What Snakes Have You seen?

Snakes?

Didn't even think about them whatsover until now - Thanx Peeps.

Er, Whatabout spiders? Could we be encountered with them as well?

I guess I better bring an extra two dozen boxer-shorts for this holiday then....

I am frightened beyond belief of snakes.. cannot see them on tv, movies, toys, I have problems with the fake ones on the rides.. Now I am really scared. I am not sure I want to go anymore.

I am hoping there won't be as many out in November :(

Jackie

i've never seen any snakes that i can remember, but i did see an armadillo at fort wilderness and a tree frog (the cute little bright green ones with the sticky bobble fingers) at dixie landings.

I've never seen any snakes at WDW outside of where they are supposed to be--like in AK, locked away from me! ;) But....I do have a scary snake story! A few years back, I was on the floor playing Nintendo (and when I say Nintendo, I mean the original one!) and when I paused the game to reach for my water, I looked over, and literally six inches away against the wall, was a 6 foot long black snake! I, of course, was scared to death, and jumped up screaming for my dad. He eventually got it out of the house with a cane and a golf club, and killed it by hitting it with the golf club. We figured out eventually that it probably got into the house through an AC vent. I've never seen any snakes in the house since then, but that has made me scared to death of snakes for life!

We usually never see snakes at WDW but this year at POR we saw about 5 or 6.

Was quite interesting how many people were scared of them - we were more facinated than scared - being from the UK we dont particularly have wild snakes!

I wonder why all of a sudden people are seeing more and more snakes??? :confused3 I have been going to WDW and have never seen any and I hope to keep it that way

I'm sorry I read this. I'm shocked.
I leave for CBR 27th this month and I had better not see one in my room.
Do the snakes come out at night? Is everyone comfortable walking around the resort after dark?
CBR is a large resort... long walk to your room - in the dark...

We have been going to WDW for a very long time and have been to most of the areas discussed in this thread. I haven't seen a snake EVER!

Notwithstanding my experience, sure it is possible to see a snake in Florida. It is even possible to see a snake at WDW. Some of the other posters have described seeing snakes at WDW. How is their experience relevant to your upcoming visit? I submit it isn't.

What do you do if you see a snake? First, don't panic. Second, don't panic. Third, don't panic. Watch it try to get away from you as fast as it can.

Have all of your questions been answered? :cool1:

Walk around at night the same as you walk around in the day you are just alikeley to encounter a snake in the day as you are at night I feel very comfortable walking around Disney or anyplace in Florida even the ids walking on thier own is fine by me snakes are not to be scared of in general if you leave them alone they leave you alone.

Yes you will see spiders also they are natural to the area and many different species just like the snakes you will also see wasps and bees and lizzards to it is Florida afterall and they are all natural critters for that area.

I have a great PDF file with all of the snakes that live in Florida. Just trying to find a way to convert it to an image so I can post it. There are only 6 snakes that live in FL that are dangerous. Of those, 2 live mostly in south Florida, and one is rarely seen south of the Panhandle. The other 3 all prefer quiet areas with dense vegitation. And also since 2 of those 3 are rattlesnakes, they are pretty easy to spot if you should happen upon one.

The other 12 snake species that live in FL are pretty spread out as well. So the chances are if you do see a snake, it's most likely not dangerous. I'd still stay away, but they are nothing to be afriad of.

Here are 3 that live around WDW that are not dangerous, but very pretty!

Here's a red rat snake.

Here's an indigo snake.

And here's a scarlet kingsnake.

The scarlet kingsnake does look like this venomous snake that lives in South Florida, the coral snake..

But as they say, "Red touch yellow, deadly fellow!"

Remind me never to open this thread again! We are going to Disney for vacation, to relax and have fun. Now I am going to be freaking out looking for snakes. I hate hate hate snakes and spiders so please no one do a spider thread cause I know I'll be peeking in on it too!

Maybe we'll have to change the Hidden Mickey game to the Hidden Snake game. :teeth:

OMGosh! Like some of you, I cannot believe that I opened this thread. I am TERRIFIED of snakes. Like my Dad says, "The only good snake is a dead snake." We have our very first trip to WDW coming up next month and now I am scared! We are staying at ASMo, and I know all thoe rooms have exterior entrances. I am sure that my husband will be thoroughly checking the room before I enter. Oh my, I don't know how I am even going to sleep once I get there.
I really am trying to be logical about this and know which ones are dangerous and which ones aren't but it terrifies me to even look at one. I know someone previously posted that if you have a close encounter with one to remain calm, but PLEASE tell me how I could possbily remain calm when I am terrified of something so much. :sad2: :scared1: :sad1: :scared: :faint:
I was really looking forward to possibly visiting one of the water parks, but since reading all these posts about all the sightings there, I don't know if I can now.

Saw one on a trip in June....we were walking around the WS at Epcot and just managed to grab a good spot in Japan for Illuminations. Sat on one of the stone benches when a young man very kindly told me I had a snake at my feet!

Knowing my Mum hates them I turned and told her to move, just do it, don't ask me why - just move! She then turned to see it run past my foot along the rail and she went mad! It slipped along some bags and cleared the peeps all waiting for the show and they headed back into the bushes! :rotfl:

Now my Mum walks right in the middle of the pathway the whole way round WS!

I don't know why but I have been glued to every page of this darn thread! I have been to WDW many times and never have seen a snake. I've seen the cute little bunnies but never a snake. Of course I wasn't looking for one either! I am one of the folks that thought that WDW cleared the resort of all the creatures that creep me out. I don't know what I was thinking! Livin' in a disney dream world! Isn't there a guy who sprays for snakes?

I am going in 7 weeks and you can be sure my eyes will be on the ground near the bushes! Oh and and now I am having second thoughts about the Lazy River in either BB or TL....That seems to be the hot spot for the sightings listed here... :scared1:
