around the 7 ancient wonders of the world. I also think a princess resort would be cool, too! Kind of combines a bunch of things around current resorts and the parks, but I would definitely stay at a pricess resort! :goodvibes

Yeah, and Holly is a big Disney fan, when she's not wearing PB bunny shirts she's wearing disney shirts. Not that I watch that show, or anything...

I like the idea of an asian theme, too. But I also like the idea of going someplace else in time as well as location. Like mongol-warlord china right when they're working on the wall. They could buy that theme park, um, splendid china, across the street from AK and turn that into a big DVC...

I like both ideas for an Asian and Italian/Greek/Spanish idea. Either would fit into DVC.

I worry the recent move to RCI was to enable a range of levels within DVC. BostonDisneykid makes a good point with the ability of DVC to take over the unused wing of the Pop. It would take a loss making area ( Disney must be paying taxes on the developed land and there was obviously a cost to build it) and start producing income. While there would have to be reconstruction in order to make it usable for DVC rooms, there would be no cost for the infrastructure so it would make it a cheap build for DVC.

However I think it would be a big step for DVC to go direct to value resorts from deluxe. IMHO it's more likely they would test out the reaction to including a moderate resort first. The most likely of which would be the French Quarter. It has a great theme, it's a relatively small resort, has a high return rate among guests renting room ( providing a good start off market). IMHO it would be relatively easy to provide slightly smaller studio,1+2 bedroom units within the French Quarters set up. It has a cool pool area, bring back Bonfamiles as a full service restaurant, great members bar/lounge ( scat cats). It could be sold at the same price as BLT/AKL but with a lower points per night cost (7pts for standard view +9 for water views in low season) and lower minimum buy in. 100-120 points minimum buy in. That would give about $11k buy in and give 7-10 nights a yr. It would also give a relatively cheap option for weekend stays.

I'm not saying I like the idea, but I think it would open up a whole new market for DVC sales and would be "sold" to the current members with something like " after listening to many members who've asked for a wider range of options in order to make their points work harder and go further we're proud to announce....." .

A french village ala Beauty and the Beast .

that would be perfect:thumbsup2 we would easily pick that one over our current most hoped for DVC at the GF (which apparently will never happen b/c of the soft ground there)

for more "fantasy" theming, a wizard of oz resort would pique my interest also (one could stay in brightly colored, slightly askew munchinland, or in the emerald palace...with a yellow brick road, apple trees, & poppies...lots of poppies :cloud9: ).

What would realy be neat would be a hotel wrapping around the back of World Showcase with each section mirroring the theme of the country it sits behind.

I would definitely like to see that too. I would have preferred it over BLT, personally.

Do most people agree that Disney is probably more likely to add DVC resorts to already existant resorts rather than building all new ones? (Specifically in Florida)

You can add us to THAT wish list ! :goodvibes ......"THE GRAND FLORIDIAN VILLAS" ! :cloud9:

Obivously this is all hypothetical but if it were for me to decide I would answer your questions as follows

Would points cost the same and just stretch further?
Yes but the minimum buy in would be reduced from 160 to 100 or whatever the average weekly point costs were for a 1 brv.

Or would the fact that it is next to a value resort make the point cost lower?
I would keep it the same cost as noted above but would keep it as part of Pop (like BC is to YC, BW is to BWV, WL is WLV, etc). I would keep the point cost the same with less points required per day to stay per categories available which is where the "value" would be seen.

If the point cost was lower how would that work if the owner wanted to stay at BCV or BLT, or trade in to RCI?
For that and other reasons I would keep the point cost the same. Pop owners of a 100 pt contract would need to bank or borrow in order to book a weeks stay at a deluxe resort based on the 100 point buy in (again, totally hypothetic).

If they were the same price what would make the decision to buy there vs AKV, which has some value rooms avail?
The same reasons used today by people to determine where they want to buy today such as the resorts appeal, resort location, buying where you want to stay, 11/7 rule (or maybe even an 11/6 rule for value home resort owners), etc.

i would like to see discovery island turned into pirate themed dvc resort. me would drop you off at a boat dock near the wilderness loge then a pirate ship would pick you up and take you to the resort. also i would like to see the stol port (the old airstrip) turned into aviation museum and resort. where you could see Walt's airplane up close. and a demo of experimental aircraft of the future fly by the resort and since the monorail runs right by the resort put in a monorail station.
