What Snakes Have You seen?

In the thirteen years we have gone to Disney World, I have seen snakes twice. The first time we were leaving the Magic Kingdom and park hopping over to Epcot via the monorail and a black snake slithered in front of us going across the walkway.

The second time was at Typhoon Lagoon in the Lazy River. I was bobbing around, extremely happy, when some boys screamed out that there was a snake in the water. I thought, sure there is, but when I looked around a snake was sure 'nuff there, swimming right past me. I had a couple of heart attacks, but was fine later on in the evening after a couple of Frozen Pina Colladas.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Now I will be walking around the Poly waiting for a snake to get me. I hate snakes worse than spiders. But on a good note we were in Hilton Head and Inever saw a snake or a spider. So I hope my no snake or spider karma will follow me to WDW.

funny thing very first vacation and me and sis and my 7 yr old where staying at pop century the last night there we decide to take a walk along legendary lake and get photos under our birth yrs those signs are neat so we get to the end of the sidewalk and im making jokes about gators sis gets scared and says lets walk thru the parking lot where its safe so im taping everything for back home folks when i look down my sis and son are close to stepiing on a huge snake in the parking lot so i yell snake and they take off running. My son who has never seen a snake before starts hystericallty crying saying disneyworld is a happy place its supposed to be safe mommy i dont like it here lets go home i got it all on tape all the while trying to tell him its the wild and its okay but hes insisting disney is suppose to be a safe place so all the way back to our room hes in the middle of the sidewalk and for the rest of the trip wont go near the parking lot or the bushes. Now that i think back on it dont know what kind of snake it was but it was curled up fat and tanbrown color to it i think it was dead as they almost stepped on it and it did not move but the memories still live with my son who says next time we go we are not going out at night LOL its funny now but when it happened man you could her him and my sister screaming from the food court i bet.

I wonder if snakes are more common during the rainy season, or anytime after a rain. The reason I say that is that a few years ago, when DH was playing golf at LBV, they had a "Snake Alert" posted at the pro shop before he went out (and he wonders why I don't golf?!). The CMs said that there had been so much rain (it had rained almost non-stop for about 4 days) that the snakes holes were flooded. As a result, the snakes were unable to go below ground and were much more commonly "out and about". Fortunately, DH didn't see any snakes out that day.

We live in eastern NC and after a hurricane or very heavy rains that last over a few days we certainly do see alot more snacks. 2 years ago we had 2 copperheads, a kingsnake and a couple black snacks...yuck!

As for seeing them in Disney...only been once so far in Dec and we didn't see any thank goodness...!

Ah! This is a bit alarming - you don't see much in the way of venomous snakes, spiders, insects, etc in the UK (just politicians, estate agents and lawyers :rotfl: )

I assume these things are more likely to run/slither away from people than attack?
:guilty:

Which ones were you referring too about runnig/slithering away? The Politicians, estate agents and lawyers? Or the snakes, spiders and insects.? :teeth:

Never thought of snakes before.....Thanks  .

Well now I know I should prepare my DD 9 for them. She loves the crocodile hunter and thinks it's great fun to bring Mom a snake or two. Of course we only have garder snakes around here. Mind you she has them caught in two seconds flat (she doesn't want them to get run over so she'll catch them and relocate them). I can see her eyes light up with four foot long snake :confused3 .

Why can't she scream like other girls.

LOL :rotfl: :lmao:

In my experience politicians, estate agents and lawyers slither towards you, not away :teeth: :teeth:

tsk. tsk. This is a Disney forum! All lawyers are not like that--at least I am not! princess: Let's keep the name calling to a minimum--unless we are talking about rude tour groups! JK!

Leaving for the Poly in 3 days! :cheer2:

My only snake expereinence was a snake in the Lazy river in TL in 1990. Although today I met up with a 14" gardner snake in the open field :scared1: :scared1: needless to say we turned around and went home!

o.k I am see I am going to have to take Zanax (sp?) every day while I am on the lookout for a snake to come out and bite me!!! :scared:  :crazy2:

I've been to WDW 14 times. Went 7/7 -7/17 this year and saw snakes for the 1st time ever. This was my first summer trip. Saw one on a bridge over the lazy river at typhoon lagoon, and one wrapped around my poorly hit golf ball in the schrubs at Fantasia Gardens!

Sorry Bamabelle. No offence intended - just playing around with stereotypes. In fact my son intends to take up law as a career.

Have a really good vacation now! :sunny:

I don't know what kind of snakes they have been, but this year we've made 3 trips to WDW, January, May and June. We saw a snake at BCV, when we were on the path to the parking lot in May, and in June we saw one under the bridge on the walkway to EPCOT.

We've seen them before, over a period of 30 years, but these have been the closest together sightings. We're heading to VWL soon, that would be where I would expect to see the most, and no, I'm not thrilled about that.

Ok picture this... it was Sep 11,2001 and they just closed the parks (attacks) and we were only allowed to go back to our resorts. We were on the 3rd floor on the BC , get off the elevator and there was a black snake in the hallway. We got passed it to our room and called the front desk. We kept watching it until it went under someones door. I was banging on the door to make sure no one was in there. The animal guy came up and we told him it where it was and he got it!!! Can you imagine coming back to your room and finding a snake in your luggage?????? ahhhhgggg :scared1:

Alright I am seriously thinking of switching to the CR everything is in one bldg. hopefully no chance of coming to my room to find a snake in the hallway and room. Unless someone tells me they have seen them there too!!!!!

Why the heck are snakes hanging around in December?!!! Aren't those boys supposed to be hibernating? I look FORWARD to December since they aren't supposed to be around. I'm staying at POFQ Dec. 23-27. Has anybody seen any around that time of the year? I have NEVER seen any and this is going to be my 6th visit to WDW. I've been twice in May, once in July and this will make my second December visit. I'm glad I didn't see any in Dec. 2004 as I was down there as a single female who is squeamish when it comes to snakes and had a room on the ground floor near some bushes at Pop Century. It was kinda cold but I can't wrap my mind around snakes in December especially since I live in South Carolina and don't see any during that month. Our weather is similar to Florida's.

I rolled over a black snake with a stroller, seemed like a crack in the sidewalk, and then stepped on it in the center of it's body. It swung around and hit it's head on the back of my leg. Thats when I realized it wasn't a crack. We both pee'd a little and I made a scene. My wife called me the "Crock Hunter" the rest of the vacation. That got old quick! I HATE SNAKES... :sad2:

Based on that new Samual L Jackson movie coming out, I'm actually now more worried about "Snakes on a Plane!" on the trip down there than I am about seeing any around WDW :teeth:
