I'm wracking my brain and still stumped... I'd like to get DS's kindergarten teacher something for end of school as a thank you gift. But what??

I need some suggestions. When DS went to preschool, we gave his teacher some chocolates, but this year, I want to give his teacher something that'll last.

I had a mickey head bud vase that I got from WDW but DH gave it as a gift when we came back from WDW, so now I have to think of something else.

i work at preschool....last year i got some great picture frames thta i love...dunno if that will help you or not :)

Would you put a picture of your kid with it or not?

I got Mo's teacher a little yankee candle tart burner and 6 tarts. It didn't cost me that much and I got a gift receipt in case she is allergic to strong scents. I think she loved it!!

Mosey loved it because she picked out the burner and the 6 scents.

the one family that gave me a frame put a picture of myself with the kids..but thats a family that i babysit for often..in general, other frames i just got with a note from the child

I would go with something like the candle! My mom is a teacher, and I only have one semester left, and teachers get lots of things like picture frames and figurines, and we don't have enough space to put them in! It's not that we are ungrateful for these kind thoughts and tokens of appreciation, we are more than grateful with just not enough space! So, I would go with the candle which is something that could be used in various places and doesn't need a set home. Just my opinion, but it sounds like a very cute idea.

My DD is graduating on Saturday and she's had a very special teacher that has helped her with her for the last 4 years of high school. I kept saying to DD...Let's make sure we get Ms. C something really nice...she's been soooo good to you! We ended up getting her a plant...a lavender plant. It's really pretty and smells oh so good and she can plant it in her yard and think of DD..year after year. They were so nice, I think I'll go back and get one for myself. And the best part they were only $12.99! Looks like this...but much fuller.

Sorry, but as a teacher, I need to chime in hear. Most teachers are grateful for anything, however, I cannot count how many apple things and teacher plaques I have. also, as far as candles, I have received many of them over the years...it is a very popular gift. Now for me, I don't like them...it is just my personal preference...I don't light candles.

As for suggestions, my number one gift that I have most appreciated has been gift certificates. I have received them from various places including a local mall, restaraunts (Applebee's is cute because of the apple on the envelope), Wal-Mart, and the teachers supply store near by.

For my daughters teachers we usually purchase something from the teacher's store. This year it was puzzles. Even though it is a gift for the classroom, it shows the teacher that you care about them and it is one less thing for them to have to buy!

We gave a gift certificate to the mall. She can buy a Yankee Candle, a book, stuff for her classroom or even fishing lures!

When I taught preschool, my favorite gifts were gift certificates and a set of notecards with my name on them. I also enjoyed a set of really nice paper plates in two sizes and napkins so much that I've given that gift a few times. You can make it really cute by wrapping it in cellaphane and pulling it up and putting ribbons around it. If you want to spend a bit more, add a bookstore or video store gift certificate and write a note about how she deserves some time off from everything this summer -- even dishes -- and to sit back and enjoy a good book or movie.

Since it is the end of the year, maybe something like a spa gift certificate she can use to start her summer off right. Even a little is appreciated. She can have a pedicure or massage. I'm sure she will LOVE it. Something she will remember but not have to dust.

I go with a gift certificate. You just have so much room for other stuff. I think a restaurant gc is good, or even a Craft store, Staples or Office Max, since so many teachers use their own money to buy supplies for their rooms. They usally get discounts at these stores, so that helps the gc go farther, and they can save spending some of their own money. A gc at a local car wash is another good one IMO.

The most sincere Thank You note I ever received from a teacher was for a Barnes & Noble gift certificate. Teacher's really don't need yet another knicknack or book of "thoughts for teachers". I've also given plants. When I have to divide my plants, I always purchase a few pretty pots (in addition to the cheapies) and all it takes is a pretty ribbon to have a gift ready for any occasion and almost any person.

My son is in the 6th grade. This is pretty much the year you stop giving gifts, but he's in a special class (termed as disabled), and his teacher has gone above and beyond the call of duty for him.

(Total bragging on my part, but he's made honor roll every marking period and he's aced his finals, getting a 99 on his math final even (highest in his math class, and he's not in a special math class, a 93 on Language Arts, an 86 on Science and a 89 on Social Studies)....to which, I take a lot of credit, he gets a lot of credit, but so does the wonderful teacher he had)

I got her a yankee Candle in Macintosh Apple (which I admit, is not my favorite) with one of those apple toppers. I hope she likes it. And all the more, I hope she at least likes candles!

I personally have over 40 Yankee candles that I refuse to burn. ROFL So, I guess she might not need to burn them?

In my family of teachers and other beings, we LOVE when Barnes and Noble Gift Cards are given! Mom goes to the store, picks up things for her and her classroom, and we enjoy reading them! We always read the kids books and think of ideas for where they could fit in with her. It sparks some great family conversations and my mom and I love to drop in and spend a few hours there. She even tutors for B&N GiftCards instead of cash!! (this is kind of a long story, but her principal got really strict on usage of the building for money, so she decided she would tutor for free and allow people to give her "gifts.") GO B&N GIFT CARDS!

Also, dining gift cards are nice. Her other favorite gift is Disney Dollars, and anybody who knows her well knows that!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think we're going to go with giving her a plant and a gift certificate.

It's interesting knowing the teachers' point of view on the subject.

My brother is a teacher and I can't tell you how many mugs, boxes of chocolate and candles he gets every year (and he teachs high school!) He has a small apartment so he has no place to store knick knacks, he leaves them at our hose and I put them on the entertainment center for a short time then throw them away....what else can you do with 10-20 teacher mugs a year?? He gets gift cert. which he likes the best and amazingly he also gets bottles of wine and alcohol which I never would have though to buy a teacher...only problem is he doesn't drink LOL....but at least those can be used when we have company! He has kids from all over the place and a lot of time they bring him wine from their part of the world.

Just adding to the list of teachers, or those who live with teachers, saying Gift Certificates! I appreciate any time that a child chooses to give me a gift, but realistically, after 25 years of teaching, can you imagine the number of candles, mugs and knick knacks? Gift certificates or things to use in the classroom are much appreciated ideas. My favorite gift, that I've remembered almost 20 years later, was a large plastic bowl filled with a couple of boxes of microwave popcorn, gift certificate to the local Blockbuster and a cute note about enjoying my summer.

Having said that, I also have to add that sometimes a child gets to know you well, or pays attention to you as a person and can come up with a great, personal gift.
This year I got two gifts that I really loved - a Tinkerbell watch, and a Tinkerbell earring stand. These were families who observed my habits and my likes and really did a nice job taking that into consideration. Those gifts meant a great deal to me, not just because I liked them, but they showed a family that cared about me as a person, not just a teacher.

Here is what we did for the teachers:

Each one got a personalized thank you note signed by DD, a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, and a picture magnet.

We make the magnets ourself. You take a business card magnet (you can buy them at Office Depot or some place similar), then you find a picture of your child from that year and crop it down to the size of the magnet. We have a digital camera so all of our pics are on computer. The magnet is 3.5" x 2", so the pic is usually cropped down to 2x2, then I put "Thanks for a great year" with DD's name and the school year in the remaining space. We have done this for 3 years now and it is ALWaYS a big hit!
