What should we expect with our first stay?

My Wife Mary and I purchased our DVC membership to AKV and just can't wait for our first experience. Our first visit home is in Dec and we know that Disney has all kinds of magic to share what are some of the perks that they don't tell you about? Thanks Jon

Welcome Home!

I hope you are not disappointed but I can't think of any "untold perks" in a material sense. No arrival gifts or anything like that. What I can think of is having a more "laid back" experience. If you are in a 1 bedroom or larger, it's great feeling that you are in more of a "home" than a hotel room. My mom used to call it "our apartment". When you go more often, you don't feel rushed to get everything in. On my last trip in December, we didn't go to Animal Kingdom because it was pouring down raining on the day we planned. Didn't really care, I was there in June and will be there again this year.

Maybe your guide will call or leave a message to welcome you home, but our guide doesn't usually do that. There really aren't any special things...you can go to the Welcome Home Wednesdays that they have...you may be there for a Holiday Mixer...these events would be free and you would get some beverages and a token gift. I've been to a party once when SSR was opened, again some little tokens, some treats, like ice cream.

I feel special when I'm at any of my DVC homes, because I love being there. The CM's are usually very very nice, they smile and say Welcome Home. You may get some special pixie dust, but really, I wouldn't go expecting SPECIAL treatment because you are DVC. You may be disappointed.

Thanks & Wow you all are making me feel at home already. I just know I had seen some gift baskets In some pics on other sites. I Was not sure where they came from. This board is cool I have been on this site looking for a while now just never registed. I have been talking with Jim McCoy at DVC since I was about 23 and now(31) I have a family and could not think of a better way to share Disney World with my Wife and Son.

you can order those thru the disney florist.

dvc only gave one away to the first dvc member to check in at AKV.

not sure they did that for BLT?

There won't be gifts, but you can go on the DVC Web site to check out the discounts and other perks. For us, being able to go often; taking our time, knowing we'll be back; being as comfortable in our home resorts as in a family cottage; those are all gifts from DVC.

I couldn't agree with you more. One thing that us DVCers do - thanks to wdwstar and his magical elves is a Christmas Tree Swap. A DVC member donates a small tree and it is passed from guest to guest - then we throw in some booty for the shipping costs to be sure it get home saftely. It's a wonderful experience and great to come back to you villa and turn on a tree.

If you are staying at AKV, make sure to spend time taking advantage of the special activities - like night vision animal viewing, cultural representative talks.
There is not anything DVC-member specific - but there are plenty of cool activities at the DVC/deluxe resorts that most people miss out on because they are doing commando park touring.
