What should I expect with this package?

REcently I ordered the free advertising video for the Disney Vacation Club. Last night, I got phone call from someone just saying they are from "Disney", that they saw I recently ordered the video.

They asked if I watched it and if I had any questions. They offered to send me a package with more information on the whole process. Has anyone had this phone call come to them and gotten this package? What should I be expecting in the mail?

I am pretty interested in purchasing in the Club and am excited to learn more about it.

If and when I do decide to buy, do I or should I schedule a trip to "the World" to take the tour and see the properties?

Any information to what to expect would be great.

thanks.

I assume now you only have the video. The next stage would be the promotional material -- a viewbook showing the properties, providing explanations, point charts, price per point and possible loan rates.

The next stage if you desire is to go to WDW and take the tour unless you trust what you are getting. Note that particular trip is at your own expense and DVC does not provide any special rates at WDW for coming there to take the tour.

If you decided to buy without going to WDW, then you would contact the rep (or the rep may call you) and have them answer any questions to your satisfaction. To buy you just tell the rep how many points you want and the loan period you want and then you will need to send a check for the down payment (20% is Disney's preference although it will go lower). After they receive the check, you then get another package in the mail that contains all the agreements you need to sign and the official DVC offering documents (thick books with all the legalese). You sign and date all the necessary documents (and get some notarized particularly if you are applying for a loan) and return them in a two day delivery envelope that comes with the package and postage is charged to Disney. You actually have until 15 days thereafter to cancel the whole thing and get your money back.A few days after Disney receives yuour signed documents, you get a call saying you are approved and you get your member number. At that point you can actually start making reservations. The closing occurs about a month later and you need not attend. Your deed arrives about 2 months after closing.

The rep does not use high pressure -- the rep's principal activity is to take you through the process and answer any questions.

And definitely read these boards, and feel free to post here if you have any specific questions.

All the members here are quite knowledgeable and will be glad to help.

Our family had stayed at OKW before be bought into the club. We liked it very much and had noticed people taking tours while we were there. When we knew that we would be going often, I called and got the info sent to me. It is very good and it is very honest. Every picture was just as it is. We bought into OKW before we made our next trip. We have added more points several time. I have known people to buy in sight unseen, and I can honestly say I would not hesitate to do it. I did this at VB and have not been sorry. We just took our first trip there and it is as the info says. I would ask for the info and ask lots of questions. There are many members here who can answer all you questions. I think DVC sells itself, you just have to know if it works for you. If you decide to join you can also put the down payment on a credit card. I have a card that gets airline miles and that gave me quite a few miles. I just paid it when it came.

great!!! thanks for all the information. now, i'm just im-patiently waiting for the package to get here. Then, i know I'll be right back here with more questions.

But, thanks for the responses. This board is great!

If you do decide to buy can you stay at any of the home-away-from homes, or just your home resort?

You can stay at any DVC resort,Monte. The catch is that you have an 11 month booking window at your home resort and a 7 monyth booking window at the others.

Translation: You will be able to book your home resort at 11 months. At 7 months you can book any DVC resort - subject to availability. During peak times at popular resorts, there possibly (probably) will not be any availability. So if you dream of the first two weeks of December at VWL for the decorations, or Food and Wine Festival at Epcot while staying at BWVs (or BCVs), or an OKW Grand Villa for Thanksgiving, this should factor into your decision.

You can also use your points to book Disney Cruise Lines or Disney resorts like the Poly or GF. Most people don't think this is the "best use" of points, but the option is there (subject, I believe, to change).
