What songs do you have on your IPod that you think nobody else has?

I don't know if you got their stuff via online download or ripped from an actual CD - if you have the discs, you'll the the distribution company as "Real World" - this is Peter's private label. It is used primarily for international musicians that Peter has discovered and wants to get their music more widely distributed. A lot of the recording is done at his own home where he has an elaborate recording studio.

If you can't tell by now - I'm a Peter Gabriel fanatic.

Yeah, I have the CD (love the song with Robert Plant on it, too). Didn't really notice that it was a project of Peter Gabriel's, though. Cool!

Yeah, the Plant cut is also excellent.

Okay, last bit of trivia on the Afro-Celt - Peter Gabriel connection.

If you listen to Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live CD (from - of course - the Secret World tour he did in the early 90's) the song "Shaking the Tree" is on the disc. You hear Peter say during the middle of the song (to introduce some of the musicians getting solos), "Mr. Tony Levin... shaking his tree" - for his Bass player - and then for the drummer, "Mr. Manu Katche... shaking two trees". Manu Katche is/was one of the percussionists for Afro-Celt Soundsystem, and was with the group when I saw them in Montreal.

When Peter Gabriel tours (sadly, all too infrequently), there are a number of times when international musicians he has discovered in his travels go on tour with him - either as back-up musicians or special guests. On his last world tour "Growing Up Live" - the Blind Boys of Alabama toured with him, and at the show I saw in Toronto they were both the opening act and guests on one of the songs.

Okay - that's enough OT stuff - back to the original thread... ;)

Here are a few, not exactly rare, but not mentioned already...

Salt in My Tears - Martin Briley
Hot Child in the City - Nick Gilder
Rumours in the Air - Night Ranger
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider
Perfect Way - Scritti Politti

Got it, love it! And every time I hear it, I want to watch Vision Quest!!! Haven't heard Perfect Way in ages... that's going on the list of songs to add to my IPod!

I have weird songs but maybe nothing that nobody else has..

lets see
*The FUN Song from Spongebob
*The Isrealites by Desmond Dekker and the Aces
*some Irish Rovers stuff (even I wonder why I have some of that I think it is a childhood memory thing)
*Most Of All BJ Thomas
*Saturday Night Bay City Rollers
*Chantilly Lace (Big Bopper)
* Way to much Hokey Elvis Movie music to admit but I assume there are plenty of Elvis freaks who have it all on theirs
* Star Baby -The Guess WHo
* All my Jim Croce CD's so I'd assume some less known
stuff isn't on many
*Lady Godiva (Peter and Gordon)
actually I have lots of weird one hit wonder stuff so I guess I'll stop now

oh I know I can by 100 % sure NOBODY else has the Christmas CD my daughters guitar teacher made of her 3 students ...unless one of the other 2 moms is on here... and I have lots of Local Omaha area bands on mine so those might not be on anyone else on the DIS

When I was younger (okay, MUCH younger :P), my dad had an 8-track player in his car. One of the cassettes (is that what they were called?) was a mix of some really good songs that I haven't heard in eons... My Boyfriend's Back, I Saw Linda Yesterday, Just Walk Away Renee, Mendicino and others. Chantilly Lace was also one of the songs and my little sister (who is now 27 years old!) was just a little girl... about a year and a half old. When that "Hello, Baby!" came on she would get SO excited and kick her feet and clap. Once she started talking, she would say "Hello, Ba-beeeee!" over and over again. Thanks for that memory :) I might have to search for some of those songs from that mix...

Anyone have the Opera-funk combo?

Not that particular combo, but I do have an 80s/ gospel /old whiskey drinkin' country mix. ;)

I was cracking myself right up the other day when I was running - these songs came up on my shuffle:

Brass Monkey - Beastie Boys
Anybody Wanna Pray - Cece Winans
Wasted Days & Wasted Nights - Freddy Fender
Your Place or Mine - Gary Stewart
Lord I Lift Your Name on High - Go Fish
Rock - a - hula - Elvis (lots of him, obviously)
Whip It - Devo
We're All in This Together - HSM
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice (YES I said it, Vanilla Ice)

Yeah, I don't have especially weird taste, but 90% of the music I like was recorded a loooooong time ago.

On my latest running playlist I also have songs from Wicked & Mamma Mia, plus Pat Green, Quiet Riot, Third Day, Red Stegall, Salt N Pepa, Willie Nelson and Def Leppard.

