What Snakes Have You seen?

So, uh are these snakes poisonous or just plain ol' snakes?

Some may be poisonous and some may not. The most common poisonous snakes in the south, i.e. Florida, are rattle snakes, copperhead, and cotton mouths. One thing to understand is that snakes prey on other wildlife. So..........when you see those cute little bunnies around the hotel or resort, just remember, they could be breakfast. Don't mean to scare anyone, but that's just the way things in the wild work.

We saw one being bagged up in MK. It was in the brook by the castle on the left hand side. It was black and long!

I'm no snake expert, but here's what I found out about the ones I saw:

Snake at ASMo was a long, black snake, which a CM said was harmless - but I still didn't go hanging out with it. ;)

Snake at ASMu was a big, fat, brownish-gold snake. I did NOT stick around to find out the disposition of that one. We got out of there! ;)

Snake at BB was also a long, black one, looked like the one at ASMo. I was so freaked out from almost stepping on him, I was just relieved when he slithered into the drink. But, I stayed OUT of the lazy river for the rest of the day. :teeth:

Oh, I forgot one! There was a RUMOUR about a snake being spotted in the lazy river at TL while I was floating in there. I never saw it myself - but I did keep my eyes open! ;)

I saw a snake once at the bus stop at BCV. It was being very active. The CM who came out to "dispose" of it (put it in the grass) said it was just trying to get back to the water. My friend saw a snake at the Poly. It was actually climbing (slithering) up the stairs to the pool slide. Now, that would have freaked me out!

I have seen a snake in the lazy river at BB twice.

Snake on the sidewalk at BB once near the kiddie area

Snake on the steps going to the slides at BB

Snake on the fence near BCV

Snake on a bench at AK

Snake in the water at the end of Splash Mountain (acutally my 3 year old pointed it out)

Snake in the pool at CSR

I HATE snakes. One of the snakes in the lazy river swam right past me. I screamed, jumped out of the tube and didn't step foot in the water again that day. My dh died laughing because he has never seen me move that fast.

SNAKES, SNAKES EVERYWHERE? We've been there 7 times and never seen a one! although I can't say we were actually looking for them! :rotfl2: I have always loved snakes and know enough about them to stay away from them if I have a choice :teeth:. I Try VERY HARD never to corner a snake, the get p....d off fairly quick...especially Cotton mouths! :rolleyes1

Snake in the parking lot at ASMo. Snake on the stairwell at ASMu. Almost STEPPED on a snake at Blizzard Beach - but it slithered into the lazy river just before my foot touched it.

That must of been the one I picked out of the lazy river. We were with our kids and they were in tubes and I was walking along side of them picking up sticks and throwing them out and ONE wasn't a stick. I threw that sucker so far and fast while screaming. I'm sure it was quite comical to watch. It totally freaked me out to pick up a snake like that and not realize it. It was small and blackish brown.....like a stick. :rotfl: Just hope I didn't throw it at or on anyone. :rolleyes1

My DH and DS saw what my husband said was a water moccasin while riding one of the boats at the Grand Floridian. My DH is also petrified of snakes, alligators, and spiders so he was not happy at all.

This is all very creepy to me because we were floating around the lazy river in BB one Spring day and I said to my husband wow Disney is good look how real that snake looks on the wall and he was looking and turned to me with this look on his face like uh oh and said no that's a real one. I jumped off that tube and ran to get out when it slithered into the water. It was gray and yellow and I was shaking and making weird noises and jumping up and down getting more and more grossed out, making noises like when you run your finger over your lips and go Bbbbbbbbb. I NEVER go in now and totally relax. I'm always snake watching just in case.

A coule of weeks ago, we saw a snake on the walkway from the BC to the BCVs. Later that week we saw one of those SIDEWIDERS near the entrance of our villa at OKW. Saw LOTS of snake food like frogs and little lizards, too. OH and a gator in the canal at the BCVS.

We have seen them at WL, near the lake. CSR near the lake. BW near the lake and BC on the island near the lazy river of SAB. The lifeguards had everyone get out of the pool while they tried to catch it.

The ones I thought I would be concerened about were at the Poly. Sorry but you should watch. One was caught in the door to the outside of our building and I really thought it was dead. When I opened the door to go out it slithered away. I have yet to hear anything about anyone being bit but after that one when I would go to the quiet pool at night I would check the pool and the ground where my towels were.

Um, is there a difference in activity level of the snakes depending on the time of year, say early December... I dislike them intensely, and this troubles me. I should know better, but I guess I somehow thought that Disney could actually make them go away..

I went from looking for hidden Mickeys to looking for snakes...
...I really hope I see more hidden Mickeys!!!

I truly would not worry about the snakes. They are way more scared of you than you are of them. They will try to get away from you. I personally have never seen one in the parks or outside of the parks for that matter. My husband saw one on their turf when he was in a boat on the water. It sounds like most sightings have been around the water. Also remember there are snakes living everywhere and how often do we see them around our house/town? Please don't allow anything or anyone to hinder your fun while on vacation.

O.K. Now I am very very very nervous  I can not tell you how scared I am of snakes! We will be staying at the Poly and now after reading that Post about the snake in the room at the POLY I want to cry. Not only do I have a fear of snakes but now I will be worried the whole time that my disabled daughter will be bit by one. I can see a lot of fighting between me and my hubby over this I will make him check everywhere now before we walk or sit down!!! WHY WHY WHY can't they be contained into an area with out people :sad1:

It's really O.K.! just don't go picking up any "sticks"! :rotfl2: Sorry, I couldn't resist! :teeth: Honestly, I've NEVER seen any snakes during the times we've been there....you may never see one either! just use common sense and leave them alone if you see one. Yo Ho! pirate:
