What states are the most scenic to stop in on the way to WDW?

If you are using I-77 to come down, you can cut over to US 52/I-74 towards Winston-Salem, and you'll drive around Mount Airy and by Pilot Mountain.
Both sound familiar? Andy Griffth Show fans will note that Mt. Airy is the inspiration for Mayberry and Mount Pliot is what it was called on the show. Link to Pilot Moutain State Park: http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pimo/main.php

You can then cut through NC to I-95. Best advice is NOT to take I-40 from Winston-Salem to Raleigh however...the traffic is HORRENDUS. Follow US 52 through Winston...then take US 64 across...where you can check out Jordan Lake: http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/jord/main.php
Then hook up with I-40 in Raleigh and head to I-95.

I for one want to someday make the trip from here to WDW by way of the OLD ROADS (before the interstates), allowing three days to take US 17 all the way down...from here that includes New Bern (NC's first state capital), Wilmington, Charleston, and Savannah.

And a side trip into Savannah is SO EASY by way of I-16, 15 minutes off I-95.

We were on a side trip in 03 and took Route 60 in WV from Charleston to Clintonville, that was the most scenic road I have EVER been on. The weather was rainy and the clouds were low. The road is very curvy and a good deal of it was 25mph with switchbacks and steep grades. We were glad the trailer was new and had good brakes. That side trip was one of the reasons we try to find time to get off the Interstates.

I'll definately be stopping in WV or V now!! Those places look spectacular, thanks for the links and suggestions :) If you're pulling your TT, do you stop at a hotel for a night or at a rest stop to catch some zzzz's?

Another great question!! I was going to ask the same thing :).

I need to look that up! I live in the New River Valley and have never heard of that bridge! Of course, it is NRV Virginia, where I call home, not WV. It sounds great, I need to go check it out!

You really should go check it out, Pixie. I suggest Bridge Day because I really have never seen anything that crazy before in my lifetime. There are a couple of cute little towns in that area like Oak Hill. The part that gets me is that person after person lines up on the edge of the bridge and then they just jump off, holding a little parachute in their hands. It's insane.

As far as the route, I guess I'm really thrown off because we live in the Eastern Panhandle so we take I-95 all the way down. It's funny, I live in the same state but it takes me 5 hours to get to that bridge.

I've been to the NRV Gorge bridge and its beautiful. If your up for an adventure you can also go white water rafting under the bridge. My friend went I watched his video it looked like alot of fun.