My DD & DGD bought me an Ipod for Christmas last year. DGD loaded lots of songs on it for me & our computer is full of music for 4 ipods---mine, DD, DGD & DGS.

I've got Lee Greenwood's GOD BLESS THE USA as well as Elvis & Lisa Marie's IN THE GHETTO. DGD loaded quite a few John Denver songs as well as the BeeGees--haven't seen them mentioned yet. I had to have COME SAIL AWAY (Styx?) plus FAITHFULLY (Journey?) as well as a few Barbra Streisand songs & few by Celine Dion. There's others too although I can't think of exact titles/singers right now.

I'm willing to bet I might be the only one who's got Donny Osmond's SOLDIER OF LOVE though...

Quite a mix for this old Grandma. Now if I could just keep the earpieces in my ears I'd be a happy camper! Thinking of taping them in place!

I've got "Soldier of Love". Love Donny Osmond! I also have Puppy Love, Sweet and Innocent, and other early stuff.
Robin M.

Ahhhh Styx. One of my favorite bands!

I gave up on the earbuds. I use regular headphones.

I have a ton of Italian songs. There was a CD called Mob Hits. It has a lot of Dean Martin and Louis Prima. There is another singer who does funny italian songs. His name is Lou Monte and he does a song called 'Who stole my Provolone' and another called 'Shut up you face'. I would be shocked if anyone else has these songs!!

Everything Rob Thomas ever sang.

Because everything Rob Thomas ever wrote wouldn't fit on one IPod.

Just Another Story About Skeeter Thompson - Late! (this is the pseudonym Dave Grohl--now of the Foo Fighters--used when he released his 1st demo album...I actually have the whole album, but this was the most interesting song title ;) )

Pure - Jackson United
Death & Resurrection Show - Killing Joke

Anybody else have "That Butt Thing" by Horace Trahan?

I'm mostly a rock n roll girl but my DDIL turned me onto this.

Penny

QUOTE]

Sorry to disappoint, but I've got that.

I'm actually surprised at a lot of what people are listing thinking they are the only ones that have. I guess because my high school and college years were the 80's I have a lot of what's been listed from that era. And I checked iTunes thinking I might be able to collect on the $5 bet that no one had 140 Monkees tunes. I'm short on that one. At least on the iPod.

Lets see, how about

The Riddle Nik Kershaw
Funky Town Pseudo Echo
King of Emotion Big Country
Wherever I lay my Hat Paul Young

plenty of others, but I'll leave it at that

I have alot of the songs mentioned by past posters, I also have quite a few others I have not seen mentioned yet.

Rex Smith - You Take My Breath Away (yes, I have the movie Sooner or Later too)
Shaun Cassidy - That's Rock 'N Roll and Da Do Ron Ron
Leo Sayer - You Make Me Feel Like Dancin' and When I need You
Dave Loggins - Please Come To Boston
Ray Stevens -The Streak
Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods -Billy Don't Be A Hero
Jim Stafford - Spider and Snakes
Coven - One Tin Soldier
Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun
Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billy Joe
Kenny Rogers - Coward of the County
Sheena Easton - Morning Train , Modern Girl, Almost Over You and For Your Eyes Only
Andy Gibb - I Just Want To Be Your Everything

I have these, for what it's worth. I actually have all of Andy Gibb's Greatest Hits on it, though that's not usually information I share freely with others.

I forgot to mention Xanadu by Olivia Newton John and ELO!!

Oh, and Big Strong Man by the Wolfe Tones, as well as A Nation Once Again (though I have no doubt at least somebody's got the latter). Love both of those songs. :goodvibes

DH has the Slade song on his Ipod. (so no, not that very rare)

Some unique songs by popular bands:

Romeo and Juliet Dire Straits
Hot Patootie - Meatloaf (Rocky Horror)

Just about everything Johnny Lang has done

Lots more...
When I saw The Badlees, I knew you were from central PA. And Jonny Lang is another of my favorites. Somehow I lost his last 2 cd's and had to download them the other day.

Do you know that Johnny Lang is playing at the "Eat to the Beat" concerts during Food & Wine Festival? That's a show I'm not going to be missing!
I just saw that the other day. I went looking to see when he will be on tour around here(unfortunately, not anytime soon) and saw his dates for Epcot. I am totally jealous!! A few years back(2006, I think), he was performing at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, one day before we arrived at WDW. I tried to change our dates and flights to get in a day early to see him, but wasn't able to. I did get to see him play at the Bethlehem Musikfest back in 2002. What an amazing performer! You will not be disappointed!
